Sorcerer: I want to be an Academic Prodigy

Chapter 125: As One Wave Settles, Another Rises

No wonder we hadn't encountered any formidable magicalized wild beasts before, it turns out that the powerful big fellows were hidden inside the magic stone mine.

Two magicalized pangolins blocked the entrance to the passage—one facing inward, the other outward—splitting the battlefield in two.

The situation inside the white bones pit was unknown; outside, there were only Ivan, Gina, and Cooke. Cooke didn't know any Lightning-type magic, and during the previous encirclement, he stood on the outer edge, and now he had retreated outside with Ivan.

'Continuous Fireballs'

Once Cooke was in position, he launched a fireball attack at the magicalized pangolin with its head facing outward. Six fist-sized fireballs formed an array as they cleverly flew toward the eyes of the magicalized pangolin.

The fireballs hit their target, with sparks splattering brilliantly.

"No good, this beast's magic resistance is extraordinary."

Cooke could see clearly that the magicalized pangolin simply closed its eyes to perform a simple action, letting the fireballs hit it, leaving only shallow scorch marks on its armor-like scales.

This was much further from Cooke's expectations than he had thought, and his heart sank.

The tightly packed scales were impenetrable, making the magicalized pangolin like a moving fortress, coupled with strong magic defense, and likely the strong toxin Resistance it possessed, it seemed to be naturally designed to counter sorcerers.

Ivan and Gina saw this scene as well.

Their eyes met, and they realized they had to fight desperately in the current situation, instantly exchanging a tactic through mental communication.

"All in!"

Ivan cast the newly learned Ground Vine Skill, with the power LED falling into the ground. In front of them near the magicalized pangolin, brown vines drilled out of the soil, some targeting the underbelly of the magicalized pangolin, some wrapping around it.

Gina cast the Ice Arrow Skill, aiming for the eyes of the magicalized pangolin.

Both targeted the magicalized pangolin whose head was facing them, the one closer to them.

For the first time, they saw arrogance on a magicalized wild beast; the creature didn't move at all, remaining languid as if allowing them to attack at will.

Under the magicalized pangolin's strong magic resistance, the magic attacks were unimpressive.

However, the magic was only a distraction; rapid wood silkworms and venomous fire ants had already swarmed out. When the magicalized pangolin closed its eyes, they quickly approached it.

"Ting, ting, ting."

This time the rapid wood silkworms kicked the iron plate, completely unable to affect the other's scales, so dense that not even a single crevice existed.

When the rapid wood silkworms were at a loss, not far away, Ivan moved his fingers. The vines he had summoned changed shape, thrusting one end underneath the scales, forcibly levering them open a couple of centimeters.

Rapid wood moths took advantage of the situation and burrowed in, with several entering in succession.

In another location, with the cooperation of the vines, the venomous fire ants made the same move.

The fortress had been pried open with an opening.

Then, the magicalized pangolin sensed something was wrong and could no longer maintain its stoic posture. Its slender tongue reached out, attempting to attack the three people not far away.

Cooke waited for this opportunity—the Continuous Fireballs were perfectly cast, hitting the protruding tongue. Discover hidden tales at empire

"Roar."

The tongue lacked scale protection, and this blow, coupled with the invasive insects, completely enraged the magicalized pangolin.

It roared furiously, its massive body rushing forward, ready to take care of the main culprits that caused it pain.

The three hurriedly moved away, luring the magicalized pangolin to the other side of the cave.

With one magicalized pangolin gone, the white bones pit was visible again. The situation inside was mixed; three apprentices had been knocked away during the previous ambush and now their fate was uncertain, most likely more bad news than good.

The white-scaled giant snake had collapsed with a crash.

Although it was tough-skinned and flesh-thick, it couldn't withstand so many Lightning-type magic attacks. After crashing down, it was finished off with a sword by Wolban, severing its last thread of life.

Only three apprentices remained able to fight at the white bones pit, Heidi, Wolban, and Sulla from the Hunting Team.

Now, each side had turned into three apprentices battling against one magicalized pangolin.

The magicalized pangolin, unlike the white-scaled giant snake, suffered little damage from Lightning-type magic.

"Gina and the others probably won't be able to hold on much longer."

"I understand."

Heidi and Wolban, being the strongest, were already struggling to take on such a beast together, let alone the others. They could not help but worry about their comrades and knew they could not afford any more losses.

Suddenly, a painful roar erupted from the other side, causing the surrounding air to tremble.

The cry of their companion drew the attention of the magicalized pangolin on their side, which prepared to abandon the fight here and turn towards the commotion.

"Stop it."

Neither Heidi nor Wolban were about to let it have its way. Several spell chains materialized out of thin air, binding the magicalized pangolin in place, immobilizing it.

As the trio fought against the magicalized pangolin on their side, the wails from the other side continued, bringing echo after echo that left them confused and increasingly anxious.

Soon, Heidi and the others managed to put down the agitated magicalized pangolin.

Upon inspection, they found two apprentices dead and one injured, with little hope of saving the latter.

Ignoring their own exhaustion, they hurried to the other side of the cave to check on their comrades. Along the way, they saw holes smashed into the ground, not stopping until they came upon the lifeless body of the other magicalized pangolin, which finally allowed them to breathe a sigh of relief.

This magicalized pangolin was covered in dirt but bore no obvious external injuries. They looked puzzled at the others.

Breathing hard, Cooke said, "It was their silkworms' doing. I was just running away."

However, Gina shook her head, "Not mine. This magicalized wild beast has strong resistance to poison. My silkworms couldn't have managed such a big meal."

After hearing from both of them, they realized that it was Ivan's horde of silkworms that had accomplished the deed.

Indeed, the rapid wood silkworms had turned the tides significantly.

Not to mention that rapid wood silkworms don't usually eat meat; in urgency, they would eat anything, and moreover, they had orders from the 'king.' A frenzied feast ensued where they devoured the magicalized pangolin from the inside out.

Ivan did not feign modesty. Seeing them look towards him, he couldn't help but smile.

Heidi nodded at him, showing her appreciation and acknowledgment.

With that, all enemies had been eliminated.

However, the two apprentices who had escaped had still not shown themselves, leaving everyone unsettled until they were found and dealt with.

Heidi summoned the black two-headed hound once again.

"Woof woof."

As the black two-headed hound landed, it joyfully ran towards the depths of the cave, heading straight for the location of the white bones pit.

Unexpectedly, during their short departure, two people had appeared at the white bones pit—the very two who had escaped. Moreover, they had moved the corpses of the magicalized pangolin, the white-scaled giant snake, and the apprentice from Swamp Forest City to the center of the pit, seemingly preparing for something.

"Haha, you arrived just in time, a perfect moment to witness this magnificent event."

Seeing the group approaching, Melinda and Allen did not panic. Instead, they revealed a look of delighted surprise.

As their words faded, spotty lights illuminated around the white bones pit, the concentration of energy particles rapidly intensified, and runes began to float in the middle of the pit, enveloping the two of them and the two giant magicalized wild beasts.

"Quick! Stop them."

Seeing the dangerous turn of events, Heidi urgently signaled the others to intervene. She then took out the clear token, connecting with the defensive sorcery array around the outer perimeter of the Kanda magic stone mine, ready to oppose array with array. However, this required several tens of seconds.
