Level 2… nice. Saquin smiled beneath the cloth covering his head. This Blood Drain ability will be quite useful… I hate the idea of having to sink my fangs into things. Bending down, he placed his hand on Captain Jacob's body.
"Blood Drain," he murmured, watching as the captain's corpse shriveled with the activation of his ability. It drains vitality from the dead too.
"What are you doing to the captain's body, you monster!" one of the guards shouted, his voice trembling. He'd been paralyzed with shock, first from seeing time slow around him, then from witnessing their "invincible" captain's death. Now, the sight of the captain's shriveling form brought him out of his stupor.
"He's dead, so why worry about his body?" Saquin replied, shrugging.
"Even so, stop disrespecting his—" The guard's words were cut off as Saquin hurled the captain's sword at him.
"Don't underestimate us!" the guard cried, dodging the blade just in time.
"I'm not," Saquin's voice sounded from above. Startled by his speed, the guard tried to slash upward, but—
Crack!
Saquin had landed on his shoulder, snapping the guard's neck with inhuman force as his claws dug deep into the man's throat.
Swoosh!
Another guard saw his chance, lunging at Saquin with a silver-bladed sword, hoping to exploit his blind spot. But his swing hit nothing but air; Saquin had flipped into a handstand on top of the fallen guard's head.
"Die!" shouted yet another guard, rushing at Saquin, who was still upside down, draining the last bit of vitality from the dead guard beneath him.
"Calm down; it'll be your turn soon." Saquin landed smoothly in front of the falling body.
[System Prompt]
[Host, I'd advise making escape your priority.]
It is my priority, he replied mentally. I just need to take out these guards to buy myself a bit more time.
One guard, regaining his balance, lunged at Saquin again.
"Are you buying time so one of you can run for reinforcements?" Saquin asked. The guard's eyes flashed with alarm, and Saquin knew he'd guessed right: the man was planning to sacrifice himself so another could alert headquarters. Saquin laughed softly.
"That's just wishful thinking, little one," he said in a playful tone, before whispering, "Time Brief."
Voom.
In an instant, everything slowed. Saquin moved at his peak speed, bypassing the attacking guard to reach the one attempting to escape. The guard, barely moving under the effect of Time Brief, was helpless as Saquin twisted his neck and flung him back. At the same time, he unsheathed his sword and, maintaining his heightened speed,
Slash. Slash. Slash.
Each swing of his sword found a mark, cutting across the necks of the remaining guards.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
The sound of bodies collapsing filled the silence as Time Brief came to an end.
Saquin moved to one of the fallen bodies, kneeling to perform Blood Drain, but—
Voom.
Stopping abruptly, he turned, facing away from the large castle at the city's center, and broke into a full sprint, putting all his strength into it.
[ Hosts, why are the sudden change of mind? ]
I almost forgot, but I threw some guards to the stage floor before. Saquin replied mentally.
[ Yea, you did. It seems they have gone to alert headquarters but then why run away from their direction and not finish them off as you had been doing? ]
I would have no problem catching up to them to silence them but they have enter the 'range'.
[ Oh, what range? ]
The sensing range of those monsters—the Lord's loyal head guard and the commander. When he'd been taken out of the cell, Saquin had gauged where the range began. If I step into that, I can kiss my life goodbye.
[ So, running is only option ]
Exactly, Saquin replied. Running through the city, he jumped from roof to roof, finally reaching the city walls.
Standing on a rooftop, he scanned the walls to locate the sewage exit. Bad Granny said the capital has one for emergency escapes after her heists.
His eyes settled on the sewage exit, and Saquin couldn't help but smile under the cloth. Seems Bad Granny really is a bad granny.
Passing through the sewage exit proved to be the most challenging part of the day thanks to his heightened senses.
Damn it, Mythic, can't you turnoff my super senses? Saquin asked mentally.
[ We have been over this, Host. I do not have full control over your powers and abilities as you already had them before you found me. I can only help you improve, facilitate and help activate them. ]
Fuck this!
[ Language, Host. ]
Tsk.
"Finally!" Saquin shouted out loud as he finally made it out of the sewage exit.
Turning back to see the city wall a kilometer away, he ripped off the cloth covering his face, revealing his striking features, and—
"Hahahahahahahahahaha"
He broke into a laugh, unsettlingly out of place for his handsome face.
"I am free!"
