Chapter 187: Section 187 - Freelancing
The young white man, Steven Lockheed, still didn't have the courage to continue sparring with Chen Fei; he really feared that in a moment of hot-headedness, Chen Fei might just shoot his jet down from the sky.
Private jets are extremely fast, and in the blink of an eye, it vanished from sight, impossible to catch up to for the A-39B "Big Mouth Monster" light turboprop attack plane. Explore more adventures at empire
Teacher Shen Fei sat in the back seat of the cockpit, tightly hugging Xiao Jiu's spherical bird nest, unblinkingly gazing at Chen Fei in the front seat.
This young man had never spoken an empty word, he had truly sacrificed his life for her.
Not just anyone has the courage to entrust their life to another person.
The Lockheed who liked to boast about his family heritage had never caught Shen Fei's eye, despite having some real skill, which was based on his family's massive resource investment; he can't really be considered self-made.
Completely independent of family, how many second, third, or even fourth generations can successfully stand on their own?
Reality is often cruel, and it doesn't make much of a difference whether you're poor or rich; it's just that the two can withstand a different number of failures. According to probability, the more attempts you make, the easier it is to succeed.
As the tiny black dot in the cockpit finally disappeared from view, Chen Fei thoughtfully said, "Ha! Annoying guy ran away!"
The warning shots had an immediate effect.
As soon as the tracer bullets entered their field of vision, the civilian aircraft only had shivering to resort to, no matter how tough they talked, they couldn't be tougher than bullets.
Teacher Shen Fei sitting in the back seat of the cockpit smiled and said, "I'll have my father warn that guy; he won't come looking for trouble with you."
After all, the Lockheed family is one of the shareholders of Boeing Aerospace, and they are not minor ones at that; it would indeed be troublesome to deliberately seek out an ordinary citizen for trouble.
On home soil, Chen Fei's family has the protection of the Chen Family Gate; petty Steven, even if he wanted to cause trouble, would only dare to act outside the mainland and covertly try to give Chen Fei a black eye.
If he angered the National Defense Star controlled by the Chen Family Gate and the Vice General Manager of Northern Weapons Industry, Teacher Shen Fei, Boeing Aerospace might just have to sacrifice the Lockheed family to appease the public.
Chen Fei nonchalantly said, "No worries, let that guy come at me."
Even the younger brothers of the Chen Family Gate have been spun around by his spanking; what's there to fear from a spoiled brat of the Lockheed family? One slap, and guaranteed they'd cry for half an hour.
Teacher Shen Fei covered her mouth and laughed, "Alright, alright, I know you're not afraid, but Steven's petty."
"You mean my heart isn't petty? Let me tell you, my heart is this big!"
Chen Fei, in the front seat of the cockpit, lifted his left hand and made a gesture.
Truly tinier than the tip of a needle, almost impossible to see the distance between two fingers.
If he had a grudge against Chekhov Big Bear, it would definitely last a lifetime.
"Pffft, hahahaha!"
What a fool!
To even compare pettiness with that spoiled brat—Teacher Shen Fei couldn't control herself anymore, and the cockpit was filled with her joyous laughter.
Six hours later.
"Teacher Shen, wake up, wake up!"
Chen Fei nudged Shen Fei, who was sleeping soundly.
"Hmm, are we there yet?"
Shen Fei slowly opened her eyes and found Chen Fei right beside her, still clutching Xiao Jiu's nest snugly in her arms, separated only by a layer of the cockpit wall.
The A-39B "Big Mouth Monster" light turboprop attack plane had arrived at the Aircrew Base 911, now firmly stationed on the tarmac.
"We just arrived!"
During the flight, Chen Fei noticed Teacher Shen slowly fell asleep, so he was extra careful when landing to touch down in the smoothest manner.
"Thank you, Chen Fei!"
Teacher Shen Fei showed a smile, stretched, and then hurriedly unbuckled her seatbelt.
"You're welcome, who are we to each other?"
Chen Fei nodded and smiled, helped Teacher Shen off the plane, letting her walk a few laps around the tarmac to get the blood flowing through her body.
Since their elders are from the same profession, and they had incidentally met again at a social gathering, the relationship between them had subtly progressed further.
-
Now, Aircrew Base 911 had an additional large-scale Tricycle squadron, serving as a supplement for short-range support missions.
Since Chen Fei was carrying things to the end, he didn't just retrieve Teacher Shen's luggage from the Mobius Ring-type Space System Alchemy Storage Device and place it on the Tricycle's rack, he even personally delivered her to the school.
To fly a 20-kilometer trip takes at most ten minutes, Patan Elementary School is virtually in sight of Aircrew Base 911.
After returning to the base again and pushing the large-scale Tricycle into the hangar, Chen Fei received a message from Teacher Shen on his phone.
"Have you arrived?"
It was Teacher Shen's rare display of concern.
"Arrived!"
Chen Fei replied instantly, smiled, and put away his phone.
Extending the base's network there in advance proved to be a stroke of foresight.
After leaving to complete his leave formalities, Chen Fei returned to the shed housing the Target Low Temperature Nuclear Fusion Energy Tower, carefully placed Xiao Jiu's spherical nest, and following the operating procedures left by Old Master Barut, carried out a basic check on the Energy Tower—a part-time job he had to complete diligently.
