Chapter 357.
At this moment, the red gleam in Hu Liena's eyes locked onto the snake's gaze, freezing it momentarily. Tang San seized the opportunity, and a purple divine light flashed from his skull, striking the creature's head directly. With this, the three Crimson Flame Serpent were finally defeated.
Using his sharp blade, Wang Feng landed gracefully, radiating a sense of cool detachment and indifference.
"How are you both holding up?" he asked, glancing at Tang San and Hu Liena.
This was the fifth wave of attacks they'd faced. Tang San and Hu Liena were already drenched in sweat, their faces pale from exhaustion, each having expended close to 20% of their remaining soul power.
"Nothing serious…" Tang San replied between heavy breaths. A flicker of scarlet glint crossing his gaze.
"Luckily, you took out the Crimson Flame Serpent quickly. Otherwise, we might have been stranded with no way forward."
He glanced at the White Death beside him. Wang Feng's expression was serene, his robes as spotless as ever, and his composed demeanor filled Tang San with awe. The skill Wang Feng had displayed was beyond Tang San's imagination.
Tang San, with his exceptional mental power and mastery of hidden weapons, understood just how dangerous and precise those attacks had been. A single misstep would have sent him plummeting into the blood pool below. Only someone with immense confidence and precision could attempt such a maneuver.
"My soul power's down to about just 30%," Tang San muttered, looking ahead at the endless path.
Was this truly the road to hell? The constant attacks, the searing heat, the suffocating tension—it felt as though there was no end in sight. His resolve wavered momentarily, but he quickly steeled himself once more. Who was he if not the protagonist? How can he give up so easily?
"I still have about 30% left," Hu Liena also added, taking a few deep breaths. Her energy usage had been less intense, reserved only for critical moments. The brunt of the close combat had fallen to Wang Feng and Tang San.
"The surroundings are becoming increasingly inhospitable," Wang Feng remarked, scanning the environment. "If we try to restore our soul power here, we risk absorbing the fierce killing intent aura from the blood pool below, which could damage both your spirits severely. That means… restoring our soul power will be almost impossible."
As they advanced, the energy in the air grew hotter and more turbulent. Wang Feng could absorb and purify it, thanks to his Meteoric Tears and Dark Angel martial soul, but Tang San and Hu Liena would face a serious risk if they tried. This was why each step became progressively harder—the inability to replenish soul power only added to the crushing pressure. And now, with the trail behind them mostly collapsed, turning back was not an option.
The trio fell silent, each of them feeling the strain. After a brief rest, they pressed on. Every hundred meters brought another ambush. By the time they faced the seventh wave, they were up against a 40,000-year-old soul beast.
Hu Liena, her soul power depleted to a mere 10%, was visibly exhausted, her entire body radiating a fierce, almost feverish energy. Tang San was faring slightly better, with over 20% of his power left. His Blue Silver Domain allowed him to purify the surrounding energy somewhat, though maintaining it was also draining. Even with Wang Feng absorbing some of the bloodlust around them, it couldn't prevent the damage from building up in their mind.
By now, Hu Liena was close to collapsing, and the blood pool lay roughly two hundred meters below them. The air was unbearably hot, at least around 70 or 80 degrees, Wang Feng estimated. If they held an egg, it might just get cooked in seconds. Tang San's Blue Silver Domain helped to reduce the temperature slightly, but even that was beginning to strain him.
"I can't… go on," Hu Liena murmured weakly. Her feverish body slumped as she gasped, "You two go on without me."
The sixth wave had already taken its toll, leaving Wang Feng as their sole attacker. The seventh wave had drained Tang San, whose only respite came from Wang Feng absorbing the surrounding killing intent, allowing them to hold onto their sanity.
Looking at Hu Liena, Tang San hesitated. He couldn't bring himself to abandon her after everything they had endured. She had played a crucial role, contributing at every turn. Could he really just leave her?
"Wang Wu," Tang San called, glancing at the white-clothed figure. "How much soul power do you have left?"
In eight waves of attacks, it was Wang Feng—the White Death God—who had been their main strength. Tang San doubted they'd have made it through even three waves without him.
"About 60%," Wang Feng replied nonchalantly.
Tang San swallowed in disbelief. How was it possible that he had this much left? His own soul power was nearly exhausted, and Hu Liena, a level fifty-nine Soul King, was on the verge of collapse. He couldn't fathom it.
"Then…" Tang San hesitated before saying, "We can't just leave her behind."
After all they had been through, the battles fought side by side, he couldn't bring himself to abandon Hu Liena so easily.
"I'll carry her, don't worry." Wang Feng replied, frowning. "The two of us can keep moving forward."
Without waiting for approval, Wang Feng moved to where Hu Liena lay slumped on the path.
"Okay," Tang San agreed without hesitation. His companion had shown greater strength, more soul power, and the capacity to carry Hu Liena.
"You won't make it even if you carry me," Hu Liena whispered weakly. "Kill me instead. Take my head and soul bones. I… I'll tell you a secret, something I want you to keep for me…"
Her eyes flickered with desperation. She wanted to reveal the secret of the soul bones, hoping Wang Feng might treat her people with compassion.
Wang Feng shook his head. Hu Liena's heart was purer than he had expected, especially from someone who belonged to the Soul Hall.
Although the consciousness of the Star Light Fox resided within the soul bone, it was deeply connected to her consciousness. If Hu Liena removed it, even if the soul bone remained, the Star light Fox consciousness would likely dissipate. Wang Feng fell silent upon hearing this.
"Don't speak nonsense," Wang Feng said impatiently. "Do you think your weight is any harder for me to carry than a few pounds of pork?"
Hu Liena: "..."
Wang Feng crouched down slightly. "Climb up yourself."
After a moment's hesitation, Hu Liena climbed gently onto his back. The moment she did, a softness filled her entire body, and his presence made her feel renewed. It was the first time she'd been this close to a strange man, yet rather than feeling uncomfortable, she only wanted to hold him tighter. The attraction was overwhelming.
'I need to stay reserved', she thought, biting her lip gently and resting her soft hands on Wang Feng's shoulders. Her slender legs wrapped around his waist, and her upper body pressed closely against his back, forming a noticeable outline.
Wang Feng secured her onto his back with a firm knot. Her softness would have been enticing to most men, but to him, it meant nothing.
Sorry, but trying to get a reaction from me? Impossible! I am firm when I want to be and unmoved when I choose to be. No woman can sway me!
He pushed all wayward thoughts from his mind. After all, his mind had been tempered by the Red Lotus Karmic Fire, otherwise, he might have been tempted. But now, he could control himself fully.
"Let's go," Wang Feng said calmly.
