Chapter 144: Chapter 95.2: Night Parade of a Hundred Demons

Seeing the caller ID, he picked up the phone. It was Nanami Kento.

"Nanami-senpai, what's up so early?"

"I heard you exorcised a Grade 1 cursed spirit last night?"

"That spirit was already injured. I just finished it off."

"You said the same thing last time!"

Chu Yang stuffed the hot steak into his mouth, exhaling to cool it as he mumbled, "Senpai, don't worry. Someone like me, a corporate drone at heart, will definitely run if things get dicey."

Nanami Kento paused before replying flatly, "Take it easy. Don't risk everything just for money."

Chu Yang was surprised. "Senpai, I never thought you'd say something like that!"

Nanami replied coldly, "You became a sorcerer because of me. I don't want to end up collecting your corpse and ruining my retirement mood."

Chu Yang nodded. "I'll try not to die. But seriously, did you call just to say that?"

"Of course not. I'm not that idle. You need to come to the school. Something big is happening!"

Chu Yang glanced at the date on his phone.

December 20, 2017.

Four days until the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.

The Jujutsu World had two schools for training sorcerers: Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu High and Kyoto Jujutsu High.

Nanami was referring to Tokyo Jujutsu High, where Gojo Satoru served as a teacher.

Jujutsu High was akin to Hogwarts in the Harry Potter world, though it also carried certain administrative duties akin to a Ministry of Magic.

Chu Yang's apartment was quite far from Jujutsu High—about a 30-minute drive. He had been there once before, brought by Gojo Satoru and Nanami to complete his sorcerer registration, which required a guarantor for mid-career entrants like him.

The school was located in a remote forested mountain area on the outskirts of Tokyo. Access was via a narrow two-lane road, where even a small mistake could lead to an accident.

No ordinary people ventured here.

After getting off the taxi, Chu Yang walked up the mountain path. Soon, he saw the ancient-style building complex, with Nanami Kento, dressed in his usual professional attire, waiting at the end of the road.

Chu Yang, also in a suit and tie, walked up to him. Standing together, the two looked like salarymen on a business trip.

"Nanami-senpai, can't you change your outfit?"

"You're dressed the same. Why call me out?"

As the two bickered, Gojo Satoru appeared, smiling. "You two always get along so well."

Chu Yang cringed. "That's a bit gross, Gojo-senpai."

Nanami frowned, saying, "You've always been annoying, but now you're downright intolerable."

Feigning hurt, Gojo clutched his chest. "Saying that hurts me deeply."

Nanami walked past him without a word.

"Being ignored hurts too, Nanamin~~~!" Gojo shouted dramatically.

"Enough! Even I'm embarrassed now!" Chu Yang chided.

"Alright, I'll stop for today," Gojo replied, scratching his head before leading Chu Yang inside. "I heard you've been very active lately, exorcising many Grade 1 spirits. Your evaluation's been revised three times in just two or three months. The higher-ups are under a lot of pressure."

Shrugging, Chu Yang replied, "I don't really care about the evaluations. They can do as they please. Stress might make them bald, though at their age, they probably don't have much hair left anyway."

Gojo chuckled. "You're as amusing as ever, way more than Nanamin."

As they walked, Chu Yang noticed many people, including students, teachers, and… a panda!

Chu Yang stopped and carefully observed the panda in front of him.

It was a fully autonomous cursed corpse created by Masamichi Yaga, the principal of Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Technical High School. The panda possessed an independent personality and emotions.

"Why are you staring at me?"

The panda, annoyed by Chu Yang's gaze, raised its fist as a warning.

"Because I really like pandas," Chu Yang answered honestly.

Hearing this, the panda immediately cooled down and, with an embarrassed chuckle, looked at Chu Yang with much friendlier eyes.

Meanwhile, two men and one woman approached. Among them, a boy with his lower face covered said to Gojo Satoru, "Salmon."

Satoru waved. "Hello there, Toge."

The other man and woman greeted him as well.

"When did you guys arrive, Yuta, Maki?"

"Just now, when you stepped out," replied Maki Zen'in, her shapely figure and confident demeanor drawing attention. She then looked at Chu Yang and asked curiously, "Gojo-sensei, this young man looks so youthful. Is he also a student at our school?"

Satoru shook his head. "Unfortunately, no. But you should've heard his name before—just recently, you asked me about him."

Maki pondered for a moment. Her pupils suddenly contracted as she exclaimed in shock, "He's the one who eliminated five Grade 1 curses within a month?! His name was... uh..."

"Yang!" Satoru gestured dramatically, raising his voice. "This rising star of the Jujutsu world is called Yang!"

Satoru's booming declaration attracted the attention of everyone nearby, all of whom turned their eyes toward Chu Yang.

The rumors about this genius sorcerer, who had entered the field mid-career, had long spread across the Jujutsu world. People were curious about this young man.

For a moment, the looming threat of the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons seemed insignificant as everyone started discussing Chu Yang.

Ignoring Satoru's antics, Maki fixed her intense gaze on Chu Yang and asked, "I heard you rely solely on martial arts when exorcising curses. Is that true?"

Chu Yang smiled. "I had no choice. I'm new to this and not proficient in using cursed techniques yet. I can only rely on my physical skills to make a living."

"Make a living with your body..."

Several people twitched at his words. Becoming a Grade 1 sorcerer within a few months? That didn't seem like an easy way to 'make a living.' Why couldn't others do the same?

