Shackles Of Reality

**Adam Walker's POV**

It's been a week since the asura incident and I had settled into a boring and monotonous life.

From my early morning training with instructor Blake to the classes and my bloodline training after.

Except maybe sometimes visiting the VR room.

Today was a sunny Monday, without realizing it, this was my third week in this academy.

It was after lunch and we were heading for the last class of the day.

Yes 'we', Owen and I. We had become buddies both literally and figuratively.

He just had one problem though.

"Am telling you, he got his ass whooped".

'He never shuts up'.

Right now he was telling me about how emo dude challenged Aurora to a duel after she rejected the Ashbourne's engagement proposal saying he was too weak.

Well the discription of their fight as Owen described "it was like a fully grown adult whooping a two years old' ass".

We got back to class where Ms Evelyn was already there.

She still gives me the stink eye every now and then.

"Alright class in the past alien codex class, we talked about a diverse number of alien races". Ms Evelyn said.

"Today we're going to learn about the ones in a friendly, neutral or violent towards humans". She continued.

"And let's not also forget those that are in alliances with us". She concluded.

The class was certainly interesting if you count out the number of times Ms Evelyn called me out to answer a question I know nothing about.

Questions like

-'why did the "Lykos" form an alliance with us?", Like hell I even knew what the lykos was. Or ones like

-'who was the first human to encounter the "Dextris". Another alien race which apparently I didn't talk less of the human who first encountered them.

Well long story short there were a diverse number of alien races in the known universe but humanity had only known about them in the last 3000 years.

After warding off the Asuras 3000 years ago, humanity started to look for other races outside the milky way by conducting explorations.

Eventually they came across many races, some were friendly and some were not.

The Lykos race which Ms Evelyn asked me about before were humanoid in nature, the only thing distinguishing then from humans being the wolf like ears they had on their head.

And also the ability to shapeshift into wolves at least three times their humanoid size.

The Dextris on the other hand were an aquatic race also in humanoid form except they had myriad skin colors, scales and also gills.

They live dominantly under water but can also survive on land.

Their home planet is about two times the size of Jupiter and it was 98% water with the land being almost non existent apart from a few small islands.

Both the Lykos and the Dextris races were in an alliance with humans against the Asuras.

There were also other races like the Omir and that are also in on the alliance.

The Omir were not a particularly powerful race but their achievements in technology is unrivalled in the entire known universe.

Their appearance were of ethereal transparent beings with different shapes and sizes, some were humanoid and some were not.

The races like the "Sharr'a" race that were chaotic towards humans the likes.

After the class I waved goodbye to Owen before going back to the dorm.

Today I wasn't going out to train,it has been very monotonous this past few weeks.

I relaxed in my dorm until it was 7pm when I decided to go out.

I called Owen and we agreed to meet in front of the VR room.

I wore my casuals and a pair of flip flops before going out.

A few minutes later as I approached the VR room I saw Owen already there.

"Yo dude, ready to get your ass whooped" he snickered with a smile.

"As if, our score is still thirty-five to zero and you're zero" I scoffed.

Since after that incident, I started going to the VR room and the few times I've had to battle, I had already made a name for myself.

When I told Owen my VR account name he answered with "Gravity overlord, really that's all you could come up with" he cringed.

"Says the guy whose account name is 'psychic god of destruction', a spectacular name indeed" I countered.

Anyways the VR battles are divided into three.

–One, a tournament with a hundred and fifty-eight players.

–Two, a team battle with equal amount of players where a player brings his or her team against another team

–Three, a one vs one battle or a challenge battle.

Till now I've only played challenge battles or one vs one, whatever you call it.

Owen and I went paid for our respective pods which was five points each.

As I laid down inside the pod, it closed before a robotic voice said "voice recognition".

"Gravity overlord" I said.

"Access granted. Welcome Gravity overlord". The voice replied.

A few moment later I felt myself appearing in my space.

Every player has a personal space in the VR, where they could design an avatar or choose to use their real face.

Though the avatar they design has to be respective to their body proportions or it won't work.

I decided to use an avatar and my avatar was clothed in black combat suit, with a red windbreaker that had a hood and a mask that covered the bottom part of the face.

I exited the personal space appearing in the home room where every player appears before going into battle.

Soon I sported a gothic teenager making his way to me with piercings all over his body.

"This never gets old everytime I see it" I said to the guy.

" What's wrong with my avatar, It is perfection" he said.

Obviously the gothic teenager was Owen.

"Are we gonna battle or kick some ass first" he asked while dramatically kicking his legs up.

"Nah am gonna fight players first, it's getting boring how I kick your ass everytime" I shrugged.

" Show off, just wait and see, one of this days am gonna kick your ass" he retorted.

I looked at the VR system for a one vs one battle and it showed me two options.

The two options were 'search' and 'random'. I chose random as it was easier that way, the VR was filled with cadets from the first, second, and third years.

Soon enough the random option stopped on a name, it was a player named 'heatstorm',

I chose enter and I was transported away to the battlefield.
