Chapter 335.
Wang Feng glanced at the number on the token and felt a hint of nostalgia.
After a brief sigh, he ignored the black-armored knight and turned his gaze toward the distant Slaughter City. Without hesitation, he began walking toward it.
The city gate was quite large, but it wasn't too far away, and it only took a few minutes to reach. Several black-armored fighters, along with some men and women were standing at the entrance, appeared to be waiting to welcome newcomers.
Surprisingly, it wasn't a woman who greeted Wang Feng but a man.
He looked to be around thirty years old, dressed in a black robe, with a face marred by scars that, though disfiguring, didn't make him entirely unattractive–.
Seeing the token in Wang Feng's hand, the man stepped forward.
"My name is Wu Ming. Welcome to the Slaughter City," he said in a low, hoarse voice. "Over the next few days, I'll explain the rules of the Slaughter City to you. During this period, you will be safe."
After speaking, Wu Ming continued to look at Wang Feng curiously, as if puzzled by his appearance.
There were no openings in Wang Feng's mask, making him look like a faceless man. Coupled with his moon-white attire, he stood out too much—especially in a place like this.
"Wu Ming?" Wang Feng raised an eyebrow in surprise. "So, will you return ten thousand swords?"
Wu Ming blinked, then frowned, not quite comprehending the meaning behind Wang Feng words, shaking his head.
"I don't know what you're talking about. If it's a soul ability, you can't use it. The Slaughter City doesn't allow the use of any soul abilities. We all use the name 'Wu Ming' to welcome newcomers."
Wang Feng smiled silently.
"Alright, then. Tell me more about the Slaughter City," he said, following Wu Ming into the city.
The city itself looked small, with ordinary buildings and a floor that seemed no different from that of any other human settlement. The only thing that stood out was the peculiar people living there.
"Thousands of years ago, the Slaughter City was formed from a domain left behind by a level 100 peerless soul master. You've probably already noticed that you can't use your soul abilities while you're here. Even Titled Douluos are –unable to use them. To survive in this place, you can only rely on your own physical abilities!" Wu Ming explained.
"The domain here is quite peculiar," Wang Feng remarked with a shake of his head. "Although soul abilities are sealed, people can still use soul power, martial soul and soul bones. If the soul power and soul bones were completely sealed, then it would truly be the Slaughter City—where people rely solely on their most primitive physical power to kill."
"…" Wu Ming clenched his jaw, resisting the urge to reprimand this faceless man in white. Instead, he spoke in a measured tone:
"That's impossible. It would mean sealing all the abilities of a soul master…"
"Isn't that the point? To pursue the most primitive form of killing intent?" Wang Feng challenged.
"…." Wu Ming glanced at the faceless man in white, unsure how to respond. Somehow, what he said did made sense, and Wu Ming found it hard to refute his logic.
"There are no rules in your Slaughter City, right?" Wang Feng continued. "If someone wants to do something, they can do it here without paying any price. Just now, I saw people in the city receiving food for free, yet one of them ate something and died instantly. Obviously, even basic activities like eating are fraught with danger."
Wang Feng's perception was incredibly sharp.
After being tempered and fully integrated with his martial soul, his awareness of the energies around him and everything happening nearby had heightened significantly.
Nothing escaped Wang Feng's keen senses.
Life in the Slaughter City was perilous at every turn.
The Slaughter City accepted any soul master, and as long as they passed the initial test, they could enter. According to Wu Ming, the city was under the protection of the Great Slaughter King, though Wang Feng suspected this figure was more like a warden.
This city felt more like a massive prison, filled with countless criminals.
Those who entered were both safe and in danger at the same time.
"It seems you have a good understanding of the Slaughter City," Wu Ming acknowledged, shaking his head. "You know the basic rules, but the most important one is that once you enter, you cannot leave. If you try to escape, the law enforcement team under the Great Slaughter King, who are allowed to use soul abilities, will hunt you down and kill you!"
Wang Feng nodded thoughtfully. Even if he couldn't use soul abilities, facing a Titled Douluo who could still use theirs would be extremely dangerous.
If it were just an ordinary Titled Douluo, it would be manageable. But if it were a Super Douluo at level ninety-five or higher, it could be life-threatening even for him.
"But there must be a way out, right?" Wang Feng pressed.
This was the crux of the matter.
Wang Feng was certain that the place he needed to mark for his mission lay somewhere in the Slaughter City.
After all, it was a city, not some peripheral or inner region.
"Yes, there is a way," Wu Ming admitted, glancing at Wang Feng. "If someone can make it through the Hell Road, they will be able to leave the Slaughter City! Every strong person who survives Hell Road is given the title of 'Death God.'"
Wang Feng couldn't help but chuckle.
"Death God? Do they believe themselves to be superior to the gods by taking such a title?"
"No, it's because there is no exclusive god of death," Wu Ming clarified.
"…."
Wang Feng fell silent for a moment, then realized that there really wasn't a 'Death God' in the world of Douluo, even in the God Realm.
There was the Asura God, Evil God and even Rakshsha God but no one titled Death God.
"Where is this Hell Road?" Wang Feng asked, changing the topic.
He knew very little about the Slaughter City, so he needed to learn as much as he could, like a new player seeking guidance from a newbie village elder.
"You want to go to Hell Road?" Wu Ming looked at Wang Feng incredulously before shaking his head. "Impossible. It's far too difficult. Most of the people who enter the Slaughter City are extremely vicious criminals from the outside world. They come here because they can't survive elsewhere –and end up becoming the Fallen within the city. However, there are some special soul masters who come here specifically for training. I suppose you belong to that category?"
Wu Ming's experience with newcomers seemed more than adequate.
Wang Feng nodded; there was no point in hiding it.
His purposes for coming were twofold, first, he needed to complete his mission of signing-in. Second, he wanted to cultivate his Dark Angel martial soul in secret.
And the optional third one is that he can get the hyped Killing Intent Domain that was once stated in the original novel.
He intended to use this harsh environment as nourishment to develop his Dark Angel martial soul.
Right now, his Dark Angel martial soul was merely a shadow of its true potential. Apart from enhancing his own abilities, it didn't have many unique features.
Although it had evolved a blood pattern that gave it a domain-like aura, true domain soul abilities generally required at least a Titled Douluo level of power to manifest.
Wang Feng believed that his Dark Angel could eventually form a real domain, but it hadn't evolved sufficiently yet.
Sometimes, he wondered whether the seven blood patterns represented seven different abilities.
What would happen if all seven blood patterns were activated simultaneously? Would they create seven unique domains, layered one atop the other?
This was the primary reason Wang Feng had come to the Slaughter City.
"Experiencers like you don't take our Slaughter City seriously," Wu Ming muttered, shaking his head. "But it's laughable to think you could survive Hell Road. To even enter Hell Road, you have to win the championship of the Hell Killing Fields. And to win the championship, you need to secure a hundred consecutive victories!"
"In each battle, it's a ten-man battle royal, and only one person can survive each match no matter what. This means you have to kill at least a thousand people! And keep in mind—these thousand people are all also soul masters!"
