Chapter 60: SS 60: Confrontation, the Arrival of Zero Division
"I have my own judgment." Unohana retorted, unflinching, releasing her own spiritual pressure to clash with Yamamoto's.
Chojiro Sasakibe, caught between them, was pinned to the ground, unable to move.
"Hey, hey, hey…"
"What's with this clash?"
Sensing the collision of spiritual pressures in the First Division, every Gotei 13 captain's eyes widened.
These were the unmistakable pressures of Head Captain Yamamoto and Unohana Retsu.
Were the two millennium captains about to fight?
The thought cast a shadow over everyone's minds.
"You…"
Yamamoto's expression faltered.
He hadn't seen such resolve on Unohana's face in ages.
Since stepping down as Kenpachi, she'd never openly defied him.
To think that after nearly a millennium, Unohana Retsu would clash spiritual pressures with him over something so far-fetched.
"Unohana Retsu, do you realize what you're saying?"
Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni pressed, his voice stern, emphasizing the gravity of her claims.
"I'm perfectly aware and clear about what I'm doing." Unohana replied, her tone unyielding.
A torrential killing intent surged from her.
She knew that without such resolve, Yamamoto wouldn't take her words seriously.
"Very well." Yamamoto said, his eyes narrowing.
Her unyielding stance and spiritual pressure confirmed it was truly her.
Doubt crept into his heart.
"I'll notify the Zero Division." He declared.
"You inform those two criminals."
"I'll convene a meeting of the Gotei 13 captains."
"I hope you can stand by your words."
Yamamoto withdrew his spiritual pressure, closing his eyes.
This was his comrade of a thousand years. No matter how absurd her claims, her resolute demeanor compelled him to trust her this once.
"That's enough." Unohana said.
"This concerns the reformation of the three realms."
"I urge you to treat it with utmost seriousness and set aside your domineering attitude."
Her words caught Yamamoto off guard.
It had been ages since anyone spoke to him so boldly.
But if Unohana's claims were true, this matter deserved his full attention.
"I understand." Yamamoto nodded.
Elsewhere, Urahara Kisuke received Unohana's message.
"She actually convinced the old man." He marveled.
"Only Captain Unohana could pull that off."
Shihoin Yoruichi shared his awe.
As the founder and Head Captain of the Gotei 13, Yamamoto's authority was immense after a millennium in command.
Few dared defy him.
But Unohana, a fellow founder and captain of the same era, held the standing to speak to him as an equal.
"Let's go. Time to return to Soul Society." Urahara said.
He hadn't expected things to escalate so quickly.
His plans seemed to have crumbled.
Whether Unohana's words were true or false, their feud with Aizen would be settled in this event.
If true, they had no choice.
If false, they'd eliminate Aizen.
It was that simple.
At the Fifth Division barracks, Aizen gazed toward the First Division, sensing the clash of spiritual pressures.
"It seems Captain Unohana's talk with the Head Captain didn't go smoothly." He remarked.
"No matter." Kaiser said.
"As long as it accelerates your growth."
"Urahara Kisuke is an excellent ally. Together, you'd be greater than the sum of your parts."
"He'll be a tremendous asset."
Kaiser was unconcerned with the Seireitei's internal conflicts.
If all issues could be resolved at once, he was all for it.
He was tempted to use his Cosmo to forcibly elevate Aizen's power, breaking the limits of the Bleach world.
But that was impossible.
The laws required time to adapt.
Such an act would annihilate the world, failing his deal with the Soul King and yielding nothing.
Meanwhile, Yamamoto had informed the Zero Division.
"A god?"
Hyosube Ichibe, staring at Yamamoto's message, frowned deeply.
Existing for countless years, a contemporary of the Soul King, he had helped quell chaos and establish the three realms.
He'd never heard of a god.
Yet now, Yamamoto reported one in Soul Society?
"Is this for real?"
Nimaiya Oetsu was skeptical.
