Spite Demon
Monster Level - II
Soul Type - Composite
Intelligence - Humanoid
Strength - Average
Magic - Average
Rarity - Uncommon
The stereotypical demon, they stand four to five feet tall, with red skin and curled horns. Most also have a bony tail that ends in a spike. These malicious monsters form from the anger born of evil people who insist that they 'had no choice' or 'were serving the greater good.' Basically self justifying jerks. As the petty grudges and meanness involved is fairly small and common, these are the most common demons by far, and will pop up almost anywhere.
Their combat skills aren't much to write home about, save for their ability to toss balls of clinging fire. While slow moving the globs do catch and burn well, so there's always a chance of injury to those not immune to fire. The stuff barely burns hotter than alcohol though, so a good metal shield can handle most of it. Physically their lack of reach and muscle mass dooms them to fodder status, though a pack can be quite dangerous.
Unfortunately they tend to run in packs. These miserable creatures either go on a tear, mistreating everyone until they're squashed, or seek out greater demons. Who gladly accept new cannon fodder for their schemes. When moving to fight a greater demon in their lair, you can be assured there will be a pack of these miserable things around. Bring fire protection and backup.
Despite their fire powers, Spite Demons are not immune to fire. Feel free to burn them all~
Merge
Common Name : Tiefling
Benefits : Improved strength, fire conjuring
Weaknesses : Uncontrollable tail
Those people who bind with spite demons suffer fairly drastic alterations. Their bodies gain muscle mass, while their skin gets a red color. Most grow horns, while all get a demon tail, though the spike is usually replaced with a useless spade. Yellowed eyes are another common trait though that may be unconscious mental remodeling with the merge.
The benefits of the merge seem pretty good for a small easily killed monster. A general increase in strength and stamina, as well as the ability to summon flames at will. While not the infernos a mage can throw around, usually 'pretty hot' is good enough. If nothing else they never have to carry matches.
However the downside can be quite annoying. Deliberately. They have no control over the tail that's attached to them, and the thing likes to play 'pranks' on the people around it. Including the merge itself. Fortunately these tails aren't fully prehensile, but they're flexible enough to cause trouble. And even just naturally they can mess up a lot of things. Tieflings avoid shelves or tabletops that their tails can reach. A cat might toss your stuff off of high places, a tiefling tail will.
While they have no fire resistance, like the creature they've merged with, all tieflings seem to get a very strong resistance to spices. For those who can handle the heat they've created some interesting flavor profiles.
