Chapter 63: Tang San: "Listen to Me!"
As for the team name, it was quickly decided—they would be called the Shrek Team.
Since only seven people could compete in the match, calling them the "Shrek Seven Devils" would have left one person out. Similarly, "Shrek Eight Devils" wouldn't have worked either, as only seven could participate.
Yu Xiaogang had strict requirements for everyone: each day, they had to participate in at least two Soul Battle matches.
This meant that aside from the mandatory team match, they also had to compete in either an individual match or a duo match.
Considering that one person wouldn't be able to participate in the team match, that person would have one fewer match to play.
For battle-type Soul Masters, this was manageable. However, for support-type Soul Masters, who couldn't compete in individual matches, they could only form a duo team with someone else.
Naturally, Ning Rongrong was paired with Su Mo.
Tang San and Xiao Wu were also paired as a duo.
Oscar could only pair with Dai Mubai, since other than Tang San and Xiao Wu, Dai Mubai was the only one at the Soul Elder level like him.
As for Ma Hongjun, he could have paired with Zhu Zhuqing, but neither of them expressed any interest in teaming up. It was clear they didn't want to work together.
Zhu Zhuqing had never liked Ma Hongjun, and Ma Hongjun, out of respect for Dai Mubai, held back his enthusiasm—though he would have gladly teamed up with Zhu Zhuqing if given the chance.
"The results are in. Your opponents are the Mad Battle Team!"
"This team is strong—all of their members are above level 35, and they've already won six consecutive matches!"
"For this team battle, Tang San's control abilities are essential. Ning Rongrong will provide status enhancements, Oscar will support with flight abilities, Dai Mubai and Su Mo will focus on offense, while Xiao Wu and Ma Hongjun will protect the support members. Zhu Zhuqing, you'll sit this one out."
After Shrek Academy signed up for the competition, the results were quickly posted, and Yu Xiaogang made the arrangements for the team battle.
For now, Zhu Zhuqing was benched by Yu Xiaogang.
"I understand," Zhu Zhuqing replied, though there was a hint of reluctance in her expression.
Dai Mubai, seeing Zhu Zhuqing sidelined, also showed a flash of displeasure in his eyes.
No one else seemed to react.
"Here's the information on the Mad Battle Team. Look through it."
"Tang San, since you're the control-type Soul Master, you'll be in charge of commanding the battle on stage!"
Yu Xiaogang handed over the team data on their opponents and assigned the task of team commander to Tang San.
"Yes, teacher!" Tang San accepted the role without hesitation.
…
Once they reached the arena, just before the match started, Tang San quickly laid out his strategy to Su Mo and the others.
"Alright, no problem!"
"Got it!"
Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and the others nodded excitedly.
It was their first time competing in a team battle, and everyone was both excited and a bit nervous.
As the announcer signaled the start of the match, Shrek Academy's first team battle officially began.
During the battle, Su Mo replaced Zhu Zhuqing, and though the flow of the match didn't change significantly, Tang San used the Mad Battle Team's tendency to target support-type Soul Masters to set traps. He then used his Blue Silver Grass to immobilize two of the Mad Battle Team members who were attacking Oscar and Ning Rongrong.
Su Mo faced a level 37 Soul Elder. Though Su Mo had the upper hand, he couldn't defeat his opponent instantly. It took him a while to finally secure victory.
Even without using the combined Soul Tool and battle mode, Su Mo's performance was impressive—defeating an opponent above his level.
Seeing this, the Mad Battle Team members were shocked.
Taking advantage of the situation, Xiao Wu and Ma Hongjun launched an attack on the opponent's support-type Soul Master, who had a Martial Soul resembling a Ruyi Plate.
However, before they could take him down, the support-type Soul Master managed to activate his third soul skill: Frenzied Aura.
Under the influence of Frenzied Aura, all members of the Mad Battle Team, except for the woman with the Man-Faced Demon Spider Martial Soul, were thrown into a state of frenzy. Their attributes skyrocketed, and they lost the ability to feel pain.
The downside was that they gradually lost their reasoning, focusing solely on attacking.
Even the member that Su Mo had previously defeated stood back up, revitalized by the Frenzied Aura.
Faced with the Mad Battle Team in their frenzied state, Tang San instructed everyone to eat Oscar's Mushroom Sausages and fly into the air, temporarily avoiding a direct confrontation.
Seeing Shrek's members all take to the sky, the Mad Battle Team naturally tried everything to attack them, but Su Mo and the others managed to evade their attempts.
The Mad Battle Team soon lost all rationality, and the woman with the Man-Faced Demon Spider Martial Soul had to use her spider silk to control them.
For a while, the two sides were locked in a stalemate.
"Oscar, how many more Mushroom Sausages can you make?" Tang San asked while observing the Mad Battle Team.
"My soul power is running low; I can only make one more Mushroom Sausage," Oscar replied seriously.
"Then please make one more." Tang San nodded, adding, "Once your flight time ends, everyone should retreat."
"I estimate their frenzied state won't last much longer. When it ends, they'll be left in a weakened state. Aside from that female control-type Soul Master, the rest of their team should be defenseless. I can handle them alone."
Tang San quickly laid out his plan.
"Let me do it instead," Dai Mubai offered.
"No, I'll do it. I still have ways to protect myself. Since I'm in charge of this battle, you should all listen to me! Don't worry, I'm confident," Tang San shook his head and reassured the group.
"…" Su Mo initially wanted to say something, but seeing Tang San's confidence, he stayed silent.
After their flight time expired, everyone except Tang San, who ate another Mushroom Sausage, landed and withdrew from the arena.
"Su Mo, do you think Tang San can win?" Ning Rongrong asked, worried, as they watched Tang San hovering above the battlefield, maintaining the stalemate with the Mad Battle Team.
"Tang San's assessment of their situation should be accurate. Given his strength, he shouldn't have a problem," Su Mo calmly analyzed.
"Really? That's great!" Ning Rongrong beamed at Su Mo's words, feeling relieved.
Dai Mubai and the others, hearing Su Mo's analysis, looked expectantly at the ongoing match. Their trust in Su Mo's judgment was well-founded, as past experiences had shown that his predictions were usually correct.
Watching Xiao Wu and the others brighten up at his words, Su Mo felt a bit speechless. Even if we win, how much does it really matter to us?
"That was a lousy performance!"
"This match was just awful!"
At this moment, Bibi Dong, standing beside Su Mo, started complaining non-stop.
Su Mo glanced at Bibi Dong, motioning for her to elaborate.
Su Mo had already noticed the issues but chose not to voice them in front of everyone. He didn't care much for the team anymore.
Still, since the problems were hard to ignore, he let Bibi Dong do the venti
