Chapter 119: Section 119 - Covert Conflict
The existence and responsibilities of the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee were actually meant to clean up the mess left by the great war of the Three Realms, which took place thirty years ago.
At the time, eager to stabilize the adverse situation, the Blue Star Civilization overused nuclear and space-based weapons. Although it did not trigger a nuclear winter apocalypse, it still caused irreparable severe consequences to the planet's surface and its natural ecological environment.
The full-scale invasion of the Third Era Civilization is still fresh in the memory of the sovereign nations of today. The catastrophe seems to have happened just yesterday, and no one wants to go through it again. Therefore, the natural extinction of the Neanderthal tribe's most aggressive elite warriors was the best outcome.
The discontinuation of the Secret Technique tradition does have its reasons within the Neanderthals themselves, but the shadow of manipulation by the Blue Star Civilization's people is also unavoidably behind it.
The sudden emergence of an unexpected "variable" has probably made the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee the first to need to worry.
Another mage scattered a large cloud of dust while chanting incantations and created an even denser "Slumber Mist," which recklessly expanded within the entire Aircrew Base.
The billowing green mist swept over, and the employees of 911 Aircrew Base had no means to avoid it; they didn't even have time to find gas masks before falling unconscious on the spot.
The "Genuine Fragrance" Combat Flight Squadron, the maintenance crew, the control tower, the security team, the cafeteria... Two mages worked together, paralyzing the entire Aircrew Base with their spells, leaving everyone sprawled at their posts without any resistance from beginning to end.
In fact, the war spell "Slumber Mist" takes effect as soon as it is contacted, and it will work unless completely physically isolated; no kind of filtration system is effective against it.
After the mist had dissipated, more than forty ordinary personnel from the temporary investigation team immediately sprang into action, taking out small blood collection needles and one by one, collecting blood samples.
Within the temporary investigation team, the largest number of supernatural power users was split into groups led by four D-level ability users, who were wandering around the base as if looking for something.
The imposing presence of the onrush temporary investigation team left Hanna Gagel gnashing her teeth in anger, but she could only watch the other side carry on unabated. The green mist enveloped her, yet it suddenly veered off, wrapping around Chen Fei instead.
The female executive manager did not hesitate to activate her Wind-type Psionic Ability, trying to disperse the green mist around Chen Fei.
But as soon as she made a move, her Wind-type Psionic Ability immediately became bogged down, suppressed, and two different sources of Wind-type Psionic Ability were canceling each other out. The green mist was not disturbed at all.
Franco, the leader of the temporary investigation team, made his move again, speaking indifferently, "Manager Hanna, please do not interfere with our investigation."
The mist was still rapidly approaching, and Chen Fei hurriedly tried to evade, but he was already tightly surrounded by the "Slumber Mist" and could not escape. He inevitably became contaminated with a lot, even accidentally inhaling a breath of it.
Seeing Chen Fei's head-shaking, struggling demeanor, Franco, the leader of the temporary investigation team, had a scornful cold smile on his lips, saying, "Don't resist, resistance is futile, just lie down and rest!"
Even supernatural power users, if caught off guard by this spell, are likely to be affected.
Chen Fei kept shaking his head, trying to shake off the sudden dizziness that had struck him.
Him lying down would certainly be more convenient, but it would put Manager Hanna in a difficult position, fighting alone. If both of them stayed awake, at least they might prevent the others from getting their way completely.
Besides, he still owed 911 Aircrew Base money, and now the debt had been transferred here, with the female executive manager being the creditor.
Running away might preserve his own safety, but it would certainly leave a black mark on his personal credit record, with serious consequences.
"Magic resistance!"
The young man by Hanna Gagel's side did not fall immediately, causing a slight surprise among the members of the temporary investigation team.
The spell "Slumber Mist" usually knocks out its targets right away, and it's rare to find someone who can resist, especially someone who could hold out for so long—he was an unusual exception.
Ten fingers being connected to the heart, Chen Fei bit down fiercely on each of his fingertips, the immediate pain dispelling the foggy sensation. He bared his teeth and sneered coldly at those who were enjoying the spectacle.
