SHADOW SLAVE: A FINAL HOPE

Chapter 18: Chapter 18:- The Blade That Remembers

The black Shirisaya sword sat on the table before Fang Yuan, its matte surface gleaming softly in the faint light. The weapon, though simple in appearance, felt... different. It wasn't just a sword. It wasn't merely a tool, an object of war or defence. No. This soul-bound relic blade was something far deeper, far more intimate. it was a part of himself.
Fang Yuan's fingers brushed against the smooth scabbard, but no warmth came from the touch. There was nothing left for him to feel. Not anymore. His heart, once alive with passion, had long since been extinguished, and what remained was a stillness. A lake calm, without ripples, without a current.
He had killed her.
The weight of that truth had long since dulled the sting of grief. It was a truth that no longer consumed him, not like it had when the Nightmare Spell first placed the blade in his hands. No, now the sword was merely a relic of the past, a reminder of what was, and more painfully, what could never be.
Xie Han Mo.
Her name echoed in his mind, but it didn't stir the storm it once did.
There was only emptiness now. He had used to love her—a love so fierce, so consuming that it nearly shattered him after he lost her. But that was then. The man who had once crumbled beneath the weight of his emotions, who had bled for her in both mind and body, was gone. replaced by a man with a goal a man who has shed all mortal ties behind.
In his place was someone far quieter. Far colder.
Memory Rank: Dormant
Memory Tier: VII
Memory Type: Weapon
Fang Yuan opened his eyes and looked at the Memory Description that floated before him, written in a cold, lifeless script.

"Forged by the resolve of Xie Han Mo, this sword was crafted to carry his burdens through trials beyond mortal endurance. The blade hums her love and sacrifice, a silent promise that no pain could make her stop helping him. A symbol of devotion, it is as unshakable as the heart that forged it."
The words lingered in the air, but they meant little now. No, they weren't for him. They weren't meant for someone who had severed ties with love even his flaw wasn't making his feel anything anymore, who had destroyed the one who had so fiercely cared for him. It was strange how the sword seemed to carry all the emotions he had once had for her, yet now those emotions felt like distant memories—memories that had long since been forgotten. Love. Devotion. They were too foreign for him now, too distant to reclaim.
But even as he tried to shut them out, the sword hummed—a faint pulse beneath his fingers, as if it were alive. It wasn't just a tool, but a living thing, a relic of someone long gone. And that hum... it resonated with something within him, something he hadn't realized was still there.
Fang Yuan's eyes shifted toward the sword's enchantments, his gaze sharpening as he began to truly read the words.
Memory Enchantments:-[Unbent] [Unbroken] [Searing Affection]
[Unbent] "Forged in the flames of unwavering devotion, this blade remains unyielding, as steadfast as the love that endures all trials. Its edge is sturdy with the clarity of passion, yet its strength lies in its refusal to bend—never faltering, never breaking, no matter the weight of time or battle."
Fang Yuan's fingers lingered over the enchantment. Unbent. The blade, no matter the trials it faced, would never yield. Much like the woman who had forged it, much like her love for him. Unyielding. Even though he had crushed her heart and driven her to her death, the sword still carried her essence—her devotion.
the description didn't make it clear at the start but after some trials he got to know more about this enchantment's true effect [unbent] was linked to his perseverance or his will to fight the stronger his persevarence was the tougher the blade's exterior became even with its natural flexibility.
"Unbent," he murmured softly, the word tasting bitter on his tongue. He was familiar with perseverance—he had once worn it like armor, like a crown. And yet, the love that the sword embodied—this resolute, unyielding passion—seemed so alien to him now. The love that could endure all trials... Could he even understand it anymore? Did he still have the capacity for such an emotion, or had it been erased, burned away by his own desires? but he couldn't care about such emotions now it was a futile waste of time.
[Unbroken] "Forged in the eternal fire of devotion, this blade stands unshattered, its edge as strong as love that cannot be broken. Its strength lies in its unyielding resilience, never fractured by time or trials, a testament to a love that endures, unbroken and pure."
The second enchantment. Unbroken. It wasn't just that the blade refused to break—it refused to dull as well. Fang Yuan could understand this more than the first. He soul bound attribute made the sword link to him the more steadfast and unbroken he was the stronger the sword became'
It was a paradox. The sword was tied to a love that refused to die, even as he had killed her. Even now, as he stood before the blade, it was still bound to him, still waiting for him to reclaim it—reclaim her love. Unbroken.
But the thought felt distant, like a shadow in the corner of his mind.
[Searing Affection] "Forged in the crucible of burning devotion, this blade blazes with the intensity of love that cannot be extinguished. Its edge, sharp as the fiercest passion, cuts through all, its very essence a searing testament to a heart that remains unwavering, ablaze with unquenchable affection."
The third enchantment, Searing Affection. Fang Yuan was in awe with it the blade although was only a dormant blade was able to cut him like a paper mind his body was mended with [lesser demonic physique] which made it tougher then any awakened weapon he ever saw but its sharpness was unmatched as long as he held it.
He placed the blade back in its scabbard. There was a deep, painful ache that had begun to grow inside him—something he hadn't felt in years. Maybe it was the sword itself, or maybe it was the realization of just how far he had gone. The sword's very essence was tied to something that he had killed—and yet, despite all his efforts to bury it, this part of him remained.
Soul Bound Relic
The gone enchantment was the one that lingered the longest. Soul Bound Relic. His soul was now tethered to the sword. Forever. A bond giving the attribute [soul bond].
"A sword bound to the very essence of its wielder. The bond is not easily severed. The blade grows with the one who wields it, a reflection of their journey, their struggles, and their strength."
This was the most significant truth. The sword would grow with him. It would evolve, change, and adapt alongside him. It wasn't just a relic, it was a living weapon, one that would shape itself to his path. The soul bond meant that as Fang Yuan changed, so too would the sword—its power, its resonance, its strength.
What would the sword become now? Would it still carry the love of the woman who had crafted it, or would it, too, become like him—calm, detached, no longer driven by the passions of the past?
Fang Yuan closed his eyes, standing motionless in the quiet room. He was both the wielder of this sword and its prisoner. The connection between them was deeper than any blade should have, but he had no choice now. It was his burden to bear.
His heart remained as still as a lake, but in that stillness, something flickered—something far deeper than any emotion he could name. The sword had given him its final gift, but Fang Yuan wondered if the true gift had been the chance to confront what he had lost.
A sword forged in devotion. A blade bound to his soul. And yet, what remained of the love it had once represented?
"I cannot waver, not even with this flaw. The path is set, and it cannot falter, not from the very first step. And this sword will pave the way for my future as long as I persevere and grow strong this sword too will follow and grow stronger."
