Shadow deprived of life ( broken trust , a twisted smile )

Chapter 26: Issac's perspective.

I reached the police station before Aiden and Daniel. I sat on my chair and started reading Tristan's diary. Every sentence of that diary felt like a force, pushing me deep into the quicksand of my guilt and regret. I wanted to cry and scream, but I'm stronger than that. I waited for Aiden and Daniel to come.

Once they came, Aiden ordered me to explain Tristan's life story. I started to speak; I stuttered at first, maybe because explaining his story seemed like confessing. If I had to confess in the future, would I stutter? 'No, I won't ever confess,' I told myself.

Once I was done speaking, Aiden took the book from my hand and went somewhere. It was just me and Daniel. He asked me a question: "Why do you look so sad after reading that diary?" I shouldn't have, but I started to speak: "Perhaps... because..." And then there was a knock on that door. The knock that prevented me from saying anything forbidden.

It was a constable; he took us to DSP's office. Standing there, I thought about what I would have said: "Perhaps because it isn't his diary. It's a chapter of my sins." I was lost in thoughts when a girl came in – blonde hair and green eyes, "Ava". The warrior queen, the soon-to-be wife of Edgar.

I feel bad for Aurora; Edgar is going to divorce her soon, and he will then marry Ava. Ava and Edgar aren't engaged right now, but Ava tells everyone that Edgar is her fiancé. Why? I wish I knew.

Ava came into the room and didn't even spare a glance for me. "Good," I thought. I will finally get to see how the warrior queen acts. I have heard that she is too good and would do anything for Edgar.

When we left DSP's office, me and Daniel were sent to Edgar's dwelling. First, we found out where he lived, and then went there, undercover. We were sent there for 'security reasons', they said. Security? For the murderer? Good joke.

Edgar, the mastermind, was on a 'business trip'. Apparently, according to the media, he is not in the country. He tweeted that before the case started. Before he even killed him. A week before, I believe. It was something like "I am going on a business trip to... on... blah blah" and just like that, nobody thought to question him. Because he went on the trip 'before the body was found', but they missed the part that 'he went on the trip after the murder.' Cherry on top, he was at home and not on the trip. He is a villain, whose superpower is money. The worst and best power.

I wore an ash-brown suit. I told Daniel to check the back of the building while I took my chance and stood near the elevator, waiting for Aurora to come back. How do I know she is not home? Edgar messaged me. He said, and I quote, "Don't you dare bring the police into the apartment. For your information, I'm not at home right now. And neither is Aurora. Make sure she reaches the apartment safe and sound without being interrupted."

The universe was with me, because before Daniel came back, Aurora entered the elevator. My plan was not a rational approach, but it worked. I put on my mask and glasses. My hair covered the top of my forehead. I entered the elevator. She pressed the floor number 35. She was holding a shining pink purse with a blue keychain that had something written on it. I took the opportunity to whisper the warning in her ear. I am sure it sounded cruel, but I just wished to help.
