Chapter 81: Advancement to Silver Upper Tier! (2)
Eric glanced over, somewhat helplessly, "Why are you all here too? Go back, we don't need you here."
Mosen and Eddy paused, bowed slightly to the City Lord, and then turned to leave.
Both were Legion Commanders, positions closest to the City Lord, so it was natural for them to be concerned. Since the City Lord said they weren't needed, they didn't hesitate to leave.
"Continue," Eric moved to the next news, his expression inscrutable.
Demacia came to his senses and gestured to the Guard Brigade. As the chief broadcaster, the Guard Brigade was clearly more suitable to speak.
The Guard Brigade took a step forward and answered respectfully, "Lord City Lord, here's what happened: three days ago, a black-robed member of the Human Race sought help from our Marvel organization, claiming that an organization called the Black Night Rose had infiltrated the City Lord's Mansion, so we conducted a three-day investigation."
"During this time, we uncovered a greater secret. They are everywhere, in the marketplace, the City Lord's Mansion, their people are everywhere, and the only way to identify them is that after death, their bodies emit smoke..."
At this point, Eric's finger paused slightly while scrolling on his phone, then continued as if he had no comment.
"And then, a letter drifted down from the sky, saying that in all over six hundred cities of the Federation, every city has members of this Black Night Rose. I think, to infiltrate so many cities silently, they must be up to something big, which is why this act was played out at the City Lord's Mansion."
"Just now, an unknown force shot and killed the woman named Yali, who was identified in the intelligence. Sure enough, her body emitted that strange black vapor."
"City Lord, that's all I know."
The Guard Brigade respectfully finished narrating, then stepped back to stand with Demacia, who was covered in blood. Both looked somewhat disheveled.
Eric continued scrolling on his phone, his muddled eyes a bit distracted, as if pondering something.
About ten minutes later, moonlight appeared faintly in the east while the sun stubbornly lingered in the west.
The sun's remaining glow illuminated the City Lord's Mansion, casting a somewhat dreamy picture.
Ding ding ding...
The wind chime on the Lake Heart Pavilion swayed, producing pleasant sounds. Eric put down his phone, turned his head, and his cloudy eyes fixed on the two players.
After a long time, he showed a kindly smile, "Thank you for your investigation, what reward would you like..."
As he began to speak, the players suddenly exuded a powerful aura, with one Level 4 and one Level 5 player suddenly turning into one Level 6 and one Level 7.
The City Lord was momentarily stunned, recalling the news earlier. He looked at Sabo, "Take them out, the City Lord's Mansion will cover the costs, give them some rewards, you handle it."
Sabo got up, glanced at Baiyi, a flicker of inexplicable emotion passing through his eyes. He displayed a signature smile, bowed, "As you command, Lord City Lord!"
"Let's go, Marvels, I'll take you to choose your reward!" Sabo said as he walked outside the Lake Heart Pavilion.
Demacia and the Guard Brigade exchanged glances, eyes revealing joy, and quickly jogged after him.
Amidst a barrage of livestream comments reading [Learned], they quickly left the Lake Heart Pavilion.
Silence.
Eric resumed browsing on his phone, but his mind was clearly elsewhere.
The Lake Heart Pavilion was now left with just the two of them, Baiyi did not rush, waiting silently as before.
When the sun completely set and moonlight started to fall.
Eric's voice finally sounded, "Actually, I've been considering retirement, you know what I plan for in six months, a peaceful mind is what I need now."
Baiyi paused, looking at the fish swimming, somewhat helpless, "But we only have you left."
"The Capital City is a good place, it's the stage suited for you, you could give it a try," Eric looked at the crescent moon, his tone gentle.
"Not enough!" Baiyi lightly shook his head.
Eric was momentarily stunned, the gently rocking chair stopped, his eyes showed surprise as he looked at Baiyi.
Baiyi calmly met his gaze, his eyes revealing undisguised ambition, the Old City Lord hadn't played a role in the original trajectory, but in the next thirty years, he never appeared.
This only meant one thing, the Old City Lord failed at a breakthrough and suffered severe injuries, dying in the War of Destruction.
An old man who could live and die with his city, Baiyi didn't believe he'd misjudge him.
The stare lasted for about three seconds before the Old City Lord's eyes turned sharp, "Are you hiding something? Are you suspicious of the Federation?"
In Eric's subtly changing gaze, Baiyi seemed to see heaps of corpses and seas of blood, like an aging lion recovering its war intent, scrutinizing him.
Baiyi didn't answer but didn't avoid the City Lord's gaze either, not answering was in itself an answer!
The energy of the Black Night Rose was beyond imagination, the powerful aura of a legislator, which meant it was on par with the Old City Lord, and like other members, that person was just a controlled member.
Based on this information alone, Baiyi was doomed to not excessively offend this organization, at least not now!
The Old City Lord shakily stood up, a powerful intent circulated in the Lake Heart Pavilion, a terrifying aura instantly made his dark side become exceedingly compliant.
The specialty [Spiritual Defense] passively triggered, withstanding the massive pressure, but his spirit was rapidly consuming.
Eric stared at him for a long time until his Spiritual Defense was on the verge of collapsing when that lion-like aura suddenly dissipated.
