Second Shot at Life

Chapter 12: Prepping for the Park Date

After Jay got his challenge, he was excited but knew he had three days until the weekend, giving him time to prepare. He decided to also persuade his parents to invest more in different company stocks that he recommended. Since the stock price of their previous investment had risen significantly, his parents trusted him this time.

Dad: "Alright, Jay, we trust you. What should we invest in this time?"

Jay: "I've researched a few companies, and I think they'll do well. Let's go with Tata Motors and Reliance Industries."

His parents nodded, taking his advice seriously. For the next two days, Jay balanced his regular school life with his new role as a young investor.

As the day before the weekend approached, Jay grew increasingly nervous about his upcoming park date with Riya. He brainstormed some ideas that would impress a 10-year-old girl. The System watched him closely, teasing and warning him.

System (teasing): "Better not use those cringe ideas from the book, Jay. It'll be a disaster."

Jay (determined): "I know, I know. I need to think of something better."

Jay couldn't sleep that night, his mind racing with thoughts about the date. When morning arrived, he called Riya's house. Her mom picked up the phone.

Jay: "Hi, Mrs. Sharma. Is Riya there? We planned to go to the park today to play."

Riya's mom handed the phone to Riya, who confirmed their plans.

Riya: "Hey, Jay! I'll meet you at the park entrance this afternoon."

Jay felt a rush of relief but insisted on picking her up on his bicycle.

Jay: "Actually, Riya, I'd love to pick you up on my bike. It'll be fun."

Riya agreed, and the plan was set. As the time drew near, Jay's excitement and nerves grew. He knew that as far as his memory told him, they were now good friends, but he was scared of losing her as a friend if he asked her out. He decided to take it slow, enjoy their time together, and get closer to her.

Jay (thinking): "Just be yourself, Jay. Make her laugh and have a good time. Don't overthink it."

Jay arrived at Riya's house, his heart pounding. She came out, looking cheerful and ready for their adventure.

Riya: "Hi, Jay! Ready to go?"

Jay (smiling): "Absolutely! Hop on."

They rode to the park, chatting and laughing along the way. Jay felt his nerves ease as they talked about their favorite things, from cartoons to snacks. As they arrived at the park, Jay had a plan in mind.

Jay: "Let's play on the swings first. I bet I can swing higher than you!"

Riya laughed, accepting the challenge. They spent the afternoon playing games, racing, and exploring the park. Jay's efforts to make her laugh and have a great time seemed to be working.

Jay: "How about we go to the duck pond next? We can feed the ducks."

Riya: "That sounds fun! Let's go."

At the pond, they took turns tossing pieces of bread to the ducks, laughing when the ducks quacked loudly and swam eagerly for the food. Jay felt a sense of accomplishment as Riya's laughter filled the air.

Jay: "Look at that one! It's so greedy."

Riya (giggling): "Yeah, it's practically a duck race!"

After the pond, they decided to try the slide and see who could slide down the fastest. Jay even managed a few silly stunts that made Riya laugh uncontrollably.

Jay (pretending to be a superhero): "Watch out, everyone! Super Jay is here to save the day!"

Riya: "You're so silly, Jay!"

As they wandered through the park, they stumbled upon a small ice cream stand. Jay decided to treat Riya to her favorite flavor.

Jay: "Two chocolate ice creams, please."

They sat on a bench, savoring their treats and talking about their dreams and hopes for the future.

Jay: "One day, I want to travel the world and see amazing places."

Riya: "That sounds incredible, Jay. I'd love to visit Paris someday."

Jay: "We'll make it happen, Riya. Just you wait."

Later, they sat under a tree, catching their breath.

Jay: "Riya, I'm really glad we're friends. I hope we can hang out more often."

Riya smiled warmly.

Riya: "Me too, Jay. This was really fun."

Jay felt a sense of accomplishment and relief. He didn't push for anything more, just enjoyed the moment with her.

That night, as Jay lay in bed, feeling content with how the day went, he suddenly saw a panel pop up in front of him.

Panel: "Challenge Completed: Successfully impress Riya on your park 'date.'"

Jay stared at the panel in surprise. He asked the System, feeling a bit puzzled.

Jay: "But it didn't feel like a date. We were just playing together."

The System smirked, its tone smug but playful.

System: "Isn't that technically what a date is? You made Riya have a good time, didn't you?"

Jay felt a wave of relief and happiness wash over him. Maybe the System could be nice sometimes, rather than always being an annoyance.

Jay: "Well, thanks, System. You can be decent sometimes."

The System chuckled.

System: "Don't get used to it."

Jay then asked about his reward.

Jay: "So, what power do I get now?"

The System's response was simple and intriguing.

System: "Say 'status window' and look for yourself."

Jay did as instructed, eager to see what new ability he had earned.
