Chapter 12: A Peculiar Clue
The next few days following their incident with Roman Torchwick meant that Team RWBY and the others were closer to trying to find out what his plans were and more specifically where he was going to work on it from; Blake's findings managed to single him out to Southeast Vale but unfortunately without knowing what the plan was, all that did was drive Blake into further disarray as she didn't want to leave any stone unturned.
"Guys…I'm starting to get worried about Blake…" Ruby mentioned as the three of them plus Jason were sat around a table in Team RWBY's Dorm after Blake made another snippy rejection to attend the dance that Team RWBY were helping to organise. "She's been hardly sleeping, she eats even less than she does before and even Glynda's started to notice her grades slipping…."
"We have to get her to slow down or at least make her see that this kind of fixation isn't healthy." Weiss added as she looked to the other three from her book and then to Jason who seemed oddly quiet. "Jason…I don't suppose you have a mind reading form or a sleep form, do you?"
"I do…But I'm not gonna use it…" Jason mentioned flatly as he looked to Weiss; "We can talk to her without the added risk."
"What added risk? If you can make Blake see that what she's doing isn't good for her, then I don't think there's a problem besides a lack of permission." Weiss insisted, not realising that Jason's objection towards this was not just about ethics or consent.
"Well, for starters…It's highly intrusive and very much an ethical minefield to go rooting around in someone's head like that." Jason pointed out as he then kept his stern focus on Weiss. "Not to mention that dealing with something that deep rooted means that we could potentially mess up things like memories or worse…We could end up making her a vegetable."
Weiss paled even more than she already looked once she considered the possibility of that; "Right…Trust you to think of stuff like that…"
"Well, I'm not exactly thrilled about there not being an insta-fix….But Jason's got a point." Yang agreed before getting up and facing the group with that usual confidence; "Besides, I KNOW that Blake will be going to the Dance."
"You're that certain? Well, I guess that we don't really have any other options…Until then, I've got things to do in Vale…" Jason admitted as he got up and picked up his bag.
"What things? I don't think I've ever seen you do anything outside of training or studying." Weiss mentioned as she watched him suspiciously; "You're not going to try helping Blake with information gathering, are you?"
"And add to the problem? Not a single chance…." Jason stated with an absolutely serious look on his face.
The girls might have believed him if he wasn't currently twitching his eyebrow out of a nervous tic…or in his case. "You're doing something on the side…Aren't you?" Yang asked him as she smirked; She wasn't exactly angry that Jason was lying to them, mainly because he was at least doing something to help lighten the load on Blake somewhat.
"Alright fine…" Jason sighed and then then gestured for them to lean in while he put his Scroll in the middle of the table. "I've done some digging on my side and I've managed to come up with this; By using Patch's abilities to meld with tech, I was able to see any activity going on with White Fang or Torchwick but turned up nothing…"
"Really? Tech fusing form and you can't find a crime gang?" Yang asked him with a raised eyebrow but Jason shook his head.
"BUT…I did use Lil Brain's mind to "improve" my scroll to tap into certain frequencies around Vale…Including commercial channels and commerce routes…Can you believe that no one thought about adding chilli cheese fries in any of the restaurants around Vale? It's nuts…" Jason continued on his tangent.
"You're going off the rails, Jason…White Fang and Torchwick, remember?" Weiss snapped her fingers in front of his face to get him to focus.
"Hold on, I'm getting there!" Jason huffed before then tapping his Scroll; "I also managed to tap into the local police frequencies so I could track Torchwick and the WF through the only other way I could think of…Grimm activity.." He explained; "I've managed to turn up some news that Grimm have been forming groups and gathering in the South East of Vale, just like Blake said they would…Now we know it's a definite and not just the weasel trying to keep his location vague."
"So if you know where they're meeting then where is it?" Ruby asked him as she was starting to feel excited now that they were getting closer and to a lesser extent helping to calm Blake down.
"Mountain Glenn…It's the only place that I can think of that's completely emptied out because of it's history and on top of that, it's map shows that under the city are deep caves so if they're not hiding in the in the village then you can imagine that they're working out of the underground." Jason then finished by pocketing his Scroll.
"You've…really done your homework on this. I must say, you've come in with some decent help." Weiss was surprised enough to compliment him on his work on narrowing down their search.
