Chapter 4: Direct confrontation
After a moment, the Research Team remained observing the behavior of SCP-9743, still observing the cameras, until he suddenly sit down on the ground, completely bored, but in his thoughts. The inform was sent to the superiors, and a copy was saved inside a file created for SCP-9743.
As the time was passing, it was going to be night time soon, and SCP-9743 got up and walked until be under one of the cameras. The Research Team wondered why, but not worried for now as SCP-9743 didn't show any type of aggressive behavior.
SCP-9743: "Are you getting entertained looking at me?"
The Research Team looked at each other for a moment, all of them wondered why would SCP-9743 ask that question, or even, what he wanted to get with it?
SCP-9743: "At least it could've been in somewhere with a bed, no? Or you really expect me to be all the time here, sitting and sleeping on the ground? I though even prisoners, and people that was kidnapped, had rights."
The Research Team easily saw what SCP-9743 wanted to say. He was discomfort with where he is, and requested if at least could rest in somewhere that isn't the ground, but the Research Team remained thinking for a moment, hesitating in where SCP-9743 wanted to get with this. But soon, Dr. Alexander Grimm, rejected any request or petition SCP-9743 would do. Could be dangerous, and no matter how much human he looks like, is an anomaly.
SCP-9743 waited for a moment, waiting for any type of answer, but after some time, he got it clear, as slowly, his expression changed to be more annoyed and frustrated. He knew he wasn't going to receive any respond.
And so, SCP-9743 walked a little, and moved down, getting comfortable in the ground, while using the hoodie as pillow. And like that, he spent the night, sleeping how he could.
In the early morning, Dr. Alexander Grimm decided to test SCP-9743. He asked for SCP-9743-1 to be brought back again. And after a moment, both were once again, staring at each other.
SCP-9743: "You again?..."
The D-class hesitated at first, he knew it was extremely dangerous what he was asked for, and so, he turned to look at the camera of the left corner of the containment cell's door, before sighing and looking at SCP-9743.
SCP-9743-1: "So... you're just sitting here, huh? Some big, bad anomaly locked in a box. Doesn't sound so dangerous to me."
SCP-9743's expression was one of wonder, as he was wondering what the D-class wanted. And then the D-class continued.
SCP-9743-1: "What's the matter? Afraid to show what you can actually do? Or maybe you can't do much at all."
The Research Team remain observing what SCP-9743 was going to do, but he didn't do anything yet. SCP-9743 reacted as tired and not wanting to deal so soon with this, as his expression was now of a tired one, mixed with being slightly annoyed.
SCP-9743 moved his left hand, and placed his left fingers on his eyes, caressing them, acting as is tired, and then, sighing. It was clear SCP-9743 didn't wanted to deal with that. But the D-class continued, he had to continue as was ordered.
SCP-9743-1: "You know, if you were really powerful, you wouldn't be stuck in here. They'd be the ones running, not watching you through cameras like you're some circus act."
Slowly, SCP-9743 was really being aimed, as he sighed again, but now his left hand was slightly more tensed, but then, he moved down his left hand, and looked at the D-class.
SCP-9743: "It's too soon in the morning, and the first thing I want, is either entertainment, or breakfast, not deal with you or this."
The D-class hesitated, but then, continued once again.
SCP-9743-1: "Maybe they locked you up because you're too scared to face the real world. Is that it? Some big anomaly, afraid of a little freedom?"
SCP-9743 was loosing his patience here, as his respiration was more forced now, and his expression tired, and yet, frustrated and annoyed. After a moment, the D-class was going to say something, but before he could talk again, SCP-9743 raised his left hand open, and with a move of his left fingers, some faintly blue sparkles appeared around his left hand for an instant. The blue sparks were tiny and almost able to be seen, but after the move of his fingers, a bunch of bones crashed from the ground, and pierced through SCP-9743-1.
The D-class died immediately, and the Research Team finally obtained their so wanted reaction. But after start of taking notes, they heard SCP-9743's voice, so Dr. Alexander Grimm looked, and saw SCP-9743 staring at one of the cameras very closely. The stare was with a serious and tired expression, and his tone was straight.
SCP-9743: "It's too soon in the morning, I just woke up. Don't you dare in share your stupidity with me. And now, you better bring me something for breakfast, I'm hungry."
Incident Report: Second Interaction Between SCP-9743 and SCP-9743-1
Date: March 26. 2022
Location: Site-19 Containment Chamber for SCP-9743
Conducted by: Dr. Alexander Grimm
Personnel Involved: D-Class Subject (Designated SCP-9743-1), Research Team, Armed Guards
Incident Overview
This document outlines the events of the second recorded interaction between SCP-9743 and SCP-9743-1. The objective of this test was to provoke a reaction from SCP-9743 to gain further understanding of its capabilities, temperament, and behavioral thresholds. The results of this interaction provided critical insights into SCP-9743's anomalous abilities and its tolerance for external provocation.
Interaction Summary
Initiation:
In the early morning, Dr. Alexander Grimm authorized the return of SCP-9743-1 (the same D-Class subject from the first interaction) to SCP-9743's containment cell. Upon entering, SCP-9743 and the D-Class once again stood staring at one another.
SCP-9743: "You again?..."
SCP-9743's initial reaction was one of mild curiosity and apathy.
Provocation Begins:
The D-Class, instructed to irritate and provoke SCP-9743, hesitated briefly before beginning the task. The subject glanced at one of the observation cameras, sighed, and initiated verbal taunts:
SCP-9743-1: "So... you're just sitting here, huh? Some big, bad anomaly locked in a box. Doesn't sound so dangerous to me."
