Siblings with No Life Get Summoned to Another World as Detectives

Chapter 49: Cataclyst

Yuki lifted her hand high, her fingers trembling as sparks of golden light danced between them. The air around her shimmered, until a luminous bubble of yellow energy swelled and enclosed them.

Then, with a sudden flash they were gone, leaving behind only a fading shimmer in the air.

Kai, Mei, and Yuki materialized in an instant, their forms solidifying out of the fading shimmer of golden light. The world around them snapped into focus — the creaking of old planks beneath their feet, the sharp scent of resin and aged wood filling the air.

They stood on a narrow, swaying bridge suspended high above the ground, the ropes groaning with every shift of their weight.

Kai looked to both sides, then his gaze fell on a huge, gelatinous egg. Its translucent surface pulsing faintly as if something inside it was slowly breathing. Sunlight spilled down on it, making the slick membrane glisten with an unsettling shimmer.

After that, he glanced at the surrounding houses. "Where is everyone...?" he asked when he saw no one around.

Yuki's eyes darted to the side, and she raised her hand to point. "They… they were evacuated after the egg fell," she said, her voice trembling slightly.

Mei's gaze dropped to the ladder dangling below the bridge. Without a word, she gripped the rungs and began to descend. Kai followed immediately.

"Where are you going?" Yuki called after them, a hint of panic creeping into her tone. But they didn't answer.

Kai's eyes flicked back to the massive egg one last time. "Do you think it'll hatch soo—?" he started.

Before he could finish, the ground trembled slightly beneath them. A deep, wet thud echoed as Cataclyst, sensing their presence, slammed its massive head against the egg's gelatinous shell.

"There's your answer…" Mei said calmly, stepping back.

Crack. A jagged line appeared across the egg, splitting its smooth, translucent surface. Despite its watery, almost gelatinous look, the shell fractured as if it were made of fragile glass.

Cataclyst shifted its massive bulk, turning slowly in a deliberate circle. Muscles tensed, momentum building like a coiled spring. Then, with a violent surge, it slammed its head against the egg again. Crack. The sound echoed sharply.

A second fracture spider-webbed across the surface, deepening the first.

Kai and Mei's hearts were already racing, thundering violently against their ribs as fear surged through them.

Crack. The sound rang out again as Cataclyst slammed its massive head into the egg. The fragile shell fractured further, jagged lines spider-webbing across its surface.

Crack. Crack. Then, with a final, deafening impact, the egg shattered entirely, scattering shards and sticky droplets across the ground. The barrier that had held it captive was gone.

Cataclyst emerged at last. Its pale pink skin glistened under the sunlight, almost translucent in places, highlighting the strange, pulsing veins beneath. From both sides of its face protruded three long, sinewy limbs, moving rhythmically as it breathed.

Cataclyst — the massive axolotl — stood before the brother and sister. It It opened its enormous mouth, stretching impossibly wide, jaws contorting in a way that defied nature. Then came the scream:

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHhHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

The sound ripped through the air, a piercing, high-pitched shriek. Kai and Mei fell to the ground, hands pressed desperately over their ears as the auditory assault assaulted their senses. Their screams tore from their throats in raw, unison terror: "AAAHHHHHHH!"

Blood trickled from their ears, dark crimson droplets staining the grass beneath them. The echo of Cataclyst's scream lingered, a relentless, haunting vibration that made the very air quiver.

Suddenly, the deafening screech ceased. Cataclyst's eerie, alien senses had picked up the faintest vibrations in the ground, honing in on the exact location of the siblings.

Its massive front leg lifted slowly, swaying with deliberate intent, and then, in a grotesque display, it detached from the body, landing with a wet, sickening thud between Kai and Mei.

When they finally regained some semblance of composure, their eyes widened in horror. The gelatinous limb wobbled unnaturally, pulsating as though alive.

Then, without any warning, it detonated with a violent force, the blast throwing both siblings backward, their bodies skidding across the ground as debris and sticky fragments of the limb sprayed into the air.

THUD!

The dull impact of their bodies hitting the tree echoed.

Kai and Mei lay sprawled, chests heaving, their hands scraping against the rough wood as they groaned.

Kai spat a streak of blood onto the floor, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. Through gritted teeth, he muttered. "That thing… it can't see…"

Cataclyst shook the place where its leg had been, and it regrew. It already knew where the siblings had landed, and its posture tensed, coiled with lethal intent. The gills sprouting from both sides of its head flared a sinister red, glowing ominously.

