Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Real Challenge
The wind blew strongly around me, blowing dust and dry leaves across the ground. My body still felt the impact of Kael's blows, but my determination outweighed the pain. If he wanted to test my strength, I would show him that I wasn't just anyone.
Kael continued to watch me, his arms crossed and a smile on his face. "Come on, kid. Show me what you've got."
I took a deep breath, concentrating my Ki around my body. I needed to think of a strategy, something that would allow me to at least hit him once. Attacking head-on clearly wasn't working, so I needed something different.
I decided to test my speed. I bent my knees and shot in a zigzag across the battlefield, trying to confuse his perception. My movements were more fluid than before, and I could feel that my control over flight was improving.
Kael followed me with his eyes, still standing still. "Interesting. But not enough."
Before I could react, he simply disappeared. My heart raced. Where was he?
A second later, I felt an overwhelming blow hit my back. I was thrown to the ground, opening a furrow in the earth before finally coming to a stop. I coughed, trying to catch my breath.
Kael landed softly a few meters away. "You have speed, but without control and combat reading, it's no use."
Laila ran towards me, but I stopped her with a gesture. "I'm fine."
She hesitated, but stepped back.
I stood up, ignoring the pain. I needed something more. Activating my Ki without a plan wasn't going to get me anywhere. Then I remembered what I had felt before Kael appeared: his presence, however discreet. Maybe that was the secret.
I closed my eyes and tried to feel his energy. It was there, intense and still. But there was something else: small oscillations that indicated slight changes in the intensity of the Ki. It was as if it was ready to move at any moment.
I opened my eyes and smiled, "Now I get it."
Kael arched an eyebrow. "Oh? Let's see."
This time, I didn't attack immediately. I kept my energy flowing in a controlled manner, adjusting it to a minimum so that my body responded with speed and precision. If he tried to disappear again, I would feel it.
And then he moved.
But this time, I followed him.
Kael appeared beside me, ready to strike. The instant I felt the change in Ki, I moved too, dodging his blow by a short margin. His eyes flashed in surprise.
I took advantage of the opening and spun around, landing a direct kick to his abdomen.
The impact knocked him back a few meters. He didn't fall, but for the first time, his smile widened.
"That was good. Much better than I expected."
I was panting, but I felt tremendous satisfaction. For once, I'd managed to hit him. That meant I was on the right track.
Yet I could feel... the fatigue was beginning to consume me.
Kuririn's words resounded in my mind.
I had to control the power and effort I put into my blows, if I'm always attacking with full force, I'll drop dead before I know it.
Suddenly I felt something change in myself, my muscles that had previously been extremely flexed were now more relaxed, my vision sharpened, and my focus improved.
Kael rotated his shoulders, relaxing. "Then let's raise the bar. If you can hit me, I want to see if you can stop me."
He disappeared again, but now I was prepared. I kept an eye on the changes in Ki, and as soon as I felt it coming, I raised my arms in defense.
The impact was brutal, but I managed to resist. Kael pressed the attack, blow after blow, and I blocked each one, even though I could feel my arms throbbing with the force of the attacks.
"Not bad," he commented, stepping back. "But you're not ready yet."
Before I could react, I felt a punch hit my stomach. My body involuntarily bent, and I was thrown backwards.
This time, when I hit the ground, I couldn't get up immediately. My vision flickered, pain spread throughout my body and a bitter, metallic taste spread in my mouth.
"Coff, coff" I coughed up blood and dirt mixed in my mouth, the taste was terrible.
Laila ran over to me and knelt down beside me. "That's enough! You're going to kill him like that!"
Kael watched her for a moment, then looked back at me. "Do you want to stop here?" he asked.
I took a deep breath. Every fiber in my body was screaming at me to say yes. But my heart knew the answer, no, my soul knew the answer!
I put one hand on the ground and, trembling, stood up again.
"No. I can still go on."
Kael smiled. "Good. Because the real challenge hasn't even begun yet."
The air around me seemed to vibrate. My body was exhausted, but my mind was clearer than ever. Kael watched me with a sharp gaze, evaluating my every move. He knew I was at my limit, but he had no intention of stopping.
