Secretly Mine

Chapter 233: Painful Goodbye's

It was the same scene that I saw every Sunday. Groups of well-dressed people scattered around the front entrance to the grand Cathedral.

My stomach twisted slightly as the driver parked to let us out at the front entrance. Today would be the day I had to tell Lucas about my decision.

Worry and guilt spread through me. I didn't doubt my decision to choose Christian, but the thought of hurting Lucas pained me. He was much too kind and deserved someone as bright and kind as he was.

I stepped out of the limousine, maintaining a fixed distance behind the rest of my family. There were many eyes on us, and soon a whole group of people surrounded my parents, asking about the soon-to-be wedding.

"I was so surprised when I received the sudden invitation. Will you have enough time to plan everything?" one of the madams asked my mother.

"Yes," she smiled brightly. "These kids are so in love that they couldn't wait any longer. Christian personally told me not to worry about any costs for last-minute booking, he would cover them all."

My mother was beaming with joy as more and more madams congratulated her and Morgan.

"Oh, I'm so excited. To be honest, I never thought the serious CEO Vittoria would ever marry for love. But hearing you speak about him this way paints a picture of how wonderful your daughter really is!"

The woman who spoke was old enough to be a grandmother and was a prominent woman in the upper circle. A lot of the women in my mother's age group deeply respected her opinion, so her flattering words meant a lot to the family.

My mother beamed. She thanked the woman more than once to make sure that all of the surrounding women heard her.

The younger ladies all surrounded Morgan to congratulate her. Most of them were green with envy, but were too prideful to show it. Instead, they continued to prod and ask Morgan about any intimate moments she had with Christian.

In a hushed voice, Morgan smiled shyly. "He's a great kisser. And he can never seem to get enough," she said cryptically.

I stood just close enough to hear her spew such convincing lies and shook my head.

He is a great kisser. And you certainly got the part about him never seeming to get enough right.

My mind went straight to how he kept me awake all night, filling me with his cum over and over again.

All of the surrounding ladies blushed at Morgan's innuendo. The jealous ones clenched their fists with anger.

I stood quietly and watched as Morgan began to creatively disclose her fantasies to the others. I called them fantasies because none of these things were true or had actually happened.

In fact, she came up with such an elaborate story about their magnetic connection on the night of her engagement party that I had to hold back from bursting out into laughter.

"You wouldn't believe it. He waited for me behind the tall rosebushes. Just as I arrived, he pulled me into his arms and kissed me. We continued to kiss for what felt like an hour, but even when people were calling for us, he refused to let go."

"Ahh!" a few of the ladies squealed. Most of their faces were bright red from the excitement of Morgan's story. I was the only one in the group who found it comical.

Ah, but you missed the part where your younger sister sucked him off right before.

Of course, the kissing wasn't real either. I watched them make their way back to the party with my own eyes that night. Plus, I doubted that Christian had any other thoughts outside of me after what I had done.

Morgan's stories became wilder and wilder, and soon I began to lose interest. My eyes scanned the surroundings, looking for the angelic blonde who always wore a cream colored suit.

It was difficult to see through the sea of people, and I couldn't find him before the church bells rang and the doors opened.

I followed the crowd inside, upset that I didn't have a chance to speak with Lucas before the service started.

Maybe I'll have some time after?

It was only after I sat down in my usual seat that I got a glimpse of the golden waves I've been looking for.

Lucas sat on the opposite side of the Cathedral this time, but his smiling eyes were on me. He tilted his head, greeting me with warmth and happiness.

I returned the greeting with a nod of my own.

He probably sat over there out of respect for me. He most likely felt that I would feel uncomfortable if he sat beside me like he had in the past.

His morals were worthy of an award. If there were more people like him in the world, it would be a much better place.

A sense of discomfort circled inside of me, but I steeled my resolve.

It wouldn't be fair for me not to tell him. He will be at the wedding, and I don't want him to find out that way.

---

As soon as the service ended, I weaved through the crowd to find Lucas. I only had a limited amount of time before my family left back home, so I rushed to make it over to him.

"Hey, Leslie. It's wonderful to see you today. It feels like it's been forever," he said shyly.

I smiled, but my stomach twisted. "Hi, Lucas. I was hoping to talk to you. Could we go somewhere more private for a moment?"

His expression stiffened slightly, but he nodded and led me through the crowd to a small side room.

"No one should bother us here. Feel free to say anything you want."

His smile was as pure as his eyes. My chest tightened slightly as I searched for the correct words to say.

He noticed my hesitation, and his expression quickly turned to one of concern.

"Leslie, what's wrong. Did something happen?" he asked. "Whatever it is, you can tell me."

A lot happened....

My eyes lingered on the ground. I didn't even have the courage to look up at him.

No. I have to. He deserves all of the respect that he's shown me.

I wouldn't allow myself to shy away. He deserved more than just a simple excuse.

"Lucas. I've thought about what you said to me. Our time together has brought me nothing but happiness and comfort, and for that I'm very grateful. But I cannot accept your feelings, I'm sorry."

His face froze, and I could visibly see the hurt deep in his eyes. His lips quivered slightly as he looked at me with a gut-wrenching hurt.

"Leslie, was it something I did? Did I overstep and make you uncomfortable?"

"Lucas," I said, snapping him out of his trance. "You did nothing at all. In fact, you made me question a lot of my decisions and feelings. You've been nothing but respectful, and I will always admire you for that."

I took another deep breath.

"The truth is that I already have someone in my heart. I've been in love with this person for a while now, and the feelings are mutual. This is the truth."

Lucas nodded, and a few moments later, he lifted his head and smiled at me. His smile was overly bright. Blinding. But behind the beautiful smile, I could feel the pain.

"I understand, Leslie. Thank you for telling me."

Clenching the skirt of my dress, I nodded. "You deserve to know the truth. I'm sorry, Lucas."

There were so many things I wanted to say. Things like 'we can still be friends' or 'I would love to continue painting with you', but none of those were fair to him.

What I truly wished was for him to find a love as blinding and beautiful as he was.
