Mizuno spent three whole months setting up his own laboratory in the basement of the Hokage's office building.

It wasn't that he absolutely had to research something, but he needed to cover up his brilliance.

Things like awakening the Sharingan could be explained away as a kekkei genkai once, but he needed a reason to appease the public for his future power-ups.

He found that experimental research was a good excuse.

The problem was that Danzo was like a leech, insisting on setting up Root's base next to his laboratory.

This led to him often encountering Sarutobi and Danzo discussing things together.

"I'm planning to select one or two people from the new graduating class to manage the lab. What do you think?" Mizuno asked Sarutobi in his office.

Sarutobi nodded in agreement. He rarely refuted Mizuno's opinions, especially since his mind was on Danzo right now.

"Danzo," Sarutobi said. "It's been three months since we dealt with Senju Mineshi and Mu. We can't delay any longer."

Danzo nodded. "Sarutobi, I've been waiting for your news."

Sarutobi frowned slightly, hinting, "Senju Mineshi committed a serious crime. No matter what his background, he can't be easily let off the hook. Chōza... died tragically."

Mizuno's heart skipped a beat. He didn't expect Sarutobi to actually have murderous intent.

Killing Senju Mineshi would be good, a warning to the Senju clan.

But what he didn't expect was that Danzo didn't understand at all.

"Yeah," Danzo said. "If he wasn't the son of the First Hokage, I would have killed him long ago. He committed too many crimes. I've decided to have Root keep him locked up, a life sentence."

Mizuno was shocked. Danzo, are you out of your mind? Can you keep this kind of person?

Sarutobi's face also stiffened, and he quickly changed the subject.

"Mu's contribution was great, but he's from another country, and he was the Second Tsuchikage. He's a dead man anyway..."

"Yo..." Uchiha Kagami came towards him.

"Kagami, how come you're here?"

Uchiha Kagami shook his head. "The fog is too thick today. The shifts need to be adjusted. I temporarily arranged a few patrol positions and came to get the Hokage's signature."

Mizuno nodded. He knew that Uchiha Kagami was responsible for security recently.

As soon as he finished speaking, several Anbu ninjas suddenly emerged from the shadows and disappeared into the building in a blink of an eye.

It was clear that they were starting to search floor by floor.

The commotion here attracted Sarutobi and Danzo out.

"Mizuno, Kagami, what's going on?"

"Danzo! Protect the Third Hokage!" Kagami said.

Danzo frowned, quickly standing in front of Sarutobi. "Hokage-sama, step back. Kagami, what's wrong?"

Uchiha Kagami said, "Hopefully, I'm just overthinking things. I'm worried that someone might be invading."

As soon as he finished speaking, the Anbu ninjas from downstairs climbed up.

"Hokage-sama, Kagami-sama, something's wrong in the basement!"

Mizuno's heart skipped a beat.

Did someone break into my lab?

But he was clearly overthinking it. There was nothing in the lab, so naturally, no one would want it. But next to his lab, in Root's base, two Anbu ninjas were lying on the ground, side by side, at the entrance.

And in the cage where they were imprisoned, there was no one.

Sarutobi pointed at the cage. "Who was in here?"

Danzo's face turned pale. "Sen... Senju Mineshi."

Mizuno was also surprised.

Someone actually came to rescue Senju Mineshi.

He squeezed the fog around him and made his guess.

"It's basically certain. This isn't ordinary fog. It's the Mist Hidden Technique from the Land of Water."

Uchiha Kagami bent down and looked at the two dead Anbu ninjas.

One of the ninjas was cut in half at the waist, blood splattered everywhere. The other was like a dried corpse, as if he had been drained of all his blood.

Mizuno instantly made a judgment.

It was the Kubikiribocho and Samehada from the Land of Water's Seven Ninja Swordsmen!

It was too similar. The death scene perfectly matched the style of those two swords.

Konoha's newly established system started to operate. All personnel were mobilized.

Uchiha Kagami's body flew high into the air, jumping onto the Hokage Rock. After a long moment, he suddenly shouted, "Follow me!"

With that, his body shot off in one direction.
