Chapter 45: The Miracle of Life
Dumbledore sincerely believed that Chu Yang's fighting style closely resembled that of Godric Gryffindor, one of the four founders of Hogwarts. The great Godric Gryffindor had once fought with a sword in one hand and a wand in the other, using a combination of physical and magical attacks that sent his enemies running in fear.
Though Chu Yang had only beaten his roommates to the ground, his achievements, despite being of a lower level, were similarly impressive.
The more Dumbledore thought about it, the more his head ached. He sighed, "Single dormitories are a privilege reserved for prefects. I can't break that rule, but I can arrange for you to have a double room."
Chu Yang nodded in agreement, compromising and giving Dumbledore some face. He just wondered which unlucky Slytherin would end up as his roommate.
"Headmaster Dumbledore, you really should see this! It's simply amazing—the Whomping Willow responded to me!" Hagrid rushed over excitedly, gesticulating wildly as he described the miracle he had witnessed.
"As you said, this truly is a great miracle. For that very reason, we must protect this secret, or Chu Yang will be in danger!" Dumbledore said as he looked up, his deep eyes gazing at Hagrid, filled with a vast ocean of stars.
Hagrid, still exhilarated, was suddenly doused with a cold reality. He quickly sobered up and immediately promised, "You can count on me; I'll keep this secret safe."
"Thank you, Hagrid." Dumbledore and Hagrid walked a few steps forward, and Dumbledore extended his wrinkled hand, placing it on the similarly gnarled trunk of the tree, feeling the life it exuded and marveling at the wonders of life.
He had planted this Whomping Willow himself in 1971 for Lupin. Every full moon, Lupin would pass through the secret passage beneath the tree to enter the Shrieking Shack, where the howls of a werewolf would often echo, giving the place its name. Many years had passed, and after Lupin left, the shack had been abandoned, though the secret passage still led to Hogsmeade. Dumbledore had concealed it with a spell to prevent it from being exposed.
After a day full of shocks, Professor McGonagall naturally calmed herself and began to appreciate the miracle of life before her. She finally understood why Dumbledore repeatedly emphasized Chu Yang's importance, even focusing on him as much as Harry Potter.
This was a force of magic beyond common understanding, one that seemed to brush against some ancient taboo. Researching it, perfecting it, and breaking it could usher modern magic into an entirely new realm.
Professor McGonagall couldn't help but glance back at Chu Yang. In some ways, he was even more important than Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived.
"One grows more nostalgic with age," Dumbledore said as he patted the Whomping Willow, his voice filled with emotion. "It's no longer suitable for the school. It could pose a threat to the students."
Hagrid, thinking Dumbledore was going to destroy the tree, hurriedly explained, "But Chu Yang can control it!"
"Even so, it doesn't belong here," Dumbledore said, shaking his head slowly. Concern for the students' safety was one reason, but what troubled him even more was Voldemort.
Voldemort's return, whenever it might happen, was like an unpredictable bomb. Lurking in the shadows, he might sense the tree's anomaly and trace it back to Chu Yang.
Dumbledore could not let Chu Yang face that kind of risk. Chu Yang was not like Harry Potter, who had the protection of his mother Lily's sacrificial blood magic.
Given Voldemort's current state, Chu Yang's value was not inferior to Harry's, and Voldemort would go to any lengths to capture him.
Chu Yang suddenly suggested, "Why not move the Whomping Willow to the Forbidden Forest and have Hagrid take care of it? That way, no one will know."
There was no way Chu Yang would let the Whomping Willow go. It still had potential to be explored and could greatly benefit him in the future.
Dumbledore hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded in agreement. In fact, he was also intrigued by the current state of the Whomping Willow and wanted to study it further.
Hagrid was the happiest of all. The more he looked at Chu Yang, the more pleasing he found him!
As Chu Yang left, the nearly ten-meter-tall Whomping Willow stood up and walked toward the Forbidden Forest. From a distance, it already had a humanoid shape, and with each step it took, the ground trembled.
Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall took Chu Yang back to Hogwarts just in time for dinner. The three of them headed straight to the Great Hall.
At the entrance, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville were anxiously waiting. They hadn't been able to enjoy their meals, worried as they were about Chu Yang's safety.
Fortunately, Chu Yang returned just in time. As he and Dumbledore entered the hall, Harry's dull eyes suddenly lit up!
"Chu Yang!"
They excitedly shouted his name and rushed over to him.
Harry was so overwhelmed with emotion that he nearly cried as he ran toward Chu Yang, wanting to give him a hug.
However, Chu Yang, being rather straight-laced, found it hard to accept such displays of affection between men. He sidestepped Harry's embrace.
Then he dodged Ron's hug and, while at it, evaded Neville's as well.
Under the trio's disappointed gazes, Chu Yang spread his arms and embraced Hermione, the two of them hugging tightly before releasing each other.
"Thank goodness you're safe!" Hermione's eyes were red, having waited so long, clearly fearing something had happened to Chu Yang.
"Luckily, Headmaster Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall arrived just in time," Chu Yang said, his face full of relief, as if he had just narrowly escaped death.
Then Ron and Harry gathered around. Ron, feeling wronged, said, "You dodged our hugs!"
Chu Yang earnestly replied, "I was emotionally unstable just now, and you startled me by rushing at me. So I dodged instinctively. If you want to try again, I promise I won't dodge this time."
"Forget it!" Ron said, immediately deflated.
"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, how long do you intend to stand outside? Aren't your stomachs hungry?" Professor McGonagall said, her stern aura immediately silencing Harry and the others.
At her words, the young wizards stopped speaking and nervously opened the doors, entering the hall one after another.
Since it wasn't a special holiday, students typically left after eating, so the hall was often quite empty.
The new students from both Gryffindor and Slytherin had stayed behind, waiting for news of Chu Yang. Some of the Slytherins had wanted to leave but had been unable to do so.
Whether they stayed willingly or not, when they saw Chu Yang return safely, they all erupted into cheers.
"Due to Chu Yang's outstanding performance during the recent incident, Slytherin will receive twenty points!"