```
The Target Low Temperature Nuclear Fusion Energy Tower, with its mature technology and high degree of automation, could still operate normally even if left unattended for ten days. The purpose of human assistance was to handle unexpected situations, as automated programs couldn't possibly deal with all circumstances. In the end, human help was still needed.
The cabin had been devoid of human presence for ten days, accumulating a thin layer of dust, but the plants inside remained vibrant and full of life.
Chen Fei had asked Chef Abel to come over every two or three days to water them; the plants didn't require much attention.
Knock, knock, knock!
While Chen Fei was wiping the dust with a wet cloth, he heard someone knocking on the door of the cabin.
"The door is unlocked, please come in!"
At the Aircrew Base, there were no thieves, so locking or not didn't make much of a difference.
"I heard you're back!"
Manager Hanna's shiny golden hair appeared at the doorway, and as usual, she was carrying two bottles of top-shelf liquor.
She was here to have drinks with Chen Fei.
During the days Chen Fei was not at the base, drinking alone was truly boring for Hanna Gagel, without even someone to talk to.
Now that her drinking buddy had returned to the base, she excitedly brought over the bottles of liquor.
Typically, one bottle was enough to get quite high. If that wasn't satisfying enough, they would open a second bottle. Both had fairly restrained drinking habits and rarely got drunk to the point of stupor.
"Wait for me a minute, I haven't finished wiping yet."
Chen Fei's eyes lit up when he saw the bottles of liquor in Manager Hanna's hand.
All the liquor she carried was of excellent quality, beyond the reach of ordinary folks – many brands which they probably hadn't even heard of.
"No rush! I'll start drinking. Do you have any snacks? I'll have Abel send some over."
Manager Hanna took a look at the small round table and the chair beside it, walked over, touched them to check for dust, and after finding none—apparently newly wiped—she sat down comfortably.
"How about some nuts?"
Chen Fei brought back quite a few delicious goodies this time, including several kinds of snacks for drinking, all vacuum-packed and long-lasting.
He wiped his hands with the cloth, pulled out a large bag of various nuts from his suitcase, and threw it onto the table with a thud before continuing to dust.
"That would be perfect."
Manager Hanna confidently pulled out two glasses from the cupboard, filled one for herself, took a gentle sniff, and said with satisfaction, "Eighteen-year-old X.O. brandy, distilled from original grape, aged in oak barrels for three years, and cellared for fifteen. It has matured nicely—this bottle was well worth the five thousand Star Yuan."
"X.O.?"
Already speeding up his cleaning, Chen Fei paused.
X.O. is not a brand but a grade, known as 'Extra Old' brandy, and a three-year stint in oak barrels represented industry integrity.
"Of course, don't hurry, take your time!"
Hanna Gagel held her glass, sitting back comfortably in the chair, picking up a cashew nut, watching Chen Fei's bustle with contentment...
Xiao Jiu was currently a feathered ball, still in the process of advancing in rank, so the warm, spring-like cabin, verdant with plants, lacked the lively atmosphere of cheerful bird chirps.
Savoring the occasional whiffs of alcohol fragrance, Chen Fei swiftly finished the basic cleaning, tossed the cloth aside, rinsed his hands, and joined Hanna at the table. He poured himself a glass of brandy without any pretense, took a small sip, and nodded, "Mmm! This taste... authentic!"
The high-quality wine glowed like golden amber, with an elegant fragrance, and upon entering the mouth, it felt like a gentle flame slowly reaching the stomach.
Good liquor should be savored; gulping it down was just a waste of fine stuff.
Of course, if you think you can gulp down the water of life, just try it!
"Glad you like it!"
After passing the liquor around and sampling a few dry fruits, Manager Hanna typically dropped a bombshell.
"In ten days, the 911 Aircrew Base will no longer be a subsidiary of the Apocalypse Defense Group. I've bought the entire base and all the employment contracts."
Only with someone as tight-lipped as Chen Fei would she reveal such news.
The plan had been in the works for a while, but it wasn't until recently that a definite outcome had been reached.
To accomplish this, she had sold off all her shares in the Apocalypse Defense Group, no longer a shareholder. Part of the reason was to ensure the smooth acquisition of the entire 911 Aircrew Base, and partly it was to cut ties with the Apocalypse Defense Group.
Without the hindrance of the Apocalypse Defense Group holding it back, the 911 Aircrew Base could become a formidable adversary that others would fear.
The shoeless do not fear the shod; indifferent to life and death, ready to face challenges head-on!
Chen Fei responded calmly, offhandedly inquiring, "Oh! What's next, hang up the shingle, or…"
As long as he received his paycheck on time, he couldn't care less who the boss was.
Of course, having someone as cool on the outside but warm on the inside like Hanna Gagel as his boss couldn't be better.
"Going solo!"
Hanna Gagel raised her glass slightly as a gesture.
She had been preparing for this day for a long time.
Great rats, great rats, don't eat my millet! Three-year-old girl, won't even look at me. I'll leave you, going to that joyful land. Joyful land, joyful land, where I find my place.