I took a deep breath, stabilizing my energy. Every beat of my heart echoed like a drum in my ears. If I wanted to keep going, I had to find a way to push my own limits. It wasn't enough just to resist, I had to fight back.
Kael wasted no time. In the blink of an eye, he lunged forward, his fist coming straight for my face. I reacted instinctively, tilting my head to the side at the last second. The blow glanced off, the cutting wind leaving a burning sensation on my skin. I seized the moment and countered with a direct punch to his abdomen.
To my surprise, my fist met with resistance. It was like punching a steel wall. Kael didn't even move. His eyes flashed for an instant before he grabbed my arm and threw me into the air as if I were a toy.
The sky spun around me before I could regain control. My feet slid across the ground as I landed, kicking up dust. My breathing was heavy, and I could feel my muscles burning with exhaustion. But something inside me kept pushing me forward.
Kael landed a few meters in front of me, crossing his arms. "If you want to win, you have to stop just reacting. Anticipate my moves. Control the battle."
I closed my eyes for a moment, feeling the flow of energy around me. Kael was right. Until now, I had only been trying to keep up with his pace, never dictating the course of the fight. If I wanted to win, I had to change that.
I opened my eyes and let my body relax. It wasn't just about using my strength or my speed. I needed to find the balance between attack and defense, between action and reaction. My ki flowed more steadily, like a calm but powerful river.
I was just beginning to understand this state, but as the battle went on, I was able to improve, now I felt, yes! I could do it.
Kael smiled. "Let's see if you really understand."
He fired again, but this time, I didn't wait. The moment I felt his ki oscillate, I moved first. In an instant, I dodged his attack and reacted with a spinning kick. Kael blocked, but surprise was evident on his face. I continued the attack, shortening the distance and forcing him to retreat.
Our combat intensified. Rapid blows were exchanged, each one faster and more precise than the last. I felt every movement, every vibration in the air. For the first time, I wasn't just fighting - I was dancing with the battle.
Now I can say that I understand how Madara Uchiha felt.
But then, I felt something change.
Kael stopped the fight abruptly and took a step back. His gaze became serious. "Now that you've found your rhythm, let's see if you can keep it."
Before I could reply, he raised his hand and an intense pressure took hold of the room. The floor shook and the air seemed to get heavier. I felt a chill run down my spine - he was raising his ki in a frightening way.
I tried to brace myself, but he was already on the move. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared and reappeared next to me. Before I could react, I felt a crushing impact on my chest. My body was thrown backwards like a projectile, hitting a rock hard.
Pain exploded through my body, but I couldn't stop. My hands pressed into the ground as I forced myself up. My muscles protested, my breathing was irregular, but my determination burned stronger than ever.
Kael watched me, waiting. He wanted to see how far I could go. And I wasn't going to let him down.
My ki increased again, but this time in a different way. Instead of simply releasing energy uncontrollably, I kept it compressed inside me, letting it flow with precision. My body was at its limit, but my mind was sharper than ever.
Kael smiled. "Now, boy. Let's see what you're capable of."
He advanced, and I advanced too.
Our blows clashed in the air, creating waves of energy that made the ground shake. I was feeling everything around me with stunning clarity. Every blow, every dodge, every impact. The world seemed to slow down around me, as if I were seeing everything in real time.
I was no longer just an apprentice. I was evolving. In the midst of that battle, I finally understood: strength wasn't just raw power. It was control, it was instinct, it was knowledge of your own body and your opponent.
And, for the first time, Kael was forced to retreat.
He wiped a trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth and laughed. "Very well. I think that's enough for today."
My breathing was heavy and I could barely stand. But I knew it. I had exceeded my own limits. I had taken a step forward on the path to true strength.
Laila ran up to me, holding my shoulders. "Are you okay?"
I had intentionally steered the battle away from her, I was afraid of hurting her, and Kael didn't disagree, and followed me.
I smiled, even though my whole body ached. "I've never been better."
Kael crossed his arms, satisfied. "Rest well. Tomorrow, we start for real."
My heart raced. If this wasn't real training, then what did he still have in store for me?
But one thing was certain: I wouldn't stop here. I would continue to grow, no matter how hard it got. Because that was the path of a true warrior.
I finally took a good look at myself, and at Kael. My clothes were completely destroyed, only my shorts remained, and a few rags from my shirt.
