Chapter 109: What Truly Is Glory_4

Gu Ji's face was grim.

"I have only one question: both accidents were caused by overloaded storage tanks. You mentioned before that it's the off-season for BASF Factory production and sales. Why schedule the production of so many chemicals?"

"Isn't it okay if they don't sell?"

Just as Goring was retorting, several military vehicles and troop transport trucks suddenly approached from the right rear, coming from the direction of the accident site.

The vehicle doors opened.

Several officer leaders stepped out, with the leader of the group being tall and thin, dressed in a gray-green suit military uniform, red stripes around his sleeves, and his features appearing somewhat sinister.

He held a handkerchief over his mouth and nose, calmly walking up to the group.

Goring, upon seeing him, shouted desperately as if seeing a savior:

"Captain Redland, save me!"

"Who here is Herman?"

The officer only glanced at Goring and then continued scanning the group like a hyena, fixing his gaze on Gu Ji and the others.

"I am."

Gu Ji's eyelids half-lowered, spotting the Labor Inspector among those behind the officer.

The officer put down the handkerchief, gently stroking the cross on his collar, shaking his head.

"What a pity, I am Captain Redland of the 3rd Battalion of the Schutzstaffel Rein Team. We received intelligence that an officer named Herman disobeyed the empire's will and commands, promoting evil ideologies in public!"

"I am Luca, the Tank Commander of the 1st Guard Banner. Perhaps there's been a misunderstanding."

Luca's face changed, quickly stepping between Gu Ji and Redland.

The name of the 1st Guard Banner indeed commanded respect.

Redland immediately straightened up, regarding Luca with respect, but soon beckoned him, "Lieutenant Luca, I advise you not to meddle."

As he spoke, another soldier jumped out of the vehicle.

It was Eugen!

The Labor Inspector patted Eugen's shoulder with an air of confidence: "Eugen, tell them what you saw again!"

"I, I..."

Eugen was hesitant to look up at Gu Ji but faced with the pressure from the Schutzstaffel, he finally straightened his back, shouting loudly:

"Sergeant Herman publicly voiced some evil statements and during the accident rescue process, he equated the great Hans nation with those lowly people!"

"Damn you, Eugen! I've mentored you like my own brother for a year, and this is the betrayal you repay me with?"

Mr. Ler immediately exploded and was about to charge forward.

But with just one look from Redland, two Schutzstaffel soldiers raised their guns, aiming at his head.

Eugen, as if transported back to the battlefield, had a flash of madness in his eyes, "Sergeant Ler, you indeed once treated me well, but now, you've been brainwashed by Herman's evil words."

"A mere first-class private, just a few years older than me, yet possessing so much knowledge and skill — I see now he's a sleeper agent from Bear Country, sent to undermine us from within! Fortunately, I came to my senses in time!"

"So you're in league with Herman too?"

Redland raised an eyebrow, waving his hand, "Take both of them away!"

Watching Goring return to the vehicle with a face full of smugness, Ler felt his beliefs crumble entirely at that moment, letting out a self-mocking laugh:

"Hahaha... I enlisted back in '36, dedicated seven years to the empire, defeated six enemy tanks on the Western Front, and yet I'm undone by a devious businessman who harms the nation's people. Damn it, if I die, I'm taking you down with me!"

"Ler!"

"Ler!!"

Gu Ji and Luca simultaneously gasped, trying to stop him, but it was already too late. Just as Ler raised his gun, several Schutzstaffel members pulled their triggers.

Bang bang bang—!

Blood drifted in the air of this smokeless battlefield.

Ler did not die on the battlefield.

But instead;

At the hands of his own.