"You're telling me…Thanks to Mr. Multi-form and using his noggin to cash in on the smart stuff." Yang smirked as she slapped Jason on the back.
"Well..It's less about being smart as it is about thinking outside of the box." Jason admitted as he felt a little embarrassed with the piled on praise.
"On top of two of those forms you take have both technology melding AND the ability to enhance your own intelligence." Weiss pointed out with a slight smirk. "So if you're not going into Vale for this then what ARE you doing it for?"
"Yang asked me to gather some stuff up for the Dance that you guys are prepping for…Since I can be an extra pair of hands and move at the speed of sound, it gives you three more of a chance to get the Dance ready and help convince Blake that we can help." Jason elaborated as he then walked over to the door; "Plus, I find that staying in one place too long gets me feeling a little antsy." He'd admit before leaving.
"Well, I guess you heard 'em, let's get to work!" Yang stretched out as she decided to go try finding Blake; "You two start gathering stuff for the ballroom, I'll check in with our guest of honour and then help with the heavy lifting." She promised as she started with the first place that Blake would be: The Library.
—In Vale—
"Okay, so aside from the fact that I have 8 mill in the bank thanks to Torchwick and I can't believe I'm thinking it but I'm seriously missing a Strawberry and chocolate chip smoothie from Mr Smoothy, FOCUS, J!…I got a list f-" Jae murmured to himself as the static from a radio could be heard from his pocket to take him out of nostalgia.
"All units, all units…We have reports of a robbery going on in downtown…Looks like a bunch of thugs tried stealing Dust…."
"And there's my cue…Let's see if I can sneak in a little help…" Jae thought to himself then decided to get speeding but luckily he could hear the sirens getting louder, "Looks like they're coming this way…I can wing it…."
And right on cue, a large van came speeding around the corner with a bunch of robbers shooting at the police that were chasing them from behind. "Come on, move it faster! Torchwick picked this place clean so if we can sell this, we can make some good bank!" The driver yelled out to the shooters before he got dazzled by a green light and then got jerked forward into the steering wheel with a less than dignified HONK! After trying the gas pedal to see if they could power through, the driver noticed that they weren't moving and then yelped when he saw a large multi armed creature stopping the van.
"Hey! Traffic laws normally say that red means stop, I'm guessing this is your first drive?" Titan grinned as he had two large beefy arms gripped onto the side of the van's bonnet while his other arms held on to the front bumper.
"W-What the hell are you?!" The driver then pulled out a gun and pointed it at Titan's head, though the large red man's face wasn't exactly phased by it.
"Go ahead, shoot the guy who can smash your truck barehanded…See what happens….Now get out and put your hands against the wall!" Titan barked as he gave the front a squeeze, giving both the Driver and the shooters enough of a motivation to listen when they heard the metal creak under his fingers.
That alone was all the motivation that the criminals needed to climb out of the truck and placed their hands to the wall while Jason left them after turning back to a regular person.
Jason would grin to himself as he listened to the crooks babble about a giant red man who smashed their ride and forced them out while they got arrested. "Hehehe, best part about this thing, I can just blend right back into the crowd before anyone knows what's wrong." Jason grinned to himself as he checked off the first of the list when he got Yang's list of CDs to buy for the dance and then headed onward to find the next item, only to find that the fancy drinks that Weiss requested for the dispenser had been stolen. "What happened out here?"
"Eh, robbery…Since the Dust shops have all been hit and everywhere's gotten tighter security, a lot of the thugs around here have resorted to robbing this place for discount booze…Jokes on them though, all the stuff here is non-alcoholic." One of the Cops lazily briefed as he wrote in his notebook.
"They still got robbed and some pricey drinks got stolen as well, a ton of that stuff could be pawned off to some rich berk who can't tell the difference."
Jason nodded to himself as he waited until the two cops left from out of the vicinity and gave him the chance to change into Feralhound to get the scent. "Huh, ginger…elderberries…ugh…That's definitely durian….I think I know where to go…" Feralhound quickly bounded down the back alleys and made several acrobatic climbs to the rooftops to keep the scent trail going.
Thankfully with so many people focused on what was in front or around them, no one ever bothered looking up to the sky when a giant orange dog creature hopped between the rooftops, the scent slowly getting stronger as Jason kept getting closer to the source; A large storehouse on the edge of town but far enough away from Junior's club that he wouldn't notice or care.
