Chapter 427 Urgent Time
Regardless of what Yu Tianfeng was thinking, at this moment he could only be put in solitary confinement. Before he left, he also whispered to his teammates to go and inform his uncle.
Gu Pan reflected on what she had just heard from Yu Tianfeng, something about: "His dad stole my uncle's position."
The Deputy Base Commander's position?
This was something Gu Pan and the others had some understanding of. When they were transferring, Yu Shengyao from the main base and Lu Jianguo both had prospects of becoming the Deputy Base Commander here.
However, when the water levels rose last time, the cruise ship that Gu Pan produced saved everyone, and the credit went to Lu Jianguo. As a result, it was only right that Lu Jianguo became the Deputy Base Commander.
So, this Yu Tianfeng must be the nephew of Secretary Yu Shengyao.
They couldn't believe that at a time like this, there were still people who prioritized personal power over the safety of the base.
They had to find an opportunity to speak with Lu Jianguo about this, to warn him. Given Yu Tianfeng's character, which was surely the result of indulgence, Yu Shengyao must be quite a character himself—a normal leader wouldn't cover for a relative to this extent.
Not to mention Yu Tianfeng's Combat Power, which really wasn't all that strong, coupled with his impulsive nature. To be in that position, he definitely had Yu Shengyao's support.
Watching Yu Tianfeng being taken away, the atmosphere amongst Gu Pan and her companions instantly cooled.
Gu Pan looked at Lu Ruisheng, "If it won't work, we'll make a trip."
Guo Gang said, "It's too dangerous. Let's wait for news from their side."
Everyone else felt the same way. After all, of the twelve Reconnaissance Soldiers who went out today, only two returned, with their fate yet uncertain.
Gu Pan didn't say anything more, because whether they would go depended on the circumstances. If there really was no other choice, then she and Lu Ruisheng would have to make the trip. At least she had her Space to cheat death, so surviving was easy.
About an hour passed before Zheng Zhan returned. The surgery for the two Reconnaissance Soldiers would take more than four hours, so the leaders instructed him to first come back and fill Gu Pan and the others in on the known details. Then, after the surgery, they would convey any new information. It was crucial not to waste more time, to prevent the Japanese from cracking the code and opening the Flame Box.
After Zheng Zhan returned, he immediately organized a meeting, which Gu Pan and the others attended, of course.
At the meeting, Commander Zheng introduced everyone to the positions occupied by the Japanese, the geographical environment, and the surrounding situation.
A frontal assault was not an option, for that might lead to many casualties and consume a great deal of ammunition.
Therefore, they had sent Reconnaissance Soldiers last night to scout out the situation and intended to map out the Japanese defenses.
With a specific Defense Map, they could plan the most appropriate combat deployment to attack later.
But unexpectedly, the Reconnaissance Soldiers had suffered heavy casualties, indicating that Japan's defenses were very strict. Thus, they now had to be prepared for a forceful assault.
So, these next few days, Gu Pan and her team would need to quickly integrate with the troops, because not everyone in their group was a military person.
After hearing Zheng Zhan's words, Gu Pan made a request, "Commander Zheng, we'd also like to recommend two people to join this operation."
Zheng Zhan asked, "Haven't all of your people come?"
Gu Pan nodded, "Yes, Dr. Feng Zhekai from the emergency department at Mount Everest Hospital, he has excellent manual dexterity, battlefield medical treatment, and combat experience and coordinates well with us. There's also Fang Lanlan, a guard from the research institute. Her speed far exceeds that of a normal person. She used to be a Reconnaissance Soldier in our team. Her father is a Reconnaissance Soldier, and she's very familiar with it. When you see her speed, you'll understand what I mean."
These people all bore a sense of national responsibility. If only Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng were to go, they wouldn't readily speak for others without others' consent, but now that those at home were going, the others would surely want to join if they knew.
Moreover, this time there might be an opportunity for merit. Afterward, these two individuals could advance in their respective departments. Although they were not very interested in fame and wealth, if there were no accidents, they might live at Mount Everest Base in the future. Having a higher status and more recognition would definitely be beneficial for their future.
Gu Pan was easygoing due to owning her Space, but others still had ambitions, so she wanted to give everyone a chance to succeed.
When Zheng Zhan heard about Feng Zhekai, he didn't have much of a reaction, but when he heard about Fang Lanlan, his eyes lit up, "I'll have someone invite these two immediately."
Now, they really needed such talent; conventional military tactics might not fully suit the current battlefield situation.
After he finished speaking, he sent someone to invite the two.
Once the person left, Zheng Zhan curiously asked them about some of their past experiences, like scrambling for resources externally during the extreme cold. These military people had always followed orders from higher-ups. In fact, after the apocalypse, they hadn't been involved in any wars, while it was Gu Pan and her group who had the richest actual combat experience.
Zheng Zhan was nothing like Yu Tianfeng. He had patriotic fervor and admired the strong; he wasn't blindly arrogant and was a very good leader.
As the topic was brought up, not only Gu Pan but others also became lively and began to talk about some of their experiences, which inspired many soldiers.
Of course, everyone had different roles. The military had the task of protecting Huaxia's civilization, while in the beginning, Gu Pan and her group were merely fighting for survival.
Either way, conversations increased, and they shared combat experiences with one another.
Soon, Feng Zhekai and Fang Lanlan arrived, excited by the prospect of going into battle.
After their arrival, Zheng Zhan remained curious about Fang Lanlan's speed. As a straightforward person, he directly shared his thoughts with her.
Fang Lanlan scratched her head, looking towards Gu Pan first. Gu Pan was the backbone of their group, especially for someone like Fang Lanlan, who, while not so introverted anymore, still preferred to seek Gu Pan's advice in social situations.
Gu Pan nodded at her, signaling her approval.
Fang Lanlan then ran a lap around the conference table, switching the positions of the water glasses on top, before returning to Zheng Zhan.
Zheng Zhan was stunned; he knew of special departments and talents but had never seen someone with such a gift.
He said, "When we return, I will definitely request from the higher-ups to transfer you over."
Fang Lanlan looked back at Gu Pan.
Gu Pan smiled and said to Zheng Zhan, "She's shy, but if there's a good opportunity for advancement, we're naturally willing."
Zheng Zhan said, "Such talent deserves a better stage."
After talking some more, someone reported that their equipment had arrived.
Zheng Zhan led them to another room, where clothes, equipment, and weapons were laid out on a table. He addressed everyone, "Get accustomed to the military gear. It might be different from what you've used before."