If not for Yamamoto's name on the message, they'd dismiss it outright.
"What now? Do we go to Soul Society?" Kirio Hikifune asked, looking to Ichibe.
"We go." Ichibe said without hesitation.
"Yamamoto's message carries weight. He's not one for jests."
"We must clarify this."
"But not all of us." He added.
"The Royal Palace needs guarding."
"Nimaiya Oetsu and Shutara Senjumaru, you go. You can handle any sudden issues."
"Understood." The two replied.
They hadn't expected such a monumental issue to arise quietly in Soul Society, involving the Soul King and a supposed god.
"A deal with the Soul King." Ichibe murmured, glancing at the sealed Soul King.
"Are you truly not dead?"
If not for the need to maintain the three realms' stability, he wouldn't have confined his old friend.
But if Yamamoto's report held truth... if this could break the world's limits and free it from the Soul King's shackles... Ichibe was willing to meet this so-called god.
Upon Unohana's notification, Urahara, Yoruichi, and Hachigen returned to Soul Society.
"The air feels nostalgic." Yoruichi said.
"Let's head to the First Division."
Stepping back into Soul Society, their hearts were heavy with mixed emotions.
"A god?"
The word echoed in their minds simultaneously.
Central 46 was completely sidelined, their opinions irrelevant.
They were merely a construct of the five noble families to govern the Seireitei.
Though they held some power, they were powerless against true strength.
"They're here." Yamamoto sensed their familiar spiritual pressures.
He promptly called a captain's meeting, requiring even lieutenants to attend.
"A meeting for captains and lieutenants?"
"Is it tied to the spiritual pressure clash earlier?"
Some whispered among themselves.
The recent collision at the First Division had shocked the entire Gotei 13.
At the Fifth Division barracks, Ichimaru Gin and Tosen Kaname arrived.
They had received Aizen's summons.
"Lord Aizen." Tosen Kaname said, bowing respectfully as Aizen emerged.
Ichimaru Gin maintained his usual squinting expression.
"Let's go." Aizen said, nodding casually at the two.
"Captain Aizen, are you done hiding?" Gin asked, puzzled.
Their trio had always operated in secret within the Seireitei.
But now, Aizen was acting openly... was he ready to confront Soul Society?
"Has your research succeeded?" Gin's narrowed eyes glinted with a cold light.
"No need to hide anymore." Aizen replied.
"Chosen by a god, I've earned the right to transcend."
"My only opponent now is myself."
"Others will either aid me or be swept into the dust of history."
Aizen's warm smile accompanied his words as the three headed toward the First Division.
"The Seireitei's captains and lieutenants are nearly all here." Urahara Kisuke noted, arriving slightly earlier with his group.
Seeing familiar faces, he tugged his hat lower to conceal his eyes.
"Only Aizen, Ichimaru, and Tosen are missing." Chojiro Sasakibe reported to Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni.
"They're here." Yamamoto said, seated at the center.
His eyes opened, and a surge of spiritual pressure targeted the entrance.
Boom!
"Quite the welcome." Aizen remarked, releasing his own spiritual pressure.
Tempered by Kaiser's Cosmo and recent training, he had surpassed the Shinigami limit without the Hogyoku.
Smiling, he pushed back Yamamoto's pressure.
"Aizen!"
Urahara, Yoruichi, and Hachigen sensed Aizen's spiritual pressure, their expressions shifting.
It was far stronger than before.
"He's broken the Shinigami limit?" Urahara muttered.
"No signs of hollowification."
"Aizen, were you truly chosen by a god?"
He struggled to accept it.
Since hearing the news, he'd analyzed it extensively.
Aizen's selection made sense.
Aizen was near perfection... strength, intellect, will, mindset, and an insatiable hunger for power.
His only flaw was his solitary nature, trusting no one and treating others as tools for his experiments.
A dangerous man.
Without that trait, he was flawless, matching the image of the Fifth Division Captain he'd crafted.