Just as Feralhound figured it wasn't much, a truck showed up with White Fang in tow to offload what they had gotten in their heists. Large boxes full of everything they stole ranging from the large scale stuff to the minute stashes of Dust Crystals that they could find on market. "Interesting…Looks like I found an outlier for Torchwick's gang.." He thought as he transformed back into regular Jason and used his Scroll to take pictures of the hideout before getting up and vanishing in a green light. "I guess it's time that I take this in a new direction…And who knows? Maybe I can give them a reason to run and hide…"
—Inside the Warehouse—
The White Fang had one clear objective in mind: Get whatever stock they had stolen and get it ready to be transported to their new base up in Mountain Glenn, it was an easy job for anyone to do but the problem was that there was about 30 Soldiers to clear out a large warehouse that was just as big as Roman Torchwick's base that they used before. The WF might have been able to see in the dark but with every action they take echoing in those big halls and the whole atmosphere was unnerving.
"Let's just hurry this up! This place gives me the creeps…." One soldier would grumble as he pushed a cart with a box full of stolen weapons and contraband from what looked like a raided evidence locker in a police station.
"We can't rush this….Boss wants us to pick this place clean." One of the overseeing White Fang captains explained as he stood by one of the airships. "If we leave anything behind, it'll either get traced back to us or we'll end up losing money for it."
"Well…Plus side is that we've not got anyone following us and it's too far out of Junior's territory that he doesn't snoop around, right Jer….Jerhii? You still out there buddy?" One of the soldier's called out but there was no response…Not a good sign. "Jherhii? If you're trying to prank us, it's not funny!"
Silence echoed out as the lack of a retort spoke louder. The only thing to "Respond" to the guy's complaint was a flickering light that dimmed before popping.
"Okay, I think we should probably get the guys leaving now…." Another soldier mentioned with a rather urgent note of anxiety and began to slowly back away; "I think I've seen enough flicks to know how this is gonna end."
"Oh, come on…It's probably just a bad line or it could be Ketser pushing buttons up in the control room…"
"Still Tomasz, we should probably leave…Torchwick said that we had a schedule and I don't wanna be around if Adam has to step in…"
Tomasz grimaced and sighed; "Alright, alright…Let's just pack up the last stuff and get going….Scaredy cats, every single one of you!" He grumbled as he got into a forklift. "AND I'M ALLOWED TO SAY THAT BECAUSE I'M THE ONLY CAT FAUNUS HERE!" He yelled to them as he turned a corner and saw a shadow zip past his line of vision, causing him to swerve and brake. "The he-Jherii?!" He then ran over as he saw the collapsed soldier, their mousey tail curled around their leg and was shaking violently like they had seen something awful.
"Turnonthelightturnonthelightturnonthelight!" Jherii kept mumbling to themself like the mantra was the only thing keeping them stable but then went nuts when they saw their comrade. "Tomasz! Get the lights! Stay in the light!" They screamed out and begged as they grabbed onto his leg.
"Jherii, calm it down! What was it? Did you see who it was that did this?" Tomasz asked as he tried to get an answer but saw the light flickering again, only this time the fluctuating bulb started to make Jherii panic more and he scrambled out of the way with an ear piercing screech.
"IT'S COMING BACK! THE THING IS COMING BACK! LEAVE THE DARK!"
"Okay, I'm starting to see your point…Ketser! Ketser, get your ass down here…We're ditching this place!" Tomasz was starting to feel his own dread rise as this whole thing was getting spooky. It was also the last thing he remembered as a clawed hand reached out and grabbed him, pulling him back into the dark screaming in fear.
By the time that Ketser got to where Tomasz used to be, the only thing that remained was the Grimm mask that he wore. "Uh…T? Jherii? You guys still there?" He asked and looked around but then saw something rise up off the ground slowly with a bone chilling sound of chains rattling in the open area.
"Ketser…You gotta run…" Tomasz groaned as he looked dead into the other soldier's eyes, "It knows everything…About the shipments…And the hideout…"
"Tomasz…What is it? What did this to you…." Ketser tried to question but then grabbed his rifle when Tomasz collapsed to the ground. "Alright, you asshole! You have 5 seconds to give up or run…Because I'm gonna find you…AND THEN I'LL PUT ONE BETWEEN YOUR EYES!" Another light popped and the warehouse got darker, spooking Ketser into firing off a burst. "Where are you…WHERE ARE YOU?!"
