Sky-cracking Rider

Chapter 76: Section 76 - A Drenched Chicken

Seeing the crowd ahead, Chen Fei was scared out of his wits and quickly shouted.

"Stop, stop!"

The giant Blade Wing suddenly spread out, giving the illusion of blotting out the sun, with the Sharp Edges glistening coldly in the sunlight.

A gust of wind surged, sending tons of creek water flying into the air, constantly splitting and then falling back down like rain, as if a torrential downpour had started.

Though the female Metallic Dragon had braked in time, she still slid a good hundred meters before finally coming to a stop more than ten meters in front of Teacher Shen Fei and her students.

The sudden gust and downpour caught the teachers and students on the shore off guard. Only a few first-year students who were setting up tents were lucky enough to avoid the calamity. The crystal-clear creek water became murky, and at least a dozen fish were thrown onto the shore, struggling in their death throes.

Yilan was a well-educated lady, who would never casually harm the life of an Intelligent Species.

"Ah..."

Chen Fei, whose momentum hadn't subsided, was thrown into a puddle in front of the Metallic Dragon by the rope, splashing water everywhere, though with much less fanfare.

It almost knocked the breath out of him.

"It's a Dragon Knight!"

The drenched girls screamed without a care, their voices piercing.

Had they seen only the dragon and not the person, they would've been scared witless, fleeing in all directions.

But they saw not only the person but also the rope, so... it was all good, no worries – it was a Dragon Rider, after all.

A Dragon Rider my ass!

After swallowing a few mouthfuls of water, Chen Fei emerged from the puddle with a forlorn face.

Finally, the rope was loosened, and he was saved!

"Chirp!~"

The Pure Light Sparrow flitted across the water's surface, seemingly unaffected by the turmoil.

"Installation progress>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>…99%…"

Downloaded files: 17093 (19.4GB)/17174 (19.5GB), current connection speed 112KB/s.

"Chen Fei?"

Teacher Shen Fei was astounded. She hadn't seen him for just two days, and now he was messing with dragons.

They hurriedly, and with much fumbling, pulled Chen Fei out of the pit.

"Hey, Teacher Shen, pfft!"

Chen Fei spat out a mouthful of water and greeted her feebly, completely drained of the strength to even lift his hand.

It was terrifying beyond words, an experience too intense for words.

"Installation progress>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>…100%…"

Downloaded files: 17174 (19.5GB)/17174 (19.5GB), download complete.

Ding!~

Installation begins...>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

End!

Installation complete!

The system will automatically restart after 15 seconds or manually reboot.

Eh?!

Chen Fei belatedly realized that his vision had changed at some point. He had thought it would take decades for the progress bar to complete, yet somehow it had raced to the finish line.

What kind of miraculous speed was this?

"Chen Fei, what is this…"

Teacher Shen Fei looked unbelievingly at the Metallic Dragon frolicking in the nearby creek water, then at Chen Fei.

"Teacher Shen, let me pass out for a moment!"

He really couldn't hold on any longer.

ReStart...

He closed his eyes, then opened them again.

System startup!

"Er! Teacher Shen, how long did I pass out?"

Chen Fei noticed a small icon with text, "My System," in the upper left corner of his vision.

What's this thing?

DOS system upgraded to a graphical interface, but why wasn't it Windows?

Teacher Shen Fei said irritably, "You didn't faint, you just blinked your eyes."

In the blink of an eye, Chen Fei's voice was full of vigor as if nothing had happened, lacking the weakness from before, allowing her to finally relax.

"I finally survived!"

Chen Fei exhaled a long sigh of relief.

He didn't care why blinking his eyes had completed the system startup. He hoped this unnecessary thing wouldn't bother him.

Isn't instant startup good enough?

"Chen Fei, what happened?"

Teacher Shen Fei, who had helped fish Chen Fei out of the water, had also become a drowned rat.

"It's a long story!"

Chen Fei tried to sit up, and except for the fact that his body ached terribly, he felt as if his vitality and spirit were instantly fully rejuvenated, and his strength had returned.

Did that so-called "My System" actually have such benefits after its installation?

"Chen Fei, there are fish in the water, lots of fish, look quickly!"

The female metallic dragon suddenly sprang out of the water, her body adorned with seven or eight fish of various sizes, excitedly showing them off to Chen Fei.

Could a little lady dive headfirst without any regard for her image?

She couldn't!

So what was splashing around in the creek?

A giant dragon!

No matter how well-behaved she usually seemed, the moment she was left unsupervised, her true nature would emerge.

"I see them, I see them, there are even more on the shore."

