Chapter 213: Retracing Steps [Christian POV]
As the bids continued to fly in, I quietly crept out of the crowd.
Taking advantage of the dim lighting, I snuck over to the very edge of the hall, looking out for security.
Along the back wall of the hall, a small group of guards was looking around. I hid behind a large pillar right as one of them looked my way.
How am I supposed to get out? The only way to get out is to sneak past them.
I did my best to scan around the room again to try and find another way out, but from what I could tell, there wasn't any other way.
I waited behind the pillar until the next person was brought out on stage. It was another beautiful woman with a curvy body and delicate features.
"Well, well! Look at this one! I wish I could get my hands on her!"
The guards began joking amongst themselves as their eyes were glued to the woman on stage.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm sure you have a couple of tens of millions of dollars lying around. Go ahead and bid!" another one joked.
This is my chance!
While they were all distracted with the woman on stage, I snuck out behind the pillar and tiptoed behind them, sticking as close to the wall as possible.
Thankfully, the guards were all distracted enough for me to sneak by without being discovered. It only took me a few moments to reach the door and slip out.
As soon as I made it into the hallway, I almost ran into another set of guards. To avoid getting caught immediately, I turned the corner and slipped into the hallway that led upstairs to the VIP wards.
How do I get passed the guards? The room Abigail told me about should be in the front, by the main entrance.
The tighter-than-average security made it impossible to attempt sneaking to the front of the building.
"What should I do now?" I mumbled as I continued down that hall with the VIP wards.
Suddenly, a strange sense of familiarity rose within me. The adorned walls and decorations felt very familiar to me. I continued to walk until I reached a door about halfway down the hall.
Was this the room I was in during the Sophia season launch event?
I carefully opened the door and stepped inside. There wasn't anything special inside, only a few plush couches and chairs.
From the balcony, I could clearly see the stage below, along with all of the disgusting people who continued to bid on humans like livestock.
I pulled out another recording device that I had in my pocket and fastened it to the rail of the balcony, so that it would continue to record while I continued to explore.
"There, that should capture everything," I said, taking a step back.
The moment I turned around, I felt a sudden pulsing headache take over. I fell to the ground and leaned against one of the couches.
Beads of sweat rolled down my face, but just as I thought I was going to pass out, the pain suddenly stopped, and a set of memories came flooding in.
I remembered clearly how I was sitting here, in this exact booth with Leslie, Morgan, and Karl. I opted to sit next to Karl so that he wouldn't have a chance to bother Leslie, and continuously fed him alcohol the entire night.
I remembered how Leslie's eyes widened in shock when the first Sophia piece sold for a huge amount, and how proud of her I felt.
My eyes glanced at the sofa in front of me...
"You started this. I won't let you off until we finish it, and next time I cum, it's going to be inside of you."
The blissful look on Leslie's face when I made her that promise, along with the way her body begged me to continue going. I remembered it all in great detail.
What happened next? Why can't I remember what happened next?
When Leslie retold me the story of what happened that night, she mentioned that an unknown man interrupted us. I closed my eyes and tried to remember, causing my forehead to break out into a cold sweat once again.
This time, small bits and pieces came back. I remembered the knock on the door, then a man trying to wake Karl up from his drunken stupor. But after that, I couldn't seem to remember anything else.
Leslie said that I followed them... maybe I can retrace my steps?
With shaking hands, I lifted myself off the floor. I knew the only option I had was to keep searching for clues. This was most likely the only opportunity I had to save those people who were being auctioned off.
My head was still aching even after I left the VIP ward. I turned to the right and continued down the hall to see if there was anything else that I could remember.
I didn't walk far when I encountered a very large painting. Two large statues stood on either side, making it seem a bit out of place.
Something inside of me told me that this painting was important. I looked at it carefully to see what about the painting drew me in.
It's not particularly impressive... In fact, it's the least impressive painting I've seen here so far.
I bent over slightly to try and read the name and painter of the painting, only to discover that the nameplate looked different than the others.
Earlier, when I looked at the painting of the commander on the horse, I noticed the nameplate was a thin, golden piece of metal. The other paintings were similar in this regard, but this nameplate was boxy and protruded out of the wall slightly.
Out of curiosity, I pressed my fingers against it, realizing that it was indeed more than a simple nameplate.
Once my fingers pushed it as far back as it would go, I heard a small click behind the painting. The moment I heard that sound, I remembered my previous encounter with this hidden door.
I'm finally retracing my steps!
A sense of excitement rose within me. The fact that my memories have been coming back to me more than ever before wasn't something I had planned to happen.
Maybe if I retrace my steps, I'll be able to remember even more.
