Shadow Slave (Guiltythree) | Aposle of Oath

Chapter 29: Drastic Measures

Isaac and Sunny had finally reached the inner city gate where they had planned to meet up.

Tsk.

Sunny clicked his tongue.

"He should already be here, the pretty bastard can fly after all".

Isaac said nothing.

He knew that Kai had gone in to change into something more suitable as he had been stuck in the well for a week if not more.

"Just wait a bit longer. We are not in a rush".

Isaac explained.

In Isaac's mind, a plan had already been forged.

He knew what had to happen.

Still, he hoped that I would not come to that.

After a while a handsome young man walked back to us looking refreshed.

Sunny seeing the scene couldn't help but whisper.

"...Maybe he should have stayed away".

Kai finally saw them and a smile bloomed on his face.

He then lightly jogged reaching us much faster.

As he reached us and began to speak Sunny cut him off.

"What took you so long".

Kai glanced at Sunny with a hurt expression.

"Well I needed to take a shower and change my clothes, good god did I have a stench from staying in the well for so long".

Kai said his voice sounding disturbed.

Sunny hearing this felt his brow twitch.

'This handsome-'.

Sunny then stopped himself.

"That was not all".

Kai said seeing the cute fuming look on Sunny's face.

"I also looked around for a suitable memory shop".

Sunny's ears perk up.

"You found one".

Kai nodded.

"Follow me".

As they were beginning to walk into the inner city a guard stopped them.

"Mr.Kai you can enter but we need a soul shard from the two visitors".

Sunny froze.

'Sh*t we forgot to get our soul shards'.

As the guard looked at the new arrivals his gaze landed on Isaac.

His body froze as his face turned pale.

Isaac put on a smile as he signaled to the guard to come over.

Fear consumed the guard's face to the point Sunny and Kai had taken notice.

The guard walked over with the expression of a dead man.

As the guard reached Isaac his eyes firmly planted on the floor as if thoroughly examining it.

Isaac then raised his hand and put something in the guard's chest plate.

He then whispered.

"Tessai".

Isaac said simply.

The guard said nothing and just stood there.

Walking past the guard he gave Sunny and Kai who were giving him weird looks a smile.

"We can pass".

Isaac spoke in a bright tone purposefully.

Sunny said nothing and turned around only sparing him a suspicious look.

Kai on the other hand scratched his cheek before giving him a shaky smile.

It didn't take long for them to reach the shop.

They slowly began to walk towards the Bright Castle.

Finally, reaching the stairs, they began to walk down till they reached double doors.

Reaching the double doors, Kai pushed forward with some strength easily opening them up.

Walking in Sunny begins to unconsciously scan the entire area and even commands his shadow to look around making sure there are no hidden dangers.

Behind the door, there was a medium-sized hall that had no windows.

It was illuminated by a strange lantern that levitated in its center, radiating a bright and stable glow.

Along the walls of the room stood various weapon racks, wooden mannequins dressed in full suits of armor, and tables with a wide assortment of beautiful and intriguing objects placed upon them.

All of it — the weapons, the armor, the objects, even the levitating lantern — were Memories.

Sunny felt a thundering thought explode in his mind.

For a few moments, he was only able to think about one thing...

'Money! That is so much money!'

Inside this unassuming hall hid a fortune that could rival that of an entire corporation.

He was barely stopping himself from drooling.

After a while, Sunny felt rather large shadows coming towards them slowly.

Sunny froze.

The shadow that he felt was rather big but humanoid.

' how big do these bastards get?'.

Sunny slowly, began to become more suspicious and more alert of the surrounding area.

Had they truly been ambushed?

Sunny stole a glance at Isaac watching his reaction.

Though Isaac normally never showed much on his face rarely changing his expression, Sunny could still tell from the small flicker in his eyes and the change of his stance what emotions or reactions he felt.

Seeing that Isaac was not particularly tense or even slightly agitated or even suspicious Sunny slowly began to calm down.

As the large figure slowly approached them, Sunny, finally got a good look at the person as the flames from the torches that were held by pillars began to illuminate his figure.

Seeing the caster of the large shadow Sunny flinched.

Sunny's reaction wasn't one of fear but one of surprise.

The man that was in front of him at the current moment was far from what Sunny thought any person of the forgotten short could look like.

The man was old by the standards of the Dark City.

He had a round face and cheerful eyes.

Apart from his extremely tall stature, there was one other special thing about his appearance, and it was that he was fat.

Sunny's flabber had been thoroughly gassed.

How the hell was it possible?

How the hell do you get this fat in such a wicked place like the dream realm?

Not just any part of the dream realm as well, but one that is known for being unexplored.

Granted this man must've been here a long time compared to Sunny.

Still...