As he backed up towards a corner where a small fragment of light still hung in the air, he saw their assailant for what it was; The others weren't wrong when they thought it was a Geist based on the shadow but the resemblance stopped there as this creature's head was a greyish brown skull, which had fanged teeth, black lips, and one orange eye while the other eye was on his chest. His purple skin was loose and flowing enough to look like the hood and cloak of a stereotypical Grim Reaper. "I'm right here." A harsh, croaking voice spilled out of it's mouth like it was the last remnants of air escaping a tomb.
"What…Are you? You're no Geist…You won't…YOU WON'T TAKE ME TOO!" Ketser protested and let loose a battle cry as he emptied out his magazine into the monster's body, however it looked like the bullets just phased through it's body and punctuated by it's harsh laughter.
"True…I am no Geist, my name is Necroplasm…And I am something far worse for you…" Necroplasm hissed before holding it's arm out and using it's other hand to twist the orange symbol on it's chest. Appearing in it's outstretched hand was a solid black staff that looked like the gnarled branch of a burned tree followed by a shimmering green light sprouting from the edge and curved downward until it became a vicious looking scythe.
"I'm…" Ketser felt his body shake before aiming his gun again, however Necroplasm was too fast as he swung his scythe and created an arc of green repulsive energy that sent the White Fang member flying out of the room and into the street. "Okay! I yield! I yield!"
"Tell me your plans…now!" Necroplasm hissed as he pointed his scythe at Ketser, "Because I am in no mood for 20 questions."
"T-The White Fang and Roman Torchwick have headed out to the south east of Vale….To the broken up city by Mountain Glenn!"
"I already know that…What else can you tell me?" The giant reaper snarled as he was getting impatient.
"I-" Ketser started but then felt the ground under him start to rumble as a bunch of the metal containers started to levitate off of the ground and form into a pile. "I-I told you everything! Really, there's nothing left…Please don't hurt me!"
"That's not me…" Necroplasm thought as he saw what now became a building sized colossus made out of metal containers and the parts that weren't connected had a dark smoke emanating between it's joints.
"G-GEIST!" Ketser yelled and ran since he knew that a Geist with possession had more of a threat to it so he instead made a beeline for the truck.
Necroplasm smirked as he looked at it for a weak spot and decided to try going for the white mask that was firmly attached to the biggest container that it used as it's head. Before it could take a step forward to try crushing them under it's foot; Necroplasm then rammed the glowing green scythe blade into the ground and then watched the entire go off balance as the green blade stabbed back upward in a column of smaller blades towards it's leg.
The Colossus stumbled and was roaring in annoyance as it rammed it's head into a nearby crane, swinging it's arm outward like it was trying to swat an insect away.
Necroplasm floated upward and past the arm, using the repulsive energy in the scythe blade to cut through the connecting points on it's arm and watched it fall apart. "I can't waste time here…If I remember what Port taught us is that the Geist's weak point is it's face…So if I can separate it then I can try to-" He thought but then the sudden countdown of the form began and he froze up as he got to the head, turning back into Jason and hit the Colossus's "Head" with a painful sounding noise.
Once the Geist felt something solid hit it's body, it began to shake itself around and try bucking off this foreign object that had de-limbed it. It's gaseous whispers turned into howling shrieks like the wind was picking up into a gale as it thrashed and scrambled about to try finding something to pick up it's lost appendage but froze when it felt a staff point poke at it's mask.
"Sorry, you're causing enough trouble as it is." Jason smirked as he positioned the staff's opening like he was using a crowbar and then with a few sparks and a green blast; He knocked the Geist loose of it's connection, sending it floating away and the containers now falling to the ground. "One more for good….MEASURE!" He yelled out and thrust his staff forward to knock the Geist down into the ground as the two landed. "Nice, looks like he stopped screaming…But I can't get too lax…"
The Geist was starting to dissipate and looked like was about fall apart, though when it had Jason in its sights, it saw the watch on his hand and pieced together that it and the boy's weapon were linked due to its colour. With one last ditch effort, it stopped playing possum and tried to grab onto the watch in the hopes to possess it.