"Long time no see, Urahara Kisuke." Aizen said, spotting him.
"Yeah, it's been a while." Urahara replied, as if greeting an old friend.
"What's going on?"
The other captains, unaware of the truth, were baffled.
First, the Head Captain's spiritual pressure clashed with Aizen's. Now, Aizen and Urahara greeted each other like old pals.
Nothing felt normal.
"An interesting scene." Kaiser remarked, having arrived at the First Division undetected.
Hidden deliberately, no one in the Bleach world could sense him.
"Aizen!"
Bang.
Yamamoto's cane struck the ground.
"Is everything Unohana said true?" He demanded.
"The captain hollowifications, Urahara's defection, the yearly disappearances in the Rukongai, the attacks on Shin'o Academy students... all your doing?"
Yamamoto fixed Aizen with a piercing stare, awaiting his response.
"Correct. It was all me." Aizen admitted with a smile, owning his actions.
"What?"
"That's impossible!"
Hinamori Momo, behind Aizen, stared in disbelief.
The other captains gaped at him, incredulous.
"Well, Captain Aizen, looks like you've stirred up quite a mess." Gin said, his expression unchanged.
"We might not get out of this easily."
Tosen, beside him, drew his zanpakuto, ready to fight to the death for Aizen.
Hum!
Aizen unleashed a torrential wave of spiritual pressure.
Everyone, including Yamamoto, felt its overwhelming force.
"I reached the Shinigami limit long ago." Aizen declared.
"But I wasn't satisfied."
"The Soul King is said to be mighty."
"Why can't I claim the Throne of Heaven?"
His indifferent gaze swept over the room.
"Fortunately, I received a god's baptism and approval."
"Now, the world revolves around me."
"I am your hope for reaching greater heights."
Aizen removed his glasses, crushing them, and slicked back his hair with a hand.
His unmasked ambition shone through.
"This spiritual pressure…"
"Damn it!"
The lieutenants were pinned down, unable to move.
Even captain-level Shinigami felt their bodies weighed down like lead, barely able to shift.
"So, your power now comes from this god you speak of?" Yamamoto asked after a pause, his voice heavy with concern.
"You've never seen a god's power." Aizen replied.
"You can't fathom its magnitude."
"My current strength is a mere fraction, a trivial change from the god's baptism."
"If you submit and aid me, breaking the world's limits will grant you this power too."
"The era of the Soul King and Royal Palace is over."
"From now on, it's an era of freedom!"
"Help me shatter the world's shackles."
"Once I transcend, I'll leave this world to you."
"Having glimpsed higher, stronger worlds and powers, I'm done playing house here."
Aizen's sole aim was to break his limits.
He yearned to see the myriad worlds Kaiser spoke of, the boundless realms beyond.
The Bleach world no longer held his interest... it was beneath him now.
As long as he broke the world's limits, Aizen had no qualms about handing it back to these people.
"You've got some nerve calling it 'playing house,'" a voice boomed.
The Tenchuren descended.
Nimaiya Oetsu and Shutara Senjumaru, arriving from the Royal Palace, appeared before the assembly.
"Finally, the Zero Division." Aizen said, eyeing them.
"The so-called strongest force in the three realms."
Their spiritual pressure was formidable, but to Aizen, it was unremarkable.
Kaiser's baptism had shattered his spiritual pressure's limits, sparking rapid growth.
Even Aizen didn't know the extent of his current power.
If these Zero Division members wanted a fight, he'd welcome it.
"Where's this god you speak of?" Nimaiya challenged, scanning the room with a sneer.
"Too scared to show?"
Unohana Retsu's pupils constricted.
She sensed that familiar presence.
"It's over…"
Her heart sank.
"Looking for me?" Kaiser's voice echoed from the heavens.
Golden radiance flooded the First Division barracks.
Boom!
Everyone except Aizen dropped to their knees.
"What is this…?"
Cold sweat streaked down their faces.
