Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Aunt Of Xia Youwei
As the sharp, sarcastic voice rang out, a plump middle-aged woman, accompanied by a little girl, strutted in with great fanfare.
"Aunt!" Xia Youwei quickly stood up.
The woman, addressed as her aunt, waved her hand dismissively.
"Shut up! Well, Xia Youwei, you ungrateful brat, eating and living at my house all the time, and now that you've gained some status, you sneak out to have a good meal without us?"
"No, I—"
"What? Let me tell you, Xia Youwei, your cheap parents died early, and it was out of the goodness of our hearts that we took you in. Without us, you'd have starved to death long ago."
"What are you standing there for? Hurry and make room for us. Can't you see your little sister is waiting to eat hot pot?"
This tirade burst out like popping sesame seeds, leaving even the district commanders at the table momentarily stunned. The scene fell silent.
"What are you all staring at? You must be relatives of the boy's family, right? What, trying to take our Youwei with just one meal? Let me tell you, no way."
"You, your name's Han Zhen, right? You might be famous now, but remember, you're only here today because our Youwei awakened her spiritual contract. You—"
"Enough!"
The usually soft-spoken Xia Youwei suddenly interrupted with fury, her voice brimming with anger. She could endure being scolded, but saying anything about Han Zhen was absolutely out of the question.
Clenching her fists, Xia Youwei stared fiercely at her aunt, Xia Yan, like an angry little doe.
"You dare yell at me? Xia Youwei, you've got some nerve. Think you're untouchable just because you passed that stupid assessment?"
"Let me tell you, Niu Niu's uncle is the head of the Fourth District. If you dare yell at me, I'll make sure you can't survive in the spiritual contract master world."
As she finished, everyone turned their eyes toward Shen Zheqi, who sat at the table.
"I didn't—"
Before Shen Zheqi could explain, Xia Yan cut him off.
"What's it got to do with you? Who do you think you are?"
She then turned her gaze to Li Shutong, who sat at the head of the table, silent. Her lips curled into a sneer.
"You must be Han Zhen's grandfather, huh? Old geezer."
Hearing this final insult, the district commanders couldn't help but twitch, swallowing hard.
What a gutsy woman. Even the three Insect Emperors didn't dare address him like that, yet she did. Truly fearless.
"I'll make it clear. Xia Youwei may have signed a contract with your Han Zhen, but without our approval, it doesn't count."
"Gold, a betrothal gift, a house, a car—everything must be included."
"Also, all the years Xia Youwei has lived and eaten in our house must be repaid. About three million, I'd say. You'll have to pay that too."
As she spoke, Xia Yan's eyes widened with a predatory look.
"Let me warn you: we have connections."
"Niu Niu's uncle is in the Fourth District, her other uncle is in the Third District, and she has a cousin in the Fifth District."
"If you dare cross me, think carefully about the consequences."
Xia Yan puffed herself up, attempting to intimidate the group by listing every possible connection she could muster with her limited intellect.
Having finished her declaration, she sat down triumphantly, convinced she was about to strike gold.
Usually, she wouldn't care about that orphaned brat, sparing her a meal only out of consideration for the inheritance Xia Youwei's parents had entrusted to her.
But today, Niu Niu had been whining about wanting to watch TV. Unable to resist, she turned it on, only to catch the live broadcast of the spiritual contract assessment.
Her mind immediately came alive with schemes.
This wasn't just a random kid anymore—this was a cash cow.
"If you can't pay, I'll have her cancel the contract with Han Zhen right away."
"Then I'll find a wealthy husband for her instead. Wouldn't that be perfect?"
Finally, she stopped talking. Everything that needed saying, she had said.
Li Shutong set down his chopsticks, pursing his lips slightly.
"What are you waiting for? She called me an old geezer—why aren't you making calls already?"
At his words, Ye Qiu from the Third District, Shen Zheqi from the Fourth District, and Liu Jingchun from the Fifth District all hurriedly pulled out their phones, faces dark with anger.
'Damn it, why does this have to happen in our districts?'
As the same thought crossed their minds, Li Shutong turned his gaze to Xia Yan, who sat with one leg crossed over the other.
"You say you have connections above you."
"But I no longer have anyone above me."
Before Xia Yan could understand the meaning of his words, her phone began to ring.
She immediately answered, her face lighting up with a grin.
"Hello? Oh, it's you, Niu Niu's uncle. How nice of you to call—"
"You idiot! Are you trying to get us all killed? From now on, our families are cutting ties. Goodbye!"
Her smile froze on her face.
Before she could process it, a second call came through.
"Niu Niu's other uncle, you—"
"Xia Yan, don't drag us into this. We're blocking your number. A final warning: stay away from Han Zhen and Xia Youwei."
A third call followed shortly after.
"Xiao Jiang—"
"Xia Yan, you old fool. Don't let me see you again. If I do, I'll beat you up. Goodbye!"
"Beep, beep, beep."
Three consecutive calls shattered Xia Yan's smug confidence.
"You—you all—"
Her face turned pale, and she suddenly collapsed onto the floor, wailing loudly:
"Someone come quick. This spiritual contract master, Han Zhen, is bullying us common folk. His family's influence is too great, and we ordinary people can't fight back. They're forcing me to my death." [T/N: 🤣]
Flailing on the ground, shouting, and playing the victim—she used every trick in her book.
But after flopping around for a while, she realized no one was coming to watch.
"All right, enough of this nonsense. The hot pot's ready. Let's eat," Li Shutong said with a wave of his hand.
Lin Jingxuan nodded, and in the next moment, Xia Yan and her daughter were teleported a full ten thousand meters away.
"Teacher, I'm sorry…"
Xia Youwei stood there, head bowed in shame. This mess was ultimately tied to her.
Li Shutong placed a piece of beef in her bowl and said gently:
"Youwei, this isn't your fault."
"You may have lost your parents, but now you have Han Zhen, your senior brothers, and me."
"From now on, we're your family."
"Also, you'll be staying with me for a while to train, so don't go back to your aunt's house anymore."
"Now, eat up!"