"No you don't!" Jason then swung the Staff upward into the Geist like a homerun swing and didn't realise that the weapon had converted into a bat, though he did start to feel on edge when that recently changed green light converted into a yellow one as the Geist's fingers tried to claw into the watch. "Gotta go back in…Can't let people see me!" Jason thought as he frantically dashed back towards the warehouse and felt it's influence start to grow. "Now that I think about it…Ben told me about this monster from his time…Called Z'Skayr….I only heard about it but I don't want to take chances!"
Ketser was lost for words in every sense; He watched what he thought was a literal Grim Reaper waiting to take him just like it took the others, then a Geist showed up with all the panic that the White Fang showed and Necroplasm unintentionally amplified to make it turn into a Warehouse Kaiju. Only for the Reaper to turn back into a boy who managed to effortlessly pick it apart and then run off back into the dark. "Kid! You better come out now, I know you're weakened so don't make it harder on yourself." He yelled into the shadows with his gun shaking in his hands.
There was silence for a good few minutes but then a green light shone in the dark briefly and outstepped Jason holding onto the staff. "I wouldn't bother, you're out of rounds and your friends are unconscious." He tiredly listed off as he looked up at Ketser. "So now's your chance to leave if you wanna avoid the cops."
"You…You think you're able to let me go? I could shoot you right now and be done with everything." Ketser snarled and cocked the gun, trying to call Jason's bluff; "Plus I can kill you so you don't become a bigger pain in the boss's plan."
Jason raised an eyebrow. "Then have fun explaining to Torchwick as to why I'm no longer around and why his 8 million in Lien went with me." He pointed out; "Because that guy's gunning for me for a good reason and I'm sure you don't wanna find out if you lose it."
Ketser realised that for all intents and purposes, he and the others lost so he shouldered the rifle and jumped in the loaded truck. "This isn't over! I'll come find you and with more guys! Torchwick and Adam will hang you for thi-" Ketser tried to threaten him but his response was a green bolt of energy that blasted the wing mirror off of the door and it came from Jason holding a sawed off shotgun with that same black with green veins colour scheme as his watch, that was all he needed to slam his foot on the gas and speed off into the night.
This time however, Jason noticed his weapon changed; When he first had it altered after Cardin tried to smash up the watch, it was able to transform between a staff and a carbine rifle. "The hell...It never did that before…Maybe when that weird ice cream girl accidentally triggered Master Control on the Omnitrix…It extended the same access for my weapon…Let's see, what did Necroplasm have?" He mentally theorised and tried to memorise the shape of the weapon that the Ectonurite had used before; The staff quickly wrinkled and gnarled and then let loose a burst of energy from the top and curved around like a green crescent. "Aw, hell yeah! Now I can be scythe buddies with Ruby!" He grinned before retracting it to head off into the city.
Unaware that someone had rushed in after hearing the noise but missed it as Jason ran off back into the cityscape; "NEVER FEAR FOR I AM-Aw man, I missed it!" They groaned and rushed back the way they came.
Jason remembered what he was in Vale for and decided to pick out the last thing that was requested of him: "Fog Machines…Now I just need to know where to find them." He mumbled to himself and then started looking for the tech shop, he had gone there first to try getting it out of the way but they had to get it ready. So Jason opted to come back later and this time he heard a crash of a window. "Jeez, I can't catch a break around here, can I?" He thought as he rushed to a nearby electronics store called "The RustBucket" and saw a group of thugs trying to steal stuff but the odder thing was that he saw a boy in white armour and a black hoody wielding a sword and shield trying to fight them off. "Jaune?!"
"Come on, I can take you all o-Jason?!" Jaune finally turned around when he saw Jason wandering in with a heavy swing of his staff to knock one of the criminals off balance while he used a sword to knock another back. "What are you doing out here?!"
"I'm stopping criminals from robbing a store that I need something from…What are YOU doing here?" Jason mentioned as he then ducked under a club's swing. "I thought you got expelled, why are you acting like a vigilante?"
"I'm not! I overheard cops talking about a robbery here so I'm doing what you would do….And are doing!" Jaune pointed out as he smacked a shorter thug with his shield.
"Can you two focus on me and not on trying to fix your lover's tiff?" A bigger 7ft Man glowered down at them with Fire Dust encrusted knuckles. "You've been knocking around my boys and ruined my flawless robbery…Now I'm gonna be making sure that you two get matching beds in the ICU!"