"This thing doesn't work on me!"
He, like Manager Hanna, had no fondness for the temporary investigation team, especially since it was clear that they had ulterior motives for making a big deal out of a small matter.
This kind of condescension and scorn that seemed to come from a perceived height was indeed repellent, making one wonder where such a sense of superiority came from.
The so-called Neanderthal Elite Warriors simply did not exist, only the fools used by the Merman Brothers Consortium.
"To actually be immune to 'Slumber Mist,' what Superpower Level are you?"
Stay connected with M V L
Franco, the head of the temporary investigation team, finally gave Chen Fei a second glance, showing a hint of interest.
He had seen Metal Ability Users before, but never one who could resist the War Spell "Slumber Mist." It was his first encounter with what had previously only been a theoretical possibility.
Superpower Levels range from the lowest G to the highest S. Awakening to one's abilities is a done deal; whatever level you start at is what you remain. You cannot easily advance further. The strength of an ability can't be determined solely by level, rather, it must be assessed considering factors such as spirit power, control power, application experience, and resistance, among others.
"Super!"
Chen Fei's brain worked well. Naturally, he understood that his Superpower Level was another card up his sleeve, so why would he foolishly reveal it to others?
Besides, he had never even attended the official Superpower training courses; how could he possibly know?
Looking at Manager Hanna, Chen continued, "Mr. Franco, how much longer will your investigation take? Aircrew Base 911 is currently in the midst of corporate warfare. If we can't wake up on time, it's going to have a rather detrimental impact on our security. Since you want to collect blood samples, why go through all this rigmarole?"
Caught in the situation, Executive Manager Hanna Gagel was anxious and therefore chaotic. Even though she was aware that these people had ulterior motives, she could not speak rashly. Otherwise, once she lost room for maneuver, it would only make it easier to end up in a passive position.
As a newly signed official employee, Chen Fei could speak without taboos, letting the opponent's little tricks fly, while he simply retaliated with a heavy "Black Tiger Heart Extraction," bringing the issue to light and applying direct pressure. He did not believe they could continue to feign ignorance and play dumb.
What's a little shrimp to fear? Just spray them directly.
If these investigators had any shred of decency, they wouldn't continue to play dead in silence.
For all Chen knew, as he had guessed, the four hostile aircrew bases surrounding Aircrew Base 911 might already have a stream of combat aircraft ascending into the sky, swooping towards this location.
If, by that time, the victims had been beaten to death, with the citizens silent and officials unresponsive, the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee would easily be able to extricate themselves and stand aside, voicing what's right and wrong.
A member of the temporary investigation team immediately reprimanded loudly, "Boy, watch your attitude."
However, Franco did not take Chen Fei seriously at all and said in a relaxed manner, "Does the investigation team need your instruction on how to do its job?
I'll just explain one thing. If there are Neanderthals hiding among you, using 'Slumber Mist' can avoid unnecessary casualties. This is the best approach."
If one didn't know the internal situation, it was actually possible to be fooled.
However, it seemed off to need to put everyone to sleep just to collect blood samples.
"I want to file a protest with the Committee. I suspect you are intentionally interfering with the fairness and justice of the corporate warfare."
With a nudge from Chen Fei, the so-far helpless Executive Manager Hanna Gagel immediately seized the key point.
The temporary investigation team, flaunting the banner of the Global United Defense Committee, acted wantonly. Why couldn't she also use this big tiger skin to fight for Aircrew Base 911's legitimate rights?
"The Merman Brothers Consortium is launching an attack on us—the assault is imminent. Can you guarantee they won't act?"
Since it was all conjecture without cost, Chen Fei directly escalated the situation, pushing the temporary investigation team into a corner, daring them to counter.
Executive Manager Hanna Gagel's eyes lit up, as she finally found her breakthrough, following up with, "If you cannot make such a guarantee, then I have reason to suspect you are using excessive measures to secretly assist the Merman Brothers Consortium, creating opportunities for their attack."
The temporary investigation team did not fully represent the Committee. Moreover, at this critical juncture, what was there to fear about offending someone? The situation, as bad as it was, could hardly get worse.