SCP-9743 reacted with visible indifference, its expression shifting only to mild curiosity. The D-Class continued:
SCP-9743-1: "What's the matter? Afraid to show what you can actually do? Or maybe you can't do much at all."
At this point, SCP-9743 appeared visibly annoyed. It sighed, rubbed its eyes with its left hand, and displayed a fatigued demeanor. The entity's nonverbal communication suggested a desire to disengage from the situation.
Escalation of Provocation:
The D-Class continued to press:
SCP-9743-1: "You know, if you were really powerful, you wouldn't be stuck in here. They'd be the ones running, not watching you through cameras like you're some circus act."
SCP-9743's irritation became more apparent. It sighed audibly, and its left hand tensed briefly before it lowered its arm and addressed the D-Class:
SCP-9743: "It's too soon in the morning, and the first thing I want is either entertainment, or breakfast. Not deal with you or this."
Despite this warning, the D-Class persisted:
SCP-9743-1: "Maybe they locked you up because you're too scared to face the real world. Is that it? Some big anomaly, afraid of a little freedom?"
At this point, SCP-9743's demeanor shifted significantly. Its breathing grew audibly heavier, and its expression displayed frustration and suppressed anger.
Reaction:
As the D-Class prepared to continue provoking SCP-9743, the entity raised its left hand, which briefly emitted faint blue sparks. With a subtle movement of its fingers, a collection of bone-like protrusions erupted from the floor, impaling SCP-9743-1 instantly. The D-Class expired immediately.
The Research Team observed this event with a mix of fascination and alarm, having successfully elicited an anomalous reaction from SCP-9743. Before notes could be completed, SCP-9743 addressed the observation cameras directly, approaching one of them with a serious and tired expression:
SCP-9743: "It's too soon in the morning. I just woke up. Don't you dare share your stupidity with me. And now, you better bring me something for breakfast. I'm hungry."
Dr. Alexander Grimm, considering the potential risk of further provoking SCP-9743 and the need to maintain containment stability, would likely approve the request to provide SCP-9743 with breakfast. However, this decision would come with strict oversight to ensure the action doesn't set a precedent for SCP-9743 making continuous demands.
The food provided would be carefully selected to minimize potential risks, likely consisting of standard, non-anomalous items, and would be delivered via an automated system to avoid direct contact with personnel. Additionally, Dr. Grimm would make it clear through the intercom or written communication that the fulfillment of this request is contingent on SCP-9743's continued compliance and lack of hostility.
After a moment, the guards delivered a simple meal, and quickly let the sooner as possible the meal inside the containment cell, and the closest to the containment door as they can.
SCP-9743: "Can you stop being so stupid? You're not dead because I didn't wanted to kill you... But thanks."
The guards half ignored what SCP-9743 said, but then the door was closed. While SCP-9743 was taking his meal, he was having his breakfast, while the Research Team sent the inform to the superiors, while saving a copy in the file.
Analysis
Anomalous Capabilities: SCP-9743 displayed control over an unidentified ability capable of generating bone-like structures from the ground. This manifestation was accompanied by faint blue sparks, suggesting an energy-based component to its powers. The reaction was immediate and precise, resulting in the instantaneous termination of the D-Class.
Temperament: SCP-9743 demonstrated significant patience initially, responding to provocation with apathy and mild annoyance. However, repeated verbal taunts and escalating provocations pushed the entity beyond its tolerance threshold, resulting in lethal action.
Communication Style: SCP-9743's verbal response after the incident indicates it is fully aware of the Research Team's observations and is willing to communicate its dissatisfaction directly. Its demand for food suggests a degree of pragmatism and self-awareness regarding its containment.
Containment Implications: SCP-9743's reaction underscores its potential lethality and unpredictability when provoked. Future interactions must be approached with caution to avoid unnecessary loss of life.
Recommendations and Actions
Dr. Alexander Grimm's Decision:
Immediate Response: Dr. Grimm authorized the delivery of a standard containment meal to SCP-9743 to de-escalate the situation and observe its response to compliance with demands. This act was framed as a containment strategy to avoid further aggression.
Future Testing Protocols: Dr. Grimm has ordered a suspension of direct provocation experiments until a comprehensive risk assessment can be completed. Further testing will prioritize non-confrontational methods to gather data on SCP-9743's behavior and capabilities.
Containment Adjustment: Enhanced observation measures have been recommended, including additional audio-visual equipment to capture subtle details of SCP-9743's abilities. Containment protocols will also be revised to address the entity's demonstrated lethality and ensure minimal risk to personnel.
Behavioral Study: A psychological profile of SCP-9743 will be developed based on its interactions and communications. This profile will assist in predicting its responses to various stimuli and refining containment procedures.
Primary Object Class: Euclid
SCP-9743 displayed a level of self-control and predictability throughout most of the interaction. It only acted lethally after sustained provocation, suggesting that under normal conditions, it may remain docile and cooperative within containment. This supports an Euclid classification as long as proper protocols are followed to avoid unnecessary provocation.
Secondary Object Class(es):
Keter: SCP-9743's lethality and ability to summon bone-like structures with precision indicate that if containment fails, it could pose a significant threat. Its demonstrated frustration and direct communication suggest it may react aggressively if containment conditions are not carefully maintained.
Thaumiel (Potential): The entity's measured responses and capacity for dialogue imply that it could potentially be negotiated with or utilized for specific purposes, provided its demands or needs are met and its trust earned. However, this remains speculative and would require further behavioral study.