Maki lowered her voice. "Could we spar later?"

Scratching his head, Chu Yang replied, "Better not. I need to conserve energy for my mission, and this one seems tricky."

Maki grew anxious. Born without an innate cursed technique, her cursed energy level was as low as an ordinary person's. She couldn't even see curses without the help of cursed tools.

Unlike Toji Fushiguro's zero cursed energy 'Heavenly Restriction,' Maki's 'Heavenly Restriction' wasn't pure. While her physical abilities far surpassed normal humans, they were not on Toji's monstrous level.

Moreover, Maki lacked Toji's high resistance to curses.

Her options for improvement were limited: collect powerful cursed tools or strengthen her martial arts. Very few sorcerers were qualified to guide her in physical techniques, as she herself was already a martial arts master.

Gojo Satoru's immense strength operated on an entirely different level, unrelated to martial arts techniques, so he couldn't help her.

Chu Yang's current combat style, however, was exactly what Maki aspired to emulate.

Even a single sparring match with him could offer her significant insights.

"It won't take much of your time!" Maki said earnestly, almost pleading.

"Please help Maki-senpai," Yuta Okkotsu added sincerely.

Toge Inumaki bowed deeply in agreement.

After much internal debate, Panda hesitantly said, "If you agree, I'll let you pet my fur. It's really soft!"

Chu Yang flatly refused, "No thanks. I'm not interested in your fur."

Maki shot a fierce glare at Panda, who laughed sheepishly and fell silent.

"Just one match, Little Yang Yang~~~"

At some point, Gojo Satoru had snuck behind Chu Yang. Leaning close to his ear, he whispered, "I also want to gauge your current strength. If you think Maki isn't challenging enough, I wouldn't mind sparring with you myself..."

Everyone present was stunned by his suggestion.

Satoru casually slung an arm over Chu Yang's shoulder, making an outrageous offer with an air of nonchalance.

Shrugging it off, Chu Yang retorted, "If I spar with you, I'll need months to recover. Do you know how much money I could earn in those months?"

Satoru sighed, holding his forehead in mock despair. "Nanami's definitely corrupted you. All you care about is money."

"Unlike you, born into a prominent family, you have no idea how hard it is to earn a living. If not for money, why would I be doing this? Charity work?"

Satoru raised his hands in surrender, stepping back under Chu Yang's relentless rebuttal. However, he suddenly remembered a phrase from an old friend:

"Jujutsu sorcerers exist to protect non-sorcerers."

Looking at Chu Yang, Satoru burst into laughter. "I'm so glad you're just a mid-career sorcerer. Experiencing society's dark side has kept you from clinging to naive ideals."

"And without any lofty beliefs, you'd never spiral into extremism due to disillusionment. All you care about is money..."

"Hahaha!"

Chu Yang couldn't tell if he was being praised or mocked.

"Gojo-sensei, that's not a very nice thing to say," Yuta Okkotsu cautioned timidly.

"It's fine. This guy has a strong mental fortitude. Don't underestimate mid-career professionals!" Satoru replied with exaggerated righteousness.

Chu Yang's hand itched momentarily, but he decided to restrain himself until he could fully master Black Flash.

Satoru's laughter soon attracted a tall, stern-faced middle-aged man.

"Gojo Satoru, quiet down! The meeting is about to begin!"

"Students, don't linger here. Today's meeting doesn't concern you!"

The man's imposing demeanor and attitude toward Satoru made his identity clear: Masamichi Yaga, principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High.

As a rare master of cursed corpse creation, Masamichi Yaga was a Grade 1 sorcerer whose importance rivaled even Special Grade sorcerers.

He had also created Panda, the fully autonomous cursed corpse.

Had he not claimed Panda's creation was accidental, Masamichi Yaga would likely have been designated a Special Grade sorcerer long ago.

With his arrival, the meeting officially commenced.

Maki gave Chu Yang a sincere look before leaving. Left with no choice, he reluctantly agreed to her request.

Satoru, ever the troublemaker, clapped enthusiastically, only to receive a sharp glare from Masamichi Yaga.

Sorcerers invited to the meeting filed into the conference room. When Chu Yang entered, Masamichi glanced at him, his expression tinged with reminiscence.

The last time they met, Satoru had brought Chu Yang to register as a sorcerer. Initially skeptical of Chu Yang, Masamichi had approved him only under Satoru's strong recommendation.

This skepticism reflected the broader attitude of the Jujutsu world toward non-alumni of Jujutsu High.

After all, top universities rarely look favorably on vocational school students.

But Chu Yang soon silenced many high-ranking critics with his actions, especially the arrogant sorcerers from prestigious families.

As everyone took their seats, Chu Yang sat next to Kento Nanami, while Gojo Satoru leaned casually in a corner, his carefree demeanor unchanging.

The meeting was hosted by Kiyotaka Ijichi, responsible for Jujutsu High's post-mission support. Behind him hung a board filled with data about Suguru Geto, the mastermind behind the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.

Suguru Geto had been a student at Jujutsu High and a peer of Gojo Satoru, the two once hailed as the strongest duo.

Geto had once been an exemplary student, firmly believing sorcerers should protect the weak. However, his encounters with humanity's darker, uglier side—more grotesque than curses—gradually eroded his beliefs.

An accidental discovery from Special Grade sorcerer Yuki Tsukumo about the origin of curses had pushed him over the edge.
