Chapter 347: From Boredom to Bedlam
Vivian Cross was excited like a kid the night before Christmas. She could sense it the moment that she had taunted Leo.
The murderous intent of his friends had made the hair on the back of her neck stand as if she was on the precipice of death. Each glare had so much power behind it that she knew in a one on one fight, they could wipe the floor with her.
And that was if she was lucky.
Up until now, she had been bored. Bored with her job. Bored with the same types of idiots trying to cause Young Miss Aria trouble.
She was bored with life itself.
Of course she had no interest in killing herself, she was by no means someone who would give up like that.
She just patiently waited for the day that something interesting showed up....and it did.
Today had been eye opening for her on so many levels that she had struggled not to smile.
Not even the copious amounts of alcohol she had consumed could take the edge off of her emotions.
This was something she wanted to do. She could feel it in her bones. Following Leo and his crew now meant she would never be bored again.
Ethan on the other hand was feeling the exact opposite of Vivian. They had both left their well paying job after gathering blackmail on the man they had worked for years.
He was uneasy about following a group of strangers and was even more so annoyed that someone had put a blade against Vivian's throat.
He bared his teeth and was ready to fight with her to get away but he noticed her subtle signal.
Stand down.
He was honestly shocked. Her face may have been fearless but he noticed the droplet of sweat on her forehead. She was afraid?
She was never afraid of anything yet the pretty boy did such a thing? Glancing around at the rest of the group, he realized why.
Unlike Vivian's brute force tactic, he could often detect how dangerous someone was based off their presence.
In the heat of the moment, he had ignored what his senses had told him when he put a gun to Crystal's head. But now, he could sense with the exception of the small girl with pale skin, each one could crush him and Vivian.
"Sis, are we really going to join these....monsters?!" Ethan asked with incredulity in his voice. However the statement caused everyone to frown, even Vivian.
"Who the hell are you calling a monster, asshole?!" Adam seethed with anger. Ethan noticed that from the glint of the light that there was something off about Adam's skin.
"Are those scales....?"
"Yeah. So what?"
Ethan's gaze instantly changed from one of shock and suspicion to one of awe and admiration.
"So cool~!" He shouted, a glitter of excitement seemed to take over him. He was still a young man himself and was still definitely interested in cool transformations like dragons and giants.
Adam was caught off guard by the sudden flip in attitude and the unexpected enthusiasm. The way Ethan looked at him now was one of pure idolization.
He was pretty sure that if he had a tail, it would be wagging like a helicopter right now.
Seeing him like this made Vivian facepalm. Of course he had to act like this and embarrass her.
"Sorry about this. I'm pretty sure the Nuns dropped him on the head multiple times as a baby."
"Nuns?" Lily asked with a perplexed look on her face.
"Oh right. Sorry. This idiot and I were originally from an orphanage. We grew up together,"
"Unfortunately..." Ethan grumbled
"We were pretty much inseperable,"
"I always failed to escape her."
"So the Nuns and Priest decided that since we were so close that we were like brother and sister,"
"I was held against my will.Ugh!"
A heavy punch landed on top of his head and his face smashed into the floor. A vein was throbbing on Vivian's forehead at Ethan's constant interruptions.
"Why do you never learn when to shut the fuck up!" She roared with annoyance. She then proceeded to stomp on Ethan repeatedly in front of everybody much to the shock of everyone but Aria whose gaze had grown distant, she was so embarrassed that she was trying to hide from reality.
Leo looked to his winged comrade and asked "Are they always like this?"
Aria hearing Leo speak to her could only droop her head and sorrowfully remark
"Pretty much...yeah."
Leo nodded his head in understanding. He now understood why Aria had such a mild reaction to the chaos that surrounded him and the others: She was used to it already.
Crystal pinched the bridge of her nose. "I do not know whether to be annoyed or entertained."
Rachel on the other hand was grinning from ear to ear. "I like them. They are fun."
"Fun is not the word I would use," Luna muttered, her eye twitching in irritation. "Loud, reckless, and completely lacking self-awareness might be more accurate."
Lily glanced at her best friend, astounded that Luna of all people would say that. It was literally the pot calling the kettle black.
Ethan, still pinned under Vivian's foot, raised a hand weakly. "I would prefer some help. My bones are on the verge of breaking here.."
Vivian's heel dug in harder. "Oh stop being such a baby."
Greg had no idea what to say to Vivian. Everyone could somehow hear Ethan's bones literally creaking from the amount of force she was using on him yet she was acting as if it was no big deal.
Penny, who had been quietly watching from the back, tilted her head. "So… are they joining us or not? Because I cannot tell if this is a recruitment meeting or a public execution. Besides. Do they even have any skills that will be useful to us?"
Vivian smirked back at Penny as if she had just told her a joke. "I am more than capable. And if I am wrong, you will not have to worry about me slowing you down."
Ethan managed to wiggle an arm free and pointed at himself. "I have skills too, you know."
Vivian stomped down again and Ethan let out a sharp yelp. "Your skills include talking too much and getting into trouble."
Adam's brow furrowed. "So what exactly are you two? Mercenaries? Freelancers? Criminals?"
"Depends on who you ask," Vivian said with a shrug. "We do what we want, for who we want, when we feel like it."
"That sounds like a headache waiting to happen," Luna muttered under her breath.
Rachel clapped her hands together. "Perfect. You will fit right in."
Ethan looked at her as if she had just offered him a golden ticket. "Finally, someone with taste."
Rachel grinned wider while Vivian shot Ethan a glare that promised violence if he spoke again.
Greg glanced at Adam as Ethan and Rachel seemed to be getting along. He then leaned over slightly and whispered, "I give them three days before something explodes."
Adam grunted. "Two days."
Just like everyone in the Chaos Pantheon, they were definitely going to get into trouble.
Or start it.
