Chapter 39: Chapter 39: They Disagree!
[The next day, early morning]
Deep Blue City's daytime was quiet, as usual.
Some residents turned on their TVs, where the morning city news was broadcasting information about the "traitor" Han Zhen, who would be executed today.
Some residents opened their windows, faintly able to see the vaguely built execution platform in the city center overnight.
Others walking on the streets saw black vehicles speeding through, departing from the mayor's residence and heading toward the same location.
More and more people heard the news.
Even in the apocalypse, there was never a shortage of people curious about excitement and gossip.
Quickly, the people of Deep Blue City gathered at the execution platform. There, they saw the rumored traitor.
Han Zhen was bound by special suppressor ropes.
Those people chose the guillotine, the most primitive and violent method of execution, intending to use Han Zhen's head and blood to show Li Shutong.
On the large screens on both sides, scenes of Han Zhen's crimes were being broadcast.
From "killing" the owner of the Breeze Nightclub, to "killing" Zhang Xiaobei, and "killing" Zhao Hu—each scene played, solidifying the evidence of Han Zhen's "treachery".
"Reporting to Lord Mayor, everything is ready."
"As soon as the time arrives, the execution will proceed immediately."
"Hmm." Kang Chuan sat in the latest land cruiser disguised as a car, not appearing immediately.
"The three who escaped yesterday, were they caught?"
"Not yet. They're cunning and likely hiding in that villa. We..."
Kang Chuan waved his hand, not wanting to hear more.
He looked grimly at the execution platform outside, lost in thought.
"Why is he still so calm?"
"What is his trump card?"
No one could answer this question for him.
"Isn't that the SSS-level awakened spirit contractor from before?"
"Oh my god, how did he become a traitor?"
"I heard he bore a grudge after being reassigned to the City Guardians Alliance and killed many people."
"Tsk, people like this are terrifying. Luckily, he's been caught. Our new mayor of Deep Blue City is really capable."
The citizens buzzed with discussion.
Time ticked away, second by second.
The villa remained utterly silent.
This left some of their contingency plans against Li Shutong unused.
"What a pity. It seems Li Shutong really doesn't intend to save him."
"He must've calculated our methods and voluntarily abandoned this newly accepted ninth disciple."
"Truly a shame."
"The time has come, Lord Mayor. It's time to execute the sentence." A subordinate ran over to remind him outside the car.
Kang Chuan finally stepped out of the vehicle.
As soon as he emerged, the citizens of Deep Blue City cheered and surrounded him.
They shouted Kang Chuan's name, cursed the murderous Han Zhen, and celebrated having a good mayor.
Kang Chuan smiled and waved to the crowd, then returned to a serious expression.
He walked to the execution platform, where a microphone had been prepared.
This was the day he formally took office as Deep Blue City's mayor. He chose to execute on this day as a declaration.
"Citizens of Deep Blue City, greetings. I am your new mayor, Kang Chuan."
"Today is a day of both joy and anger."
"We've lost a young talent who should have been an exceptional spirit contractor with boundless potential. But because of personal grievances, he wantonly murdered innocent people. Not only that, but he attempted to collude with the insect race to disturb the peace of Deep Blue City."
"As the mayor, I am deeply disappointed."
"But justice will triumph over evil in the end."
"Any blade raised against the citizens of our Great Xia will be ruthlessly snapped, then turned back upon the enemy."
"I will fulfill my duty as mayor and execute this heinous traitor today. Do you agree?"
Kang Chuan's passionate speech stirred the crowd's fervor.
They chanted Kang Chuan's name, shouting "Agree" like waves, louder and louder.
"I disagree!"
Suddenly, at this moment, an exceptionally abrupt voice rang out.
The crowd parted, creating a path.
At the end of the path, Chen Guangpu walked steadily toward them with a stern face.
Behind him were Xia Youwei and other Qingteng Academy students, marching silently like an army.
Silent power is immense.
Their actions even overshadowed the approving voices.
Many citizens paused their excitement, looking at them with puzzled expressions.
"I am the principal of Qingteng Academy, Chen Guangpu." Leading the way, Chen Guangpu spoke. "I not only represent myself but also the entire Qingteng Academy, and its students. We do not agree with labeling student Han Zhen as a 'traitor'."
His words caused an uproar.
Chen Guangpu was not an unknown figure. As the principal of Qingteng Academy, he had trained generations of spirit contractors.
Among the crowd were some of his former students.
Why would Chen Guangpu stand up for a murderer?
Kang Chuan's eyes narrowed slightly. Chen Guangpu's sensitive identity made it inappropriate to publicly offend him in such a setting.
Kang Chuan gave a subtle gesture. His subordinates understood immediately and pressed the button to lower the electronic guillotine.
The next moment, the sharp blade was about to sever Han Zhen's neck entirely.
Suddenly, it stopped.
Like a machine freezing, it halted there.
"Sorry, I disagree too."
A dignified and beautiful woman appeared above.
Under her feet was a newly developed, highly expensive, and priceless single-person aircraft from CanShang Technology.
Shang Si Ting.
She snapped her fingers, and not only did the guillotine stop working, but even the guards' electronic weapons and standby vehicles were all forcibly shut down.
This was the weight of CanShang Technology.
Shang Si Ting smirked slightly and looked at Han Zhen on the execution platform. "I told you, you're mine. You can't escape."
Her close friend, Li Lingzhen, on another aircraft, heard Shang Si Ting's words and looked at her with a face full of gossip, seemingly imagining countless wild scenarios.
"Shang Si Ting? Are you here on behalf of the Shang family?"
Kang Chuan's face turned grim.
He never imagined Shang Si Ting would show up here, let alone help Han Zhen.
'How do they even know each other?'
Even more surprising to Kang Chuan was that the large screens originally displaying Han Zhen's crimes suddenly cut off and switched to another scene.
It was the final moments of Deep Blue City Guardian First Squad's acting captain, Zhao Hu, before his death.
Yi Fan stood atop the execution platform, his wide hood blown back. He looked at them and shouted his declaration.
"I disagree too!"
