Chapter 1221: Snapping Back To Reality
Earning over a hundred thousand magicoins in such a short time... This profit rate easily outstripped what one could get from even an interplanar war.
Sein had been able to keep the magicoins flowing in steadily because no matter which gambling device he played, he always stuck to a fixed bet of twenty thousand magicoins each time.
With the Faceless Mask giving him a success rate between 60% and 70%, his chances were naturally better than the average gambler's.
More importantly, Sein was not greedy. He would never recklessly throw in everything he had.
Even if the Faceless Mask showed a near ninety percent win rate, he would still hesitate.
That kind of risk-taking just did not fit with Sein's personality. Besides, a ninety percent win rate meant there was still a ten percent chance of failure!
Small bets were fine for fun, but going big could backfire. Besides, Sein had never expected to amass a huge fortune from this place.
Still, despite his efforts to stay rational, by the time he made it from the third floor to the thirty-fourth floor, the value of his chips had already passed 1,170,000 magicoins!
He had earned this amount in just two months inside this casino.
At that rate, his massive debts could be paid off in less than two years!
Time slipped by in a blur.
It was not until Black Oblivion came to find him that Sein finally snapped out of it. He shook his head hard to pull himself together.
There was a huge pile of chips next to him now, but the thrill of gambling had already worn off.
"Mages follow the principle of equivalent exchange as well as the pursuit of truth and balance. It feels illegal to use the Faceless Mask to cheat and rake in magicoins like this..." he thought to himself.
"No wonder not many Rank Four or above Magus World mages are here. What's the point of hoarding all these magicoins if I end up getting too caught up in this..."
Sein stared at the chips in his hand and felt a chill run through him.
Even though he trusted his own self-control, he had no intention of testing it. Making easy money like this was dangerously addictive.
Even he was afraid of losing himself.
He glanced at the other foreign gods nearby and saw they were just as caught up in the thrill as he had been earlier.
If anything, they were even more obsessed and completely hooked.
The scene in front of him reminded Sein of the "gambling laws" he had wondered about when he first arrived in this gambling city.
"Whoa! Sein, you've already made that much?!" Black Oblivion's eyes were practically gleaming with excitement as he leaned in close.
Casinos here did not accept magicoins or other physical collateral, so the simplest way to measure someone's wealth was by how many chips they held.
The amount in Sein's hands was already considered impressive within the first hundred floors of the gambling city.
Very few foreign deities would spend that much, and even among the wealthier foreign gods in the Magus Alliance, most did not carry that many chips.
As for the space above the hundredth floor... a million magicoins' worth of chips was just the ticket to get in. But Sein had no interest in going up there or getting involved with that crowd.
"The last time I came, I barely made a few hundred thousand after more than a year. How did you pull this off, Sein?" Black Oblivion kept pressing.
This guy really had endless energy. After two months of fooling around, he still had the energy to be excited like this.
Sein, on the other hand, was already starting to lose interest in the place. Unless something unexpected came up, he would leave soon.
"It's nothing special. I just got a little luckier than the rest," Sein replied casually.
The restrictions the casino had placed on him were becoming more and more obvious.
When he first played the roulette wheel, the Faceless Mask had shown a win rate of 69.17%.
Now, that same roulette wheel gave him only a 55% chance.
And it was not just the roulette wheel. According to the data analysis from the Faceless Mask, the odds across the whole casino had been adjusted against him.
Sein still had not figured out the exact laws or mechanics behind it.
But if this place could hook even Rank Four and higher beings, it clearly had more going on than it seemed.
At least on the surface, it all looked "fair."
Just as Sein turned to leave, Black Oblivion called out in surprise, "You're not going to check out the floors above the hundredth? The stakes are way higher up there and way more exciting."
"Or maybe you could go to the underground casino. That one's got its own kind of thrill," he added.
Most of Black Oblivion's fortune had been blown on those upper floors last time. Paired with his lustful dragon nature, of course the underground casino was also irresistible to him.
Unfortunately, none of that held any appeal for Sein.
"No, I suggest you don't stay here too long either. Otherwise, White Stella might tear down my divine tower the next time I run into her," Sein said, shooting Black Oblivion a look.
"Damn it! Don't let her find out about this! Otherwise, I might be crushed before your divine tower crumbles," Black Oblivion yelped, clearly rattled.
Shaking his head, Sein had lost all interest in lingering and was making his way toward the exit of this gambling city.
Compared to this massive, glittering gambling city, Sein was far more curious about the central business district of Reyno Star City and the Blackhaven Commercial District.
Just like Black Oblivion had mentioned earlier, Reyno Star City had vast underground zones filled with mechanic-run shops, and that was something Sein actually wanted to explore.
The magicoins he had just won felt a little too hot to hold on to.
Maybe it was the psychological weight of getting something without working for it. Spending the money quickly might help ease that pressure.
After all, using the Faceless Mask like this already bordered on cheating.
Usually, anyone caught cheating would be dealt with harshly by the casino.
Even with his high status as a Magus World mage in the Magus Alliance, Sein had no desire to become an infamous cautionary tale.
Seeing how serious Sein was about leaving, Black Oblivion glanced longingly around the casino one last time before tagging along.
Not like he had much choice—he really did not have much money left.
He could still have a little fun with a few maids or attendants, but he could not afford to splurge like he did last time.
Just as they were nearing the casino entrance, a tall, plump penguin appeared in their path.
This black-and-white giant looked completely ordinary. He radiated no energy fluctuations at all.
It was the first time since Sein obtained the Faceless Mask that he had come across someone it could not analyze at all.
Not even his grandmaster, Feylis, could completely block the mask's probing gaze!
"Leaving so soon? I thought you might stick around a little longer," the penguin said with a chuckle.
