Chapter 17 - Opening Assembly

Yein stood blankly, just staring into space.
Of course, her pants were still turning yellow.
Leaving her with pupils that had disappeared from her eyes, I returned home.
I never knew there was such a clean and effective method.
I should use it effectively in the future.
Since I didn’t inflict any physical harm, I had no intention of giving her any compensation if she demanded it later. After all, I just looked at her.
Every word she claims will become a lie.
Go ahead, live the life of a lying mental patient.
Those who enjoy making others cry tears of blood never think they’ll bleed themselves.
It’s time to reflect on why the term “karma” exists, An Yein.
When I got home, my sister was leisurely looking at her smartphone.
“I’m back.”
“You’re home? You’re early today?”
“How is 4 PM early, you fool.”
“But did something good happen? You’re smiling weirdly.”
“Ah, I settled an old grudge.”
“What? An old grudge?”
“You know, that bitch. An Yein.”
“Ah, that fucking bitch?”
A curse naturally flew out of my younger sister’s mouth. That’s right, she’s definitely my sister.
Just the fact that she defends me and properly calls that fucking bitch a fucking bitch makes her in the top 0.1 percent of sisters in South Korea.
“What about her?”
“I met her today. She was living her university life quite comfortably? After trying to ruin someone else’s life.”
“So, you just left it at that?”
“If I had, would I be grinning like this?”
“Ah, that’s true. I really thought it was a disaster back then. Watching her insist without any evidence, I wanted to tear her hair out.”
“That happened too. Anyway, I gave that fucking bitch a proper lesson.”
“How? Did you hit her or something?”
“Am I crazy? If I did that, she’d be a bloody pulp. I’m not exaggerating, she would literally turn into minced meat and die. I wanted to do that, but there was a better way.”
“What method?”
“Intimidation… would you call it? It’s one of my abilities.”
“How is intimidation an ability?”
Come to think of it, she hasn’t read any fantasy novels or anything like that. It’s going to be quite difficult to explain.
“Think about it. What if there’s a tiger in front of you. How would you feel?”
“Scared, right?”
“Exactly. Maximizing that fear. So… it’ll be difficult for her to live a normal life from now on.”
“Wow… You had such an ability too?”
“Yes. It’s convenient. Being able to take revenge without physically hitting or harming someone. But I controlled it moderately. If I hadn’t, she might have died from a heart attack, don’t you think?”
“It’s impressive but… a bit scary.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. I don’t want to become a murderer either. But at the very least, since she almost ruined my life, I just returned the favor to a similar degree.”
“No wonder you’re grinning. What about dinner?”
“I don’t have any particular plans… why?”
“I have to go tutoring soon, so I wanted to eat something.”
“Then let’s eat together. What do you want to eat?”
“Chicken?”
“Sounds good.”
“Beer… no, that won’t work, let’s just have cola.”
“Zero for me.”
“Me too, zero.”

Friday came faster than expected. And what happens on Friday? Of course, the opening assembly can’t be missed.
Some might say what’s the point of going to an opening assembly as a third-year student… but I had promised the kids, so I was planning to go.
Also, my classmates in the chat room said:
[Han Taehoon: Heyyyyyy Yoon Seohyun, are you really coming?]
[Yoon Seohyun: Yeah, I said I’m coming. Why?]
[Han Taehoon: No, the student council president keeps asking if you can come, it’s annoying]

[Yoon Seohyun: Why is the student council president asking?]
[Han Taehoon: Seems like she wants to get to know you]
[Yoo Hangyeol: Honestly, there are a lot of people in the department who want to talk to you now lol]
[Yoon Seohyun: Really?]
[Yoo Hangyeol: Yeah, I think it’s because they know you’re not a mutant who harms people recklessly]
[Yoon Seohyun: ;; Should I really put on a fire show or something? I suddenly feel like I’ve become popular in just one day]
[Heo Jihwan: Fire show? lol I can’t miss that, I’m coming too]
[Jo Minhyuk: This opening assembly will be unusually fun lol]
[Han Taehoon: I think it’s because the kids who met you in the department lounge have been talking to others too? Especially Nam Suyeon, she knows everyone…]
[Yoon Seohyun: Ah, I understand lol Alright]
The opening assembly time was 6 PM.
What they do at the opening assembly is introduce department events.
This time, I guess… the academic field trip would be the end of it. That and the year-end event prepared by the literary creation club run by the Korean Literature department.
Well, after introducing things briefly, they’ll probably just go to a suitable restaurant and have a drinking party.
University events generally start out formal but end with alcohol.
Just in case, I contacted my sister in advance.
[Yoon Seohyun: Hey]
[Yoon Seoa: What]
[Yoon Seohyun: I have an opening assembly today so I’ll be home late]
[Yoon Seoa: Yeah, Business has an opening assembly today too, so I’ll be late as well]
[Yoon Seohyun: Oh really?]
[Yoon Seoa: Have fun]
[Yoon Seohyun: lol Alright]
The opening assembly was at Humanities College room 104.
There’s still some time left, but my classmates have nothing to do and are waiting for me at the department lounge.
Well then… I should head to the lounge too.

