Chapter 775 ( Warning )
"How true do you think it is that there is a way to return to our world?" - Suzu asked for the first time after recovering from her sadness at the mention of Eri.
"Like I said, there is a possibility, the problem is that we don't have that certainty because Ehit is a son of a bitch" - replied Jugo while frowning - "It's obvious that the information Strife gave us is true."
"You mean Ehit's connection to the demons, as well as the reason for our arrival in Tortus?" - Ryutaro asked while frowning - "I guess you're right..."
Suzu squeezed her hand while giving him a look full of concern.
"For the time being, we can only survive and wait for Strife to get all the magics, maybe then we can go back home," Endou interjected as he looked around, "Remember that there is a legend that says that the possessor of the ancient magics can do anything, and if this is true, then it is possible that he can create a way to return."
"How many mazes does he have left to overcome?" - Suzu asked with concern, because honestly she didn't want to be in this dimension anymore. She just wanted to go home to her family and forget everything that had happened, something the other heroes shared, well, all except Endou who was still blaming himself for the death of an innocent girl.
"There's only one left" - replied Endou while closing his eyes, though this wasn't noticeable thanks to the fringe blocking them - "At least that's what Rika told me while I was working as her bodyguard..."
"I still don't understand why you went with her, Endou" - Ryutaro said with a frown - "Did you like her?"
"No, it's not that, it's just that I felt I owed it to Strife-san for helping us so much" - replied Endou honestly - "Besides, she was our leader and the person who helped us survive in this strange world, without her, we wouldn't have been able to have the peaceful lives we have now..."
The heroes looked at each other before nodding weakly, after all, Endou's words were true.
* * *
The heroes' meeting had ended a few minutes ago, during which time they left for their respective jobs, leaving Ryutaro and Suzu alone.
"It's ironic..." - Ryutaro said with a sad expression - "Us, the best friends of the two traitors, in a relationship..."
"Ryutaro-kun..." - Suzu muttered regretfully - "Yeah, you're right..."
"I still can't believe Kouki did this..." - sighed Ryutaro while gritting his teeth - "But no matter how much I think about it, all the evidence points to this, besides, Endou doesn't seem to be the type to lie..."
"I don't want to believe about what I've heard from Eririn either, but..." - sighed Suzu as she bit her lip - "I guess we're just like that..."
"And that's good, I guess" - smiled Ryutaro as he squeezed his girlfriend's hand - "At least we can support each other in this time of grief..."
Suzu was about to say something else, when she heard a murmur.
"Is something wrong, Suzu-chan?" - Ryutaro asked as he looked at his girlfriend.
"I think I heard Eririn's voice" - Suzu replied worriedly as she looked around, only to feel her boyfriend's hand on her shoulder.
"Really?" - Ryutaro asked with a frown - "Then we have to be careful, remember that she's with Kouki kidnapping people, so it's possible that we might be their next victims, and if they really did kill Minami, then I don't think our old friendship is something that will stop them from trying to attack us..."
Suzu gritted her teeth before nodding and trying to ignore the muttering, but it was becoming clearer and clearer. Eri was calling out to her, and for some strange reason she felt she had to go.
"Suzu-chan?" - Ryutaro asked in surprise.
"I'm sorry, but I have to," Suzu said as she gave him a smile and ran to where she felt she had heard her former friend.
Ryutaro gritted his teeth as he struggled with the idea of going to find the others for support, though he quickly dismissed this idea because if he did, he might lose his girlfriend forever, so without further thought he ran after Suzu.
The duo ran through the alleys of the city, until they reached the cemetery.
Ryutaro frowned because this place was Eri Nakamura's playground, but he couldn't just abandon his girlfriend, so he continued to accompany her until they reached a withered tree.
"Honestly, I didn't think you'd come to see me, Suzu-chan..." - Said a voice that the two heroes immediately recognised.
"Eririn..." - Suzu muttered as she looked around, only to notice a small blue flame perched on one of the withered branches - "Is that you?"
"You could say I'm what's left of my original version..." - replied the blue flame with a tone full of sadness and desolation - "Consider it a way of being able to save myself in case of emergencies, which ended up being useless..."
"What happened, Nakamura?" - Ryutaro asked with a frown.
"Sakagami... Uh?" - said the blue flame with boredom - "I'm surprised that you two are together being that Kouki and I..."
"Kouki? Without the 'kun'?" - Suzu asked in surprise.
"I don't think I can still feel love for the person who killed me after everything I did for him" - replied the blue flame sarcastically.
"Kouki killed you?!" - Ryutaro exclaimed in surprise as he felt his breathing stop for a few seconds.
"Yes, and without a second thought" - replied the blue flame sadly - "I guess I chose my beloved wrong, though it's not like I could control my feelings, in fact, I think I'd still do the same even if I could go back in time..."
"Eririn..." - Suzu murmured sadly as she felt tears running down her cheeks.
"You cry for me after all I've done? You're too kind, Suzu-chan..." - The blue flame said as she seemed to lose a bit of her glow - "Anyway, I'd better say what I came to say before my time runs out."
"Run out of time?" - Ryutaro repeated with a frown.
"Yes, this little flame is all that's left of me, because the rest of my soul was absorbed by Kouki's sword" - replied the blue flame while shaking - "It's ironic, I sacrificed everything of me for Kouki, even my humanity, but it seemed like that wasn't enough for him..."
Ryutaro and Suzu fell silent.
"Anyway, I just wanted to warn you to be careful..." - said the blue flame with seriousness in her voice - "Before my soul was devoured, I heard how the sword said that my soul from another dimension was delicious, that's why it's possible that Kouki will go against you..."
Ryutaro and Suzu froze when they heard this as they felt a large amount of sweat run down their backs.
"I guess that would be it..." - Eri Nakamura muttered as she made the blue flame take her form - "I wish you luck, Suzu-chan, maybe my friendship with you was a lie, but at the end of my life, I found that you were the only person who truly supported me, even when I did all these barbarities..."
"Eririn!" - Suzu exclaimed as she watched the flame disappear without a trace. She couldn't hold back anymore and started crying because now she understood that her best friend had passed away.
Ryutaro hugged her while gritting his teeth because with this there were two confirmed deaths of his friends by Kouki, and even though Cloud had done the same to the two traitors, they had earned it after all the atrocities they had committed.
* * * * *
"I see..." - muttered Aiko, or better known as Ai-chan sensei, the teacher of Cloud's class, which had returned to normal after the events inside the sacred temple - ". . ."
"It's not your fault, Aiko sensei" - Endou said as he ducked his head - "If you want to blame someone, you can blame me..."
"No, it's my fault for not being strong enough to stop my students from committing those atrocities, it was my fault for not realising the enormous pressure they were under, it was my fault for not knowing what to do in this world..." - Aiko replied with tears in her eyes, after all, one of her favourite students had died.
Rika always helped her during her school days, and her mature attitude made it seem like she was talking to a woman with years of experience.
Such was the relationship between them, that Aiko saw Rika as the sister she always wished she had - "Rika-chan..."
"I'm sorry, sensei..." - Endou muttered before retreating, because she honestly didn't want to see her teacher break down in tears.
"Rika-chan..." - Aiko muttered as she continued to cry with the loss of her student at the hands of Kouki Amanogawa - "Why.... Why do you have to kill each other, did I do a bad job as a teacher?"
