Chapter 32: Journey to the west
In a place littered with corpses a youth stood above them with a cold expression.
His dark eyes landed on dog like creature with two heads.
The two headed abomination lunged at the dark haired youth.
His leaped to the side quickly dogging.
Holding a sword in his hand he swung at the two headed abominations right front leg.
His attack was successful forcing the doge like abomination to retreat.
It's mad eyes targeting the dark haired man.
It then...
-Boom.
Before the creature could even begin its attack a spear tore through its side cleanly piercing its organs.
"Haa... haaa".
The creature was in immense pain its mind hazy.
Before the dog like abomination could pull its self back together a whistle could be heard.
It was as if something sharp was moving through the air at considerable speed.
Then...
-Plop plop.
The creatures two heads landed in the ground.
It's body limp.
[You have slain an awakened monster]
[Your shadow grows stronger]
The black haired youth stared at the fallen creature with indifference.
"No Memories... *tsk* useless".
He then turned his head and spoke.
"Thanks for the assistance Effie".
After a while a tall beautifully athletic woman appeared.
Her lips curved in a smile.
"Hehe just give me the meat dufus"
The young man sighed.
"It's Sunny...".
Sunny grumbled with an annoyance.
"Stop wasting time".
They both sighed their body's tired.
They had not taken much of a break ever since they set out towards the adventure to find the mysterious power that would help them defeat the bright Lord.
As such, they had to become extremely tired.
"If you want to rest make sure we have a fully built shelter first".
The voice spoke to them again.
The voice belong to Isaac, his body now covered in blood and guts of different nightmare creatures.
'Tsk pretty bastard'.
Sunny grumbled.
"Anyways we're almost there".
Effie spoke, her voice for some inexplicable reason felt more distant.
Their current destination was the catacombs.
Effie had warned them about the catacombs.
The undead creatures were almost impossible to kill.
They were creatures whose lives were controlled by an even more terrifying creature in the catacombs.
There was also the Lord of the Dead.
That thing was a Fallen Tyrant according to Effie.
Sunny shivered at the thought that they might encounter such an abomination.
'D-damnation why does he want to go there'.
Sunny knew Isaac was strong.
Stronger than most Sleepers.
Hell the bastard was able to contend with the Stone Saint in a test of strength.
Still a Fallen Tyrant is far too high.
Any how For the time being, they were safe.
However, he didn't feel safe.
Instead, he kept glancing at the distant axis of the Crimson Spire and shivering.
That thing was seriously way too ominous.
'Good thing we will be out of here soon...'
That was the only thought that kept him from falling into an irrational panic.
Their journey through the Forgotten Shore was about to end.
They had endured a lot and survived through a lot.
At times, he had not even been sure that they were going to make it out of here alive.
But now, all their suffering was about to be rewarded.
The path to freedom was already in their sight... they just had to overcome this one last hurdle to return home in glory.
...Soon, they were closing in on one of the mighty towers built into the wall.
The structure was round in shape, rising above the main embankment by a good dozen meters.
There was a wide wooden gate leading inside the tower, which was broken a long time ago, with only a few splinters remaining on the ancient iron hinges.
Behind the doorway, there was nothing but darkness.
Sunny felt that the sight of this entrance was a bit creepy.
Of course, darkness was nothing to him. And yet...
Suddenly, Cassie tugged on his shoulder, forcing Sunny to stop.
Isaac, Nephis and him turned to her, their hands outstretched and ready to summon their swords.
"What is it, Cassie?" Sunny asked, alarmed.
In some situations, the blind girl was able to recognize danger before they could.
Her keen hearing and sense of smell allowed her to sometimes perceive things that normal humans would not be able to.
Now, there was a scowl on Cassie's face. Turning her head slightly, she whispered.
"Listen."
Sunny held his breath and followed her words, straining his hearing to the limit.
Soon, he was able to discern a strange sound coming from inside the tower.
Chomp. Chomp. Crunch. Chomp...
Sunny shivered.
'F*ck you Isaac'.