With a sudden motion, it spat a dense, spherical projectile, no larger than a clenched fist, directly toward them. The sphere cut through the air with a sharp whoosh, colliding with the tree above their heads. The impact triggered a violent explosion, the shockwave rattled the wooden bridge. The ladder hanging above them snapped loose.

The detached ladder swung wildly, smashing into Kai's head with a sickening crack. He staggered, dazed, clutching his skull as stars danced in his vision.

"Brother!" Mei shouted, panic lacing her voice — but the moment her eyes landed on Cataclyst, fear morphed into pure, blazing fury. Her jaw tightened, and a low growl rumbled from her chest.

Without hesitation, she lunged forward and leapt straight at the monstrous axolotl. Her fist shot upward. "SMACK!" she yelled.

Cataclyst's alien senses tracked Mei's every motion with terrifying precision. In a sudden, fluid motion, it spun its massive body and lashed out with its tail.

The impact hit Mei squarely, cracking ribs audibly under the force. She cried out as blood sprayed from her mouth.

The force of the strike sent her hurtling backward, slamming into a tree with a sickening thud.

"Sis…" Kai muttered weakly, his voice trembling with worry as he struggled to push himself up.

Cataclyst sensed Kai pushing himself up and immediately launched a volley of spheres in his direction.

Without hesitation, Kai bolted, weaving in a desperate zig-zag pattern to dodge the incoming projectiles. Each sphere collided with the ground behind him in violent explosions.

The barrage stopped—and so did Kai. His breathing grew heavy, fear building inside him.

Cataclyst opened its massive maw once more, unleashing a bone-rattling screech.

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHhHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Kai clutched his head instinctively, the pulse of the monstrous sound waves reverberating deep into his skull.

Each vibration felt like it was trying to crush his brain from the inside out, the pressure almost unbearable. His teeth ground together, and his knees wobbled as the raw, piercing scream threatened to overwhelm him entirely.

Cataclyst lazily stretched its legs and jumped several times, shaking the ground to sense vibrations. When it caught nothing, it stopped.

Kai looked at his sister and saw her getting up, but he signaled with his hand for her to stay down. Mei froze, staying still where she was.

Then it struck Kai. He looked at her, then motioned downward with his hand. His sister gave him a confused look, not understanding what he meant.

Kai repeated the signal, and finally Mei understood. She nodded and raised her hand. "SMACK!" she shouted, slamming her fist into the ground.

Cataclyst turned its head toward her, shifting its leg back and forth, preparing to detach it.

Kai saw the opening. He rose and sprinted toward the beast.

Cataclyst couldn't react in time, and Kai easily leapt onto its head, grabbing its gills.

Cataclyst thrashed violently, trying to shake Kai off, but he held firm.

Its gills glowed red, but for some reason it couldn't fire — maybe because Kai was squeezing them tight.

Mei saw the chance and ran at it. She leapt, ready to smash it with her fist. "SMACK!" she cried.

But before she could land the blow, Cataclyst spun and whipped her away with its tail, sending her crashing back.

"Mei!" Kai shouted, alarmed, but he didn't let go of the creature.

"How do we defeat it?" he thought, when suddenly the air above him began to shimmer yellow.

Kai looked up and saw a massive rock forming in the sky. He quickly yanked Cataclyst's head upward as much as he could. When the rock finally materialized and began to fall, Kai released its gills.

The gills glowed red. It filled its mouth, preparing to fire — but just as it opened, the boulder dropped directly onto it, jamming its mouth shut.

Cataclyst spun frantically, panicking. The sphere inside its throat was already charged.

Kai leapt off and rushed to his sister. He embraced her, shielding her from whatever came next.

Cataclyst thrashed violently, its massive body twisting and contorting. Then, horrifyingly, it began to swell, its pale pink belly flushing a deep, angry red. The sphere trapped inside pulsed ominously — and with a deafening roar, it detonated.

The initial explosion rippled through Cataclyst's form, triggering a chain reaction of smaller blasts that tore chunks of its gelatinous body outward, sending debris skittering across the empty lot. Each detonation sent tremors through the ground, rattling loose planks and kicking up clouds of dust.

Finally, with one cataclysmic blast, Cataclyst's remains were obliterated, carving a massive crater into the lot.

As the smoke and dust from the final blast slowly settled, the ground trembled beneath the siblings' exhausted bodies.

Suddenly, a figure leapt down from above, landing lightly beside them. Yuki's eyes widened as she took in the scene, her voice trembling with concern. "Are you alright…?" she asked, seeing Kai draped protectively over Mei, both of them unconscious.

Yuki sat on the grass beside them and sighed. "Thank you..." she whispered softly.