Meanwhile Kael's dark cloak was spotless, there wasn't even a mark of battle apart from the random smears of dirt and blood.
"Thank you..." I thanked him with my gaze firmly on Kael, I knew, he was just there to train me, although I didn't know exactly why, it didn't change that fact.
Kael gave a lopsided smile and covered his face with his hood. "See you later, kid..." Suddenly Kael seemed to turn into shadows, disappearing from existence like a mist.
My eyes went wide, INCREDIBLE! I NEED to learn that!
"Oh you idiot, I think we'd better go home... you're badly hurt..." Laila squeezed my shoulder lightly, I could feel her worried voice, although she tried to disguise it with insults.
I looked briefly at the sky and let out a sigh. "I'm sorry love, come on please."
...
We arrived at my apartment, and Laila helped me out of my clothes and into the shower... Hey, don't think anything's wrong, I'm literally like a 10-year-old child, it's obvious that nothing would happen.
Besides, Laila and I never got to that point... If it happened now, it would be weird... VERY strange.
Soon I was lying on my bed, Laila had gone into the kitchen to make me some tea while I rested.
"System, open my inventory"
[Ding]
[Inventory]
Senzu beans - 5
With a thought, I took out one of the Senzu beans from my inventory, honestly, I wasn't worried, it's not exactly an expensive item from the system store.
Without even thinking, I tossed the bean into my mouth, chewed and swallowed.
Soon I could feel it, a warm energy, holy shit, I felt like I was on fire, but it's so... good?
God, please don't let me develop some masochistic fetish after the beatings I've had.
Soon I was able to sit down again, and I felt as good as new.
"Holy shit, that really saves lives."
I finally let out a sigh of relief, I was wrecked from the battle with Kael, my whole body was sore, and I could barely move.
But the nagging doubt was still in the back of my mind... who was he?

"FUCK!!!" I let out a cry of excitement, although I was soon silenced by the sound of falling pots coming from the kitchen...
I stared at the door in fear of something coming out of it... and it did.
"IKARIS!!!" Laila entered the room boiling with rage, I could only stare at the sky through my bedroom window, I knew, there was no point in begging for mercy.
....
Things soon calmed down, I received a good beating, but nothing I couldn't handle.
"So, aren't you going to tell me how you're magically whole again?" It wasn't surprising that Laila asked, after all, I was practically falling apart a few moments ago.
"Seed of the gods, I got some from the tutorial."
Laila looked at me skeptically for a moment, but let out a sigh of relief. "Well, at least I won't have to worry about you, I'll have to leave soon."
"Ahnnnn? why are you leaving already??" I instantly felt sad, I didn't want Laila to leave now.
"Today is Sunday, we have school tomorrow, have you forgotten? You can skip it, but you know that if I do, my mother will kill me." Laila sighed, she seemed a bit sad about it too.
"Unfortunately I don't think I'll have you there with me tomorrow, I'll have to get used to it, I'll stop by in the afternoon." She started picking up her things scattered around my room, and her dirty clothes, she didn't have any here, so she was wearing mine.
Honestly, I thought it was really cute, something about the way she looked in my baggy clothes attracted me in an inexplicable way.
Suddenly I thought of something, a brilliant idea!
"Hey system, how does that flying cloud that comes with the reward work?"
[Ding]
[The flying cloud can be used by anyone the host gives permission to].
"Perfect, system, I want to claim the achievement reward!"
[Ding]
[Rewards granted, buy them in your inventory]
I then opened my inventory and took out the flying cloud.
"Hey, sweetie, I've got a present for you," I said in the sweetest voice I could manage, but I could see Laila's frown, she was still angry about earlier.
With a sigh of resignation, I took off the flying cloud and asked the system to give Laila permission.
"You don't have to ask for an uber or walk, it's safer for you to fly, isn't it?" I said with a mischievous smile.
........
Soon I dropped Laila off at home, I decided to accompany her for fear that she might end up falling from the cloud and hurting herself, but it seems I thought too much, the cloud seemed to have a mechanism that prevented whoever was on it from falling, so I said goodbye and went home.
I arrived just in time, my mother had finished cooking dinner, and my stepfather was still sitting at the table... hehe, our battle is going to be LEGENDARY!
