Chapter 358: Chapter 355.
Chapter 355.
These were self-destructive flying insects, living no more than a few years but reproducing at an astonishing rate, thriving in intense heat. They detonated upon encountering enemies, unleashing an explosive force several times stronger than their own frail bodies.
The insects swarmed densely, filling the air.
While their combined power was weaker than the previous two waves, even less threatening than cannon-fodder soul beasts, the danger they posed to the three was terrifying. Each insect's explosion spanned a 30-meter radius. That might not seem significant, but a chain reaction of explosions could extend across hundreds of meters.
In this wave, Wang Feng used his blade to take down most of the insects, while Tang San's hidden weapon picked off a few. Hu Liena played a crucial role, using her charm soul ability to alter the trajectory of the explosive insects, minimizing the shockwave impact on the three.
Still, after the wave passed, the path ahead had been obliterated for over 100 meters, halting their progress.
"One hundred meters…" Tang San muttered, staring at the destroyed path with a furrowed brow.
Even if he used his Blue Silver Grass to throw two people across, one would still be left behind, and the grass couldn't bridge such a long distance. Covering 100 meters on foot was impossible for them.
Though Hu Liena had used her charm to redirect the explosions, the blast range was so vast that even hundreds of blasts hadn't spared the path ahead.
"What do we do now?" Hu Liena asked, concern edging her voice.
"The temperature's only rising, and turning back would be a dead end. But crossing this distance… I just don't see how."
They both fell silent.
"I could throw you over." Wang Feng offered finally.
He actually had two ways. One involved activating his second tier of his strength and retracting the Armored Black Thorns. With his immense strength, he could easily throw them more than 100 meters. But this would require absolute trust from them, even the slightest miscalculation could mean a deadly plunge into the blood pool below. And as the temperature rose, that pool seemed increasingly ominous—falling in, even with Tang San's internal energy or his consumption of two immortal herbs, would spell certain death. And who knew what other powerful soul beasts might be lurking down there?
"Do you… have that much strength?" Hu Liena asked, a mix of disbelief and curiosity in her voice.
Without soul skills, throwing someone over 100 meters was nearly impossible, especially with no stable foothold like on level ground.
"And if you throw us over, what will you do?" Tang San asked after a pause.
Yes, even if Wang Feng could throw them across, how would he get himself over?
"I have my ways," Wang Feng replied evenly.
Hu Liena and Tang San exchanged glances, still doubtful.
"Hurry," Wang Feng urged, his voice raspy but insistent. "The fourth wave could come at any moment, and who knows how many waves there'll be."
Hell Road's difficulty was surpassing Wang Feng's expectations—attack after relentless attack, each wave more perilous than the last.
"Fine. I trust you," Tang San said decisively after a moment's thought.
If this "White Death" meant to harm them, he'd have done it in the first wave rather than helping them survive this far. And with no other options, trust was their only recourse.
"Me too," Hu Liena said, turning to Wang Wu, admiration gleaming in her eyes.
Hell Road's difficulty had indeed been exaggerated, even more challenging than her teacher had warned. If it were just her and Tang Yin, they might have survived the first round, but would definitely could not have survived the second round, let alone enduring this long. Now, her respect for the White Death strength and mystery had grown even deeper. She was convinced he must have known them before they entered the Slaughter City.
"All right!" Wang Feng said. He moved into position with Hu Liena and released the rope from around his waist. Gripping Tang San's shoulder, he retracted the sharp blade, and his Black Thorns Armor vanished. Then, activating his second Tier of his strength, he prepared to throw both of them.
In an instant, Wang Feng hurled Tang San forward with an incredible force, sending him soaring in an arc through the air. Tang San landed safely on the opposite path, managing to steady himself just in time. He barely had a moment to process what happened, feeling as though he'd been hit with the power of a waterfall hundreds of meters high.
"Quick! The path is starting to collapse!" Wang Feng warned, moving towards Hu Liena.
He placed a firm grip on her shoulder, preparing to launch her next.
"Wait, Wang Wu," Hu Liena said, her face tight with concern. "What about you? How will you make it over?"
"That should not be your concern," Wang Feng replied curtly.
Without another word, he threw her with a similar intensity. His strength created deep cracks along the path, which now teetered at the brink of collapse.
Hu Liena, mid-air, managed to maintain balance by extending a five-meter-long fox tail lined with spikes. When she landed, the tail pierced the path, absorbing her momentum and providing a smooth landing.
Both she and Tang San now stood on the opposite path, watching Wang Feng as the ground behind him began to crumble.
"What should we do?" Hu Liena asked, glancing at Tang San.
Tang San shook his head, determined. "He's helped us, we can't just leave him here."
"But what can we do?" Hu Liena pressed, frustration in her voice. "It's impossible to help him over such a distance, and neither of us can fly."
"All we can do is stay vigilant against further attacks," Tang San replied solemnly. "I believe he has a plan."
Just as he finished speaking, the path beneath Wang Feng's feet began to disintegrate rapidly.
"What could he possibly do…" Hu Liena murmured, a hint of panic in her tone.
At that moment, Wang Feng sprang into action.
He took a few steps back, then, as the ground gave way, he leapt with all his might, soaring across the gap.
Hu Liena and Tang San watched, astonished. Was he planning to jump the entire distance on sheer physical strength alone? Throwing others was one thing, jumping himself was another entirely.
But Wang Feng had a trick. As he leapt, he summoned twenty sharp blades, arranging them in a trapezoidal formation beneath him, each positioned just a few meters apart. Lightly landing on each blade in sequence, he used them as footholds to propel himself forward, almost like descending invisible stairs.
From afar, it looked as though he was walking effortlessly through the air.
Tang San's jaw dropped as a single thought crossed his mind:
Can this really happen?
