Chapter 404: Where You Are Is My Home

"Kid, how dare you tell me what to do?"

"If that's how you feel, Elder, no problem. I can take Xia Xue away again, and from then on, have nothing to do with the Xia Family. There are plenty who want to take Wang Family's place; Xia Family isn't the best choice. Without you all, I believe Xia Xue would live more freely."

"Kid, you're being excessive."

"I have the capital to be excessive." Xiao Lin downed his last sip of alcohol in front of Elder Xia: "I hope you reconsider the pros and cons involved here. You are still the elder of Xia Xue and me, and that won't change."

"Xiao, kid, what if I refuse?"

Elder Xia sat up from the tatami, bending one leg, making his whole body lean forward, giving the illusion he might strike.

"Grandfather, what are you doing?" Xia Xue, who had been flipping TV channels, grew increasingly anxious. What were the Xia Family's people like? Seemingly gentlemanly on the outside, but secretly aren't they the same as petty folks?

She was worried not about Xiao Lin being harmed, but about what unreasonable demands the elder might make. As she entered, she happened to see Elder Xia about to grab Xiao Lin's collar, and she jumped in, startled, without even taking off her shoes.

Elder Xia looked at her shoes: "Who let you in? Take them off."

"Sorry, grandfather." Noticing her shoes, Xia Xue quickly took them off and placed them outside the door before entering again: "What do you intend to do to him?"

Xiao Lin tidied his slightly wrinkled clothes and stood before Elder Xia: "Elder, I'm not joking with you. If you wait until I act personally, I suppose the Xia Family will mean nothing to me, right?" He held Xia Xue's hand and placed it on his chest: "Xia Xue is the woman I want to marry this life. The Xia Family prioritizes benefits; why not weigh your family's relationship with me, Xiao Lin?"

"What are you saying?" Xia Xue glared at Xiao Lin, frustrated. She hadn't expected him to be so rude to her grandfather, no wonder he was so angry, like a dragon ready to breathe fire.

"You found quite a man." Unable to respond aptly to Xiao Lin, Elder Xia could only redirect his fury at Xia Xue.

"Grandfather..."

Xiao Lin shielded Xia Xue behind him, signaling with his eyes for her not to speak: "Elder, you seem to have forgotten one thing: Xia Xue is my woman, and only I can reprimand or scold her."

"You..." Elder Xia pointed at Xiao Lin, unable to speak under his commanding stare, struck by the young man's aura. He, barely in his twenties, had such a daunting presence: "Who exactly are you? I ought to know who I'm collaborating with!"

"Thank you, Elder, for fulfilling this. Soon, you will naturally find out."

Seeing her grandfather's softened attitude, Xia Xue curiously sized up Xiao Lin: "How did you manage that?" She asked in a low voice as they walked away from the study. Xia Xue was still nervous, fearing her grandfather's reprimand. After all, entering the study with shoes was a severe offense.

"The terms!" He habitually fiddled with her small hand, toying with her fingertips: "I like your fingers; they don't seem like surgeon's fingers, but they're missing something."

"What's missing?" Xia Xue inspected her fingers nervously, looking them over closely.

"This." At some unknown moment, an exquisite ring appeared in Xiao Lin's hand, adorned with a series of diamonds on its intricate, bending design, crisscrossing lines forming a twinkling cloud river: "Its name is 'Cloud River,' from my mother."

"No, I can't." Xia Xue withdrew her fingers, surprised by Xiao Lin's sudden mention of family matters, something he had never brought up before, leaving her unsure of how to face the situation.

"Watching you wear it helps me not constantly fear you'll run away." Xiao Lin slipped the ring onto Xia Xue's ring finger, gently kissing it.

"Hey, what to do now? It's starting to get restless." Xiao Lin pointed pityingly at a slightly solidified spot, glancing at Xia Xue.

Blushing, Xia Xue quickly pulled him along to the top-floor room: "Isn't this embarrassing, in all these corridors?" She tossed a pillow to Xiao Lin, blushing to her ears; who knows how many people heard the talk, and tomorrow tales of her improper conduct as an illegitimate child might spread all over the Xia Family.

"Trust me; from today on, no one in the Xia Family will dare disrespect you." He pulled over the woman standing foolishly at the bed front. "Ah!" The weight falling into his chest made Xiao Lin cry out involuntarily.

"What happened? Did it hurt?" Xia Xue anxiously tried to get off Xiao Lin, her little hand feeling where he'd been hit: "Let me see."

Watching the woman in his arms unbutton him, Xiao Lin's junior started to stir. He flipped over, pinning her beneath him: "Why do I always crave you endlessly?"

"You're talking nonsense again." She tried to hide her face with a pillow, but Xiao Lin threw it out the window: "That's too bothersome."

"Stop it; this is the Xia Family, not our home." Her actions were under many scrutinizing eyes, especially after Xia Yusheng took over the whole domestic Xia Family business. Those eyes eagerly awaited her making a mistake to catch and report to her grandfather.

"So, dear wife, are you ready to return to our home?" Releasing Xia Xue, Xiao Lin lamented how to resolve his personal physiological problem.

"Hmm!" Xia Xue gazed at the pink ceiling, once desperate to return home, now felt like a foreign hotel, lacking the smell of home.

One hand clasped tightly around another: "Anywhere with you is my home." Xiao Lin laughed silently; his woman was just so adorable and persistent, making him sincerely concerned.

"I know the Xia Family makes life miserable for you, but I can't let you leave here." Xiao Lin didn't want to see Xia Xue's wounded expression, even without looking he knew the conflicted look on her face.

"The Xia Family is also my battlefield, and I need you to fight for me here." Deliberately ignoring his troublesome junior's presence, Xiao Lin turned sideways, his fingers entwined, tightly to the point of pain.

"Is this the issue you're disputing with grandfather?" Knowing Xiao Lin was watching her, Xia Xue turned, showing her back to him, feeling upset in her heart: "I don't want anything from the Xia Family, how can you not understand this?" (To be continued.