"Jaune, get out of here and get the police, now!" Jason warned him; "I'll get this guy."
Jaune kept his shield up; "No! I'm always the one who gets help…It's time I helped for once!" He yelled and rushed at the bigger thug.
"It's not that! This isn't like Beacon, these guys won't care if you're not ready!" Jason reminded him as he then aimed his weapon in rifle mode to start peppering the Thug with green bolts of energy.
"I'm not weak! I can do this!" Jaune reiterated as he blocked a punch from the Thug, however the Fire Dust in his knuckles blasted him backward with a powerful shock. "See? I got it handled."
Jason sighed, "I don't know why I try but damn it Jaune…I'm not gonna let a friend get hurt!" He thought to himself before he transformed himself in a green light and emerged as Howler.
"Whoa…What is that?!" Jaune said in awe as he got to his feet. "Is that a Beowolf?!"
Howler smirked as he extended his claws; "Not quite…Now let's put the big guy down…" He remarked as he watched the Thug eye the Loboan.
"You think that mutt can do anything but bark? Because I'm not in the mood to put you down!" The Thug cracked his knuckles, making the steel weapons spark with the Dust ignition.
"Then how about I put YOU down instead." Howler snarled and then expanded his mandibles to let loose a sonic howl at the Thug; Forcing him to cover his ears at the tinnitus inducing noise but unable to block as a double handed claw strike knocked him backwards into a car's windshield.
"Whoa…Sonic Sub-Woofer…How'd you think up that one?!" Jaune asked as he kept on the defensive in case someone came back or any more criminals stepped up.
"It was there, I just avoided using it in case people thought I was a…Grimm?" Howler explained but then saw the guy getting up again with an angry look on his face.
"Alright…Just for that…I'm not just gonna turn you into Barbecue…I'm gonna skin your ass and mount you on my wall, you mangy fuck!" The Thug yelled out in anger as he used his Semblance to make himself bigger and more imposing. "Try yapping at me now!"
"Uh…That's not good…" Jaune felt a little intimidated at seeing the bigger man staring them down and watched Howler getting punched hard and sent skidding into the ground when the strengthened Knuckle blasted him backward. "Really not good…"
"Better start prayin' brat…Because you're next!" The Thug growled as he swung down on Jaune's shield over and over again. "Should've listened to your friend and run!"
Jaune grit his teeth as he kept holding his shield up while feeling the explosive punches raining down on his shield with the force of double Cardin's Mace swings. "Jason…If you've got something else, now's the time!"
"How about you try that again?" Howler growled in a rather echoing metallic tone as he stepped forward in what resembled beast-like armour; A dark grey helmet was shaped to match his head with glowing burnt orange eyes peeking out, the etched metal made it look like a snarl but a grate covered the front of it's mouth and a mane of fur pouring from the back. Aside from a dark orange band of metal around the upper part of his chest and a set of metal gauntlets and greaves, it looked like the armour was essentially hardened fur. "Because I'm not playing around with you if you're out for my friend's head."
"Heh…You think covering yourself is going to stop this? How about I break that armour apart and muzzle you for good, you damned mutt!" The Thug threatened Howler as he then began to rush at him with a savage volley of punches; The sounds of fist on metal and the occasional combustion of Fire Dust echoed in the air but Howler was barely even moving at all, the armour instead soaked up all it's hits and reverberated like he was merely ringing a bell.
"You can go ahead and try but you're just making it worse for yourself…." Howler commented as he swung his head forward to headbutt the Thug in the chest to knock him back.
"He's tough to knock down…But he's also unable to do anything outside of clawing and hitting me at close range…My knuckles are fully charged, once he gets close enough then even a giant wolf thing'll get cooked inside armour like that!" He thought as he gripped his knuckles tightly. "I-I'm sorry! I hadn't intended to take it this far….Just leave me alone and I'll wait for the police!" He begged and tried to maneuver himself better.
"You really think that I'll fall for a trick like that? I know you types well enough that you'll sucker punch me when I relax." Howler pointed out as he got closer and flexed his claws.