Chen Fei nodded perfunctorily and turned his gaze to see at least a dozen fish that the waves had tossed onto the bank.

Those hanging on the body of Yilan were merely the ones that escaped her grasp earlier; only now could you truly say she had caught them all.

As expected of the Dragon of Slaughter, wherever she passed, everything turned to ruin, not a single blade of grass would grow.

"Her name is Yilan, as you can see, she's a metallic dragon, ah! It's really quite troublesome!"

After introducing her, Chen Fei exchanged a look with the seemingly formidable Teacher Shen Fei and let out another long sigh.

Earning ten thousand Star Yuan a day really wasn't easy.

"Chirp!~"

The ever-loyal Pure Light Sparrow landed on Chen Fei's shoulder, bouncing around cheerfully.

Teacher Shen Fei, seeing this little bird unafraid of strangers, with its shiny black feathers that looked somewhat familiar, surprisingly exclaimed, "Xiao Jiu?"

"That's right, come on, say hello to Teacher Shen!"

Chen Fei beckoned, and Xiao Jiu obediently perched on his hand.

Then, it flew to Teacher Shen Fei's shoulder, acting very friendly and making itself utterly adorable with its bouncing around.

"Xiao Jiu is so well-behaved!"

Teacher Shen Fei was thrilled. She wanted to pet the little bird, but her hands were still wet. Fearing she might dampen its feathers, she lifted her hand but then put it back down again.

"Achoo! Damn, I'm catching cold!"

Chen Fei couldn't help but shiver.

Although the spring sunlight was warm, the creek water was still quite cold. The adrenaline had kept him going in the water for a bit, and at first, he didn't feel the chill, but after a while, it became too much, like being in a frozen wasteland, his limbs growing stiff and the cold biting into his bones like needles.

Shen Fei also realized this issue.

"Right, be careful not to catch a cold, let's start a fire quickly. Light up all of the fires."

The sudden downpour caused by the giant dragon left many soaked, only the second and third graders who had gone out to collect firewood and wild vegetables, along with the sixth graders who were hunting, were unaffected. Many first graders who were busy setting up tents or who were standing far away were also spared.

The rest of the school children were more or less drenched.

Chen Fei, who had fallen into a puddle, Shen Fei, who had dragged him ashore, and a few fifth graders were practically dripping from head to toe.

They managed to light the gathered dry branches and rotten wood only after using up all of the solid alcohol blocks for ignition; although the green smoke was choking and irritated their eyes, the fire offered some warmth at least, much better than wearing damp clothes and waiting for a natural breeze to dry them.

A few people, wrapped in blankets, gathered around a fire to warm themselves.

Feeling the heat on her face, Shen Fei looked over at the metallic dragon still frolicking in the water and asked curiously, "Where did this metallic dragon come from?"

The rope was still hanging around its neck, making it hard to guess how it got there.

After all, it was a giant dragon, and one with a notorious reputation as the Dragon of Slaughter at that. Being able to put a rope around the neck of such a being was impressive.

Chen Fei shrugged his shoulders and said, "She is one of the two diplomatic envoys from the Dragon Clan of Cangqiong Star. The other dragon is still at the base."

A curious primary school student of Teacher Shen Fei asked, "Brother Fei, are you a Dragon Knight?"

The other schoolchildren were equally excited.

"How could that be possible?"

Chen Fei rolled his eyes. He wasn't even a Sky Knight, so how could he possibly be a Dragon Knight? Wishful thinking, nothing more.

If he really were a Dragon Knight, would he still need to toil away for millions of Star Yuan in debt?

"A diplomatic envoy! This one?"

Forget dragons; even among humans, Shen Fei had never heard of such an undignified diplomat. What happened to the diplomatic mission? This was clearly just playing around!

It completely defied her expectations.

Helplessly, Chen Fei said, "She's just a thirty-year-old little dragon, and I'm the unlucky one tasked with playing tour guide for her."

In the Dragon Clan, one wasn't considered an adult until reaching a thousand years old. At thirty, she was practically no different from a baby still in swaddling clothes.

However, this metallic dragon hadn't been wasting her time; Yilan was already in her senior year of high school, just the right age for rebellious teenage antics, so it wasn't surprising for her to act out in bizarre ways.

"So she swam all the way here, hahaha, and you even put a rope on her. Does that thing even work? I'm utterly amazed by you."

The quick-witted Teacher Shen Fei thought for just a moment and immediately guessed an answer not far from the truth. She burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Just imagining the scenes of Chen Fei's journey thus far was too much to bear!

"She put it on herself. What could I possibly do!"

Chen Fei, too, had ended up in quite the predicament.