When I arrived at the lounge and opened the door, it was crowded with people. My eyes immediately started to spin.
What is this overwhelming aura of popularity?
As the clattering sound of the door opening was heard, the gazes inside focused this way.
“Oh, you’re here?”
“Oh, hello, Senior!”
“Hello, hello. Hello to you too, Han Taehoon. Where are the others?”
“Briefly in the bathroom.”
“I see.”
“By the way, you’re early?”
“I had some free time… If I’m going to the opening assembly anyway, I thought I’d just hang out with you guys.”
“Then say hello to them. Come to think of it, it’s been a while since you met her, right? First time since orientation, isn’t it?”
“Who?”
“Hello, Senior.”
“Ah, it’s Junior Nayeon. Hello.”
“Ahaha… It’s been a while.”
“Indeed. Feels like we’re meeting after almost half a year.”
“It’s been longer.”
“Is that so? Anyway.”
“Thank you for coming today. There are a lot of people curious about you…”
“Really?”
“Yes. And there are many from the class of 2015 who want to get to know you better.”
The student council president, Kim Nayeon from the class of 2015, smiles awkwardly at me.
Although she’s just one year below me, we’re not that close.
I first saw her when I had almost given up on department activities, and the last time we met was at this year’s first semester orientation.
In other words, we’re still meeting after half a year. There’s quite an awkward atmosphere.
“Well, since it’s awkwardly killing us, get to know each other better at the assembly later… Hey, Seohyun.”
“What.”
“What you said in the chat room earlier, is it true?”
“What are you talking about now.”
“No, you said you’d show us a fire show.”

“Ah.”
“Can we look forward to it?”
“Come on, don’t take jokes so…”
“Wow, really!?”
A familiar voice suddenly breaks in. It’s Nam Suyeon.
“No, it was just a joke…”
But the gazes of the juniors around are fixed on me. They seem to have high expectations for the word “fire show.”
If I don’t show them, I’ll be the only bad person here.
“Hey, don’t be like that, just show us once.”
Heo Jihwan, who was next to me, chimed in. These guys, they’ve really set their minds to it today!
Fine, whatever. It’s not like I can’t do it. It’s not that difficult.
“Fine, fine, I get it. I’ll do it, I’ll do it. My mouth gets me in trouble.”
“Nice!”
“In our department, a dragon breathes fire!”
“Heo Jihwan, Han Taehoon, you crazy guys, shut up.”
Finding our reactions funny, Kim Nayeon laughed loudly.
“Ahaha! What’s that about?”
“Hey, Nayeon. I told you, didn’t I? He’s not scary at all.”
“Well, I heard that, but…”
“What? Junior Nayeon, were you scared of me too?”
“Back then, I don’t think there was anyone who wasn’t scared? Apart from wanting to be friends, you were quite scary.”
“I admit it, I admit it.”
“Was it that bad?”
“Hey, if you asked ten random people on the street, all ten would have been too scared to talk to you.”
“Was I that rough-looking…”
“Well, now you’re not at all, so don’t worry about it. By the way, I’m curious about the other juniors’ reactions too. In my opinion, today’s hotspot is wherever Yoon Seohyun is.”
“I think so too. Can I come hang out too?”
“Bring beer or fruit soju. Since I can’t get drunk anymore, at least let me taste something good.”
“Got it!”
“Oh, it’s almost time. Let’s go, everyone.”
“Yes!”

The opening assembly ended with little substance, as expected.
The main event of the opening assembly is, of course, the drinking gathering held after the assembly.
And there, I had to break into a cold sweat watching juniors rushing towards me.
Why do they have so many questions for me?
It’s not that I don’t understand, but still, there are too many!
“Senior, are you thinking of dating anyone?”
“How could I? I was a man until recently, how could I date a man?”
“Ah.”
“Is there anything uncomfortable about becoming a woman?”
“Many things. Like my hair suddenly getting long, which is annoying when washing…?”
“What about makeup?”
“I don’t really do it.”
“Woo, that’s cheating!”
The one doing this in front of me right now is our student council president.
That is, Kim Nayeon. Her attitude changes completely once alcohol enters her system.
It’s kind of fun to watch.
Then, suddenly, I feel someone quietly sitting down next to me. It was Sihyun. She had a slight smile on her lips, as if she found it amusing to see me chatting with Nayeon.
“Oh, our Sihyun! Did you come to see unnie? Come on, have a drink, and let me pour you one too.”
It seems our Junior Sihyun is quite favored by the student council president; as soon as she saw Kim Nayeon, she greeted her cheerfully and took a sip of alcohol.
“Hello, Unnie. You’re in an even better mood today?”
“That’s right. Our department’s legendary senior came to the opening assembly after a million years. Anyway, Senior. You really don’t wear makeup? That’s such a waste.”
“No. I’ve never learned how, and I don’t know how to do it.”
“Oh, then shall I teach you?”
“Is it necessary…? I just roughly apply lotion.”
“Isn’t that too wasteful? If you just add a little makeup there, you’d be incredibly pretty.”
“That’s a bit…”
“Let’s try it once! Sihyun, my pouch is over there? Could you get it.”
“Ah, this? Got it!”
Wait a minute, you guys. Why is this suddenly happening?