Sunny couldn't tell if he was jealous of the man or repulsed by his figure.

"Uh... Sunny?"

Brought back from his covetous stupor, Sunny blinked a couple of times and glanced at Kai.

"Huh?"

The beautiful archer hesitated for a moment, then said.

"I was introducing you and Isaac to Stev. He is in charge of this place."

Only now did Sunny notice that there was someone else in the room.

It was a man who was old by the standards of the Dark City, nearing twenty-five or so.

He had a round face and cheerful eyes, which were currently full of doubt and hints of disgust.

His gaze, of course, was aimed at Sunny.

'Have you looked in the mirror, bastard?!'

Then after a while, he noticed something...

Why wasn't that bastard giving the same look towards Isaac?

Taking a look at Isaac Sunny, he could only curse.

'F*cking pretty bastards'.

Apart from his extremely tall stature, there was one other special thing about Stev's appearance, and it was that he was... fat.

He was the first obese person that Sunny had met in the Dark City.

Having a belly like that in a place like this must have required a lot of work, talent, and dedication.

He didn't know whether to be impressed or appalled.

In any case, Sunny decided to not get on Stev's bad side.

...He wouldn't want to get eaten by this ogre, after all!

"Uh... nice to meet you, Stev. I'm Sunny."

Stev gave Sunny a weird look before turning his gaze to Isaac.

"Isaac".

Isaac responded promptly.

Stev's gaze looked at Isaac approvingly.

Then he looked back at Sunny.

The ample giant looked down at him, then glanced at Kai, and said in a strange voice.

"Night, my dear friend, I understand this guy but are you sure this dirty vagrant is... a customer?"

Sunny frowned.

'Be civil... be civil...'

"Hey, fat bastard. Are you sure that this dirty vagrant won't break every bone in that fat blob you have for a body?"

In the dead silence, both Kai and Stev stared at him with wide eyes.

Isaac only looked at him with a blank expression.

Yet Sunny could have sworn his eyes had a playful twinkle.

Then, Stev leaned back and let out a thunderous laugh.

"This little gremlin is a funny one, Night! Well, good. Very good! If there's one thing I lack in this cave, it's entertainment."

Chuckling, he shook his head and said

"Still, my goods aren't cheap, my dear friend... uh... Sunny? A good Memory will cost you a dozen shards, at least. Much more if you want something really useful. Are you sure you have the means to shop here in my emporium? How many shards can a slum rat like you have?"

Sunny blinked.

"I think there was a misunderstanding. Have you seen me? Do I look like someone who would ever be able to buy something from you? Of course not! I've never even absorbed a single soul shard, that should tell you how many of them I have."

Kai gave him a strange look.

Because of how confident Sunny had been while traversing the ruins, he must have assumed that his companion was sufficiently powerful.

However, now he suddenly learned that Sunny had never absorbed any soul essence.

With his ability to sense lies, the charming archer would know that it was the truth.

Well, of course, it was.

He absorbed plenty of shadow fragments, instead.

Sunny gave away that misleading secret on purpose.

He didn't want Night to start questioning the amount of soul shards he was about to spend.

Letting the archer think that he was too obsessed with wealth to expend any on increasing his power would, hopefully, lessen the impact a bit.

Meanwhile, Sunny shook his head.

"No, no. Isaac here is the one who'll be handing you the shards. I'm just here to point him at the right ones. I have an eye for good Memories, you see."

By which he meant that his eyes were capable of peering into the very essence of Memories and discerning their true traits.

Yet neither of them needed to know that.

Well, Sunny had a weird feeling that Isaac knew...

Steve scratched the back of his head.

"Uh... well. In that case, take a look around. Ask me any questions if something catches your eye."

Then he glanced at Night and scoffed.

"You could have just asked me for advice, you know? It's not like I can lie to you."

Kai smiled with embarrassment.

"Oh. Ah... yeah, sorry."

Isaac stood there in silence.

He allowed Sunny to acquire the memories plus a few extras that he had picked personally into his soul sea.

Isaac occurred heavy steps closing on him from behind.

Stev had come close to him with a smile.

"That will be around 194 soul shards".

Stev said his smile seemingly more forced than before.

In his mind who the hell had 194 soul shards?

Before Isaac could speak, he heard a knock coming from the door which led to the memory hall.

'It's about time'.

Steve looked up at the door with a confused expression.

But before his thoughts could be completed, he heard the knocking grow louder.

His expression warped slightly before returning to his forced smile.

Moving his larger-than-normal body towards the upper doors as they slowly began to open.

His expression froze as he saw the man in front of the door.

The man in front of him had slightly blue skin, long, black hair that reached his shoulders, and cold icy blue eyes.

His expression was that pure ferocity.

It was Tessai.