"Well, I guess if you need to be praised about something…It's that you're ri-ELEMENTOFSURPRISE!" The Thug suddenly yelled and thrust both fists forward to shoot a giant cone of fire at Howler. Smirking to himself as he saw that he caught the armoured being dead center. "Heh…Nothing but a pile of melted metal and pelt at this poi-Oh…"
Howler's armour was now orange from being heated up but he didn't seem phased at all mainly due to being unsurprised. "You ever wonder what happens when you direct sound into one focus point rather than letting it travel outward?" Howler asked with a growling smirk; "Especially since all those hits you landed on my armour basically made it bounce around and build up more noise…"
"Well it…Oh no…"
Howler threw his head back again but instead of a headbutt; The grate at the front of his helmet's muzzle opened up and with a deafening howl, a powerful blast of sound shot out from the front of Howler's helmet and this time it sent the Thug flying off of the ground at blinding speed before he hit the wall.
Jaune luckily had the sense to cover his ears as he watched the surrounding windows shatter from the sonic shock. "Whoa…What was that?"
Howler then transformed back into Jason once the timer ran out. "Howler…With him, I can make sonic yells and look awesome while doing it….Though the better question is why you're here? You know you'll get in trouble if you get caught getting wrapped up in things here." He pointed out as he helped Jaune his feet.
"I…I thought about the stuff you talked about…You know, the whole "Gotta stand up for myself and take matters for myself" thing…So I thought that if I wanted to be a hero like my ancestors then I'll make myself one." Jaune explained as he sheathed his sword.
"But this isn't the way to do it…Ozpin said you could always enlist at another school once you pass your basic training, doing this will only get you arrested before you can even start!" Jason pointed out; "Besides if you get hurt in the process then that would only make you feel worse…"
"You say that because you've got a busted Semblance and a weird staff…I'm doing this with my own hard work!" Jaune protested and thumped his chest; "Besides, I've already been helping out a bunch of people and I'm making a difference WITHOUT a Semblance or Huntsman training."
"Then what'll happen if you're alone? Or if you get outnumbered, no one's gonna know where you are or if you're an enemy or not…It's all well and good to try and be a hero Jaune, but you need to be practical about this! Think things through and make sure that when you step in to protect someone, you can do so with certainty…." Jason tried to explain while simultaneously trying not to belittle him.
"But then…What am I supposed to do? Just wait until I can graduate?" Jaune bemoaned as he sat on a nearby bench.
"Jaune…Being the hero sounds like it's fun but you have to know when to weigh the risk and consider your options before you jump in…Trust me, I've had my fair share of moments." Jason mentioned with an uncharacteristically serious tone that he never used around others.
"You have…When, exactly?" Jaune asked curiously, wondering when and how Jason managed to figure this message out.
"What matters is that you need to be careful with yourself…Now let's get out of here before the cops try to grab us." Jason urged Jaune as they vanished into the alleyway.
"H-Hey wait!" The old man called out to Jason as he had a large box ready for him. "Your…Your order, sir."
Jason nodded as he walked over and grabbed his wallet but found that his hand was stopped.
"No no…After helping protect my store, this one's on the house." The old man assured him and smiled a little.
"W-Well, if you really think it's okay then thank you." Jason said with a rather embarrassed smile. "Hey Jaune, we got a thanks from th-Jaune?" He then looked around but saw that Jaune was gone from the street. "Where'd he go? Honestly…I try to help and he ju-Wait…The dance! Shoot, I'm gonna run late!" He grumbled but then realised the time as he ducked into an alleyway and turned into Speedfreak. "I'm gonna need to book it but with enough time to get this stuff to Yang and the girls plus get my stuff ready for the Dance…I wonder…Do they have it too?" He thought and then with a quick turn of the symbol on Speedfreak's chest, he got himself a new look.
His head, back fins, arms, knees, and shins were covered in a burnt orange plating, while his arms and shins have white downward curves in them. His thighs, chest, and tail were covered in gray plating and his abdomen is covered in black and white plating, leaving the Omnitrix symbol that was emblazoned on his chest was now connected by four gray tubes. "Oh hell yes, this works out fine….Though this part's new." Speedfreak grinned as the display in his new helmet was showing off different Aura levels in other people but the biggest flare was emanating from Beacon considering it was a combat school. "Time to test the speed limits." Speedfreak would smirk as he then roared up the back wings that opened into thrusters; Leaving him no room to question it as he practically vanished down the road towards Beacon, leaving behind a pair of flaming tracks from where he kicked off.
