Chapter 6: Book of Immortality
Eldred was bewildered for a moment, but he quickly calmed his chaotic mind down and concentrated on what was written again.
'If I'm not mistaken, that vision I saw after touching the book has something to do with this. I don't want to fully believe it yet, but it seems like one of the seven books I saw hovering in that void space is currently in my hands.' Eldred looked at the book with a complicated gaze.
He was excited, astonished, afraid, and experiencing a variety of other emotions simultaneously.
Although he could more or less calmly consider the situation, he also considered the possibility that he was being used for a greater scheme beyond his capabilities.
However...
'The temptation is simply unimaginable; what if there is no greater scheme, and I truly just so happened to be the strongest person who crossed this crack, and this is just another stroke of luck like my transmigration,' Eldred took a quick look behind him to check on his dead friend's body and sighed.
He could now confidently state that their deaths had nothing to do with Duke Brand but instead had to do with their weak cultivation base to pass the test of this book.
Upon recalling the terrifying pressure that descended upon him, albeit for a short amount of time, Eldred's forehead was drenched with sweat as he quickly brushed away those thoughts.
'Book of Immortality, huh... Let's gamble this life of mine; it's not like I have anything to lose since I was about to die in a few years if I didn't take over this young body anyway.'
Eldred was an old man and understood that there was no escape from death; hence, why be afraid and grab this second choice of life, which will be like a fleeting wind ending with his death in decades or more?
Eldred would rather gamble it on the slightest bit of hope.
If Eldred had not been cornered into such a state, he would not have decided to go with the Book of Immortality so hurriedly. But now, Eldred is thoroughly convinced. Because the truth has been laid before his eyes, and there is no denying it.
He has been transmigrated!
So what if Immortality could also be attainable?
"It's just a pity... From the start, I had wasted an absurd amount of effort, cultivating for decades, distancing myself from everything and everyone, and going through suffering and multiple hardships to attain the grandmaster level." Eldred thought with a sigh.
Even though he had been transmigrated, his cultivation base did not come with him.
In the next second, Eldred's mouth grew into a wide smile.
'This world has qi and magic; although my effort was considerable, it is nothing compared to this heavenly gift.' Eldred was about to sit cross-legged again and follow the book's instructions when suddenly...
"Young master Eldred! Young master Eldred!"
Eldred saw an old man urgently waving his hands and calling his name outside the cave.
"Your father has summoned you back to the household; come out. We need to go as fast as possible!" Han's lungs almost burst open from the intensity of his yelling, but he didn't care and kept urging his young master to come out.
'After today, the young master will finally understand what truly happened!' Han thought, his wrinkled face filled with excitement and happiness for the pitiful kid he had to take care of since he was a baby.
'Han, that's one of my guardians, isn't he?' Eldred rubbed his chin in thought.
Only, he truly couldn't comprehend why his father, who always looked down on him and didn't even cast a side glance at him the moment he was found out to have no magic talent, would ever call him back.
Eldred had different thoughts, but given the situation and strength, he could not refuse the summons; otherwise, he would be forced back anyway. Hence, he decided to go along with the flow and head back.
'Although awakening at the adventure association is gonna be delayed, I can't risk disobeying the patriarch till I'm officially not the Arnold household's heir at least,' Eldred walked towards the old man, grouped with his other guardian, took a carriage, and left.
However, as he was about to speak and wondered what was happening with the sudden summons, a sudden thought crossed his mind.
'Wait, what adventure association? This kid has no talent for magic; am I dumb?' Eldred slapped his forehead; after half an hour of transmigration, his mind could finally properly think, and he recalled the real problem.
After considering it, Eldred decided to think about this matter later. Since his guardian, Sera was sitting right in front of him, he could only leave this problem for later.
The carriage the Arnold knight family gave Eldred was ordinary and not fancy; even farmers had similar ones.
However, although the carriage didn't bother Eldred, the road made his eyebrows furrow." Sera, what kind of plants are those?"
In front of the cave, Eldred noticed that the bare ground before the forest entrance was covered with red plants. He could spot several of them almost every meter, which he found a bit weird.
Even in the kid's memories, he found no information about these red plants.
Sera was about to ignore his question as usual but then recalled the message sent to her by the patriach.
"Guardian's Sera and Han, you are directly ordered by the patriarch to drop the act and bring Eldred back right away; plans have changed!"
The message was clear, and Sera, after years of faking hostility towards her young master, could finally sigh in relief and smile brightly.
With a faint smile, Sera respectfully replied," Young master, it is obvious that you don't know these red plants since you have never been to a battle before. These red plants are called blood petals; they grow where human blood is spilled. That's why there are always a lot of them along the cave route and around it."
"Are they any useful?"
The guardian knight sighed.
"Blood petals are poisonous. A touch might be enough to kill an adult man."
