Chapter 149 - Vol. 3 - Chapter 14

"The beasts! They are coming!" shouted the brown haired young man to the second guy wearing leather armor.
"Quickly open the door for Rainhud and Renwick, we can't delay anymore. Archers prepare your weapons, also start boiling the water. I pray that we can drink again tomorrow."
Swiftly as he said that, Rainhud the black-haired young man along with Renwick the brown haired man with a war hairstyle, entered the village, reaching the top of the walls, and they couldn't find Fayrene and the kobold.
"Leader, where is the woman and the weird creature?" asked Rainhud who had a serious expression on his face, clearly having a first impression over Fayrene that marked him.
"The bitch and rat? They run away obviously." replied the middle-aged man with a cold voice, not caring about some women and a weird creature that didn't look strong whatsoever.
"... So it was like this. I understand." replied Rainhub when he received the message from his superior, with a slightly disappointed tone, getting into his position, preparing his arrows.
As the two young boys, Rainhud and Renwick were teamed together, they couldn't help but ask each other a simple question.
"Has that woman really abandoned us too? Even though she told us she will try her best to protect the village." asked Renwick, oiling the top of his arrows with poison.
"I don't blame her, once she heard the stories of the Elder, it would be weird if she would have stayed.
In the end, what would you expect from an outsider?" spoke his mind Rainhud, thinking a bit about the raven-haired beauty, but once the cries of the beasts spread to them, he was no longer bothered by anything except of keeping his family and village alive.
The walls with each minute passing began being attacked by the beasts Fayrene saw inside Elder Kerlian's basement, from mutated wolves, different beasts one would find in a forest from even deers that looked more menacing to birds of prey that also had some deformities.
However as time passed by, Fayrene watched carefully the fight, having casted all the buffs she could possibly cast and was impressed to see how efficiently the villagers handled the beasts in question, but with her player eyes she could see that the level of those monsters was relatively low, ranging from level 30-60.
She could see that the two young men that stopped her in the morning had a level similar to Maryden, being level 81 for Renwick while Rainhub was level 84.
"Mistress, are we going to help?"
"No, let me watch a bit more and observe the abilities of those monsters. It is unlikely that with such beasts the villagers would be so devastated."
Then from a place far away from where she was observing the ensuing fight, something akin to an earthquake started to be felt with the tree she was standing beginning to vibrate a little.
*Thump* *Thump*
She turned her head around, and not being able to see the cause of those tremors, she asked Vek with some worry.
"Can you feel it?"
"Tremors on the tree, something big is coming." mentioned Vek, who glanced toward the forest for long minutes and with his sharp eyes he could stop two large monstrosities that looked similar to small ogre's, walking mountains of muscle capped with horned, tooth-filled heads, and three eyes.
"Mistress, danger! Look at the creature in that direction."
Fayrene, who resumed her utmost attention on the battlefield at the village gates while Vek was on a watch over the forest, turned her head to where Vek pointed.
Her eyes shifted an emotion.
She couldn't see as far as Vek, but once the two monsters whose heft made it even hard planning their downfall
"Fayrene, I am scared. Those beasts look far more dangerous than the insect ones." said Maryden, whispering to Fayrene with her voice trembling at the sight of those two monsters.
The two monstrosities were accompanied by rushing smaller monstrosities the height of a small child about 7 years old but with an appearance resembling a ugly goblin.
[Fiend - Lv. 110] (125.000 HP)
[Nekketsu - Lv. 85] (50.000)
Glancing at their levels as they were passing not far from where she was, she turned her alert up a notch telling Vek to prepare himself and be serious in this fight, and before she could act the fight began at Amphail walls, with the archers starting shooting at the Nekketsu.
"Not like this! Focus shooting the ones in the front, it will slow the rest down." ordered the leader who bad mouthed Fayrene, while Rainhub with Renwick executed, targeting together the weaker monsters in shoots that were synchronized.
"Good! Take those two brats for example! This is how I want each of you to attack at the same time!" shouted the leader, giving orders to his warriors to follow the example of the two youngsters.
"It's too hard to achieve something to that precision like Rain and Ren!" screamed a frustrated warrior who couldn't achieve what the two young archers were pulling off.
"Argh, do whatever you can, just hit your targets." urged the leader, so only those people were fighting.
Volley of arrows could be seen from Fayrene point, but the smaller monsters were numbering 150 and showed that they weren't as fragile as most warriors on the wall thought. It required them to focus ten arrows to take down a single Nekketsu, and by no means the rate they were killing the monsters was fast enough.
Seeing this, she still waited patiently without jumping recklessly in the fight but with each minute passing the villagers struggled even more while the Fiends began attacking the walls resisting the attacks of Rainhud and Renwick and the leaders focusing mainly on attacking the large monsters.
However in that chaos, the desire for survival outweighed the cooperation of people, and right in front of Fayrene's eyes she saw how the two young archers got abandoned by their comrades after being spellbound by the Fiends hypnosis powers coming from their third eye.
"Arghhhh! Where am I? What is going on! The village is burning!"
Both youngsters dropped on the wooden platform, screaming as they got hypnotized by the creatures abilities, and without even caring for them, the warriors kept on retreating their positions, letting the Nekketsu to climb the wooden walls, while the Fiends began attacking the gates.
It was a moment of despair for the common villagers.
Women and children began crying fearing the unknown outcome, triggered by the sighting of the Fiend monstrous head of a elk with three eyes and large twisted antlers. The same was for the warriors who found themselves too weak to push back the attacks, being overwhelmed by their number.
"Retreat!! We have the second line of defense!" shouted the one of the leaders, who gave the retreating order.
"Leader! What about Rainhud and Renwick?" screamed a young warrior, who failed to see the two archers, his own two friends.
"Their position is compromised and have been bewitched by the large monster."
The warriors saw how the two dropped young man screamed in fear, but not from the fight, but because of their nightmares that began twisting their reality. Not far from them the smaller monsters were climbing the wall holding on their monstrous faces a sinister, twisted smile.
"We can't let them die! They are the best archers of the village."
Some younger warrior ignored the orders of his superior and dashed to the two young men to rescue, getting at them before the Nekketsu reached them, and when seeing them the first thing he did was to shake their bodies, hoping this will wake them from the trance.
"Wake up you idiots! You can't die here! What about your dreams of becoming the strongest archers of the Empire? What about your mothers who you will leave alone?"
This young warrior who was telling Rainhud and Renwick those words didn't look at his back focusing solely on his companions, and he noticed the disgusting smell of death approaching him, along with the grunts and primal shouts of the Nekketsu.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Wake up guys! Arghhh, all or nothing, I will take you with me."
In an act of last resort he took the two on his shoulder and tried to make his way out from the platform of the wall, yet the monsters already encircled him.
"Is this our end?" mentioned the young warrior with a desolate tone, unsure what to do in those harsh moments.
"It is not your end now that I heard your call, you'll be fine."
Unsure if he was starting hearing ghosts, or that he also got cursed by the large monstrous monsters.
He thought it was the goddess descending from the Heavens and bringing light upon them, however what he next saw was the figure of a woman wearing a black dress, with her back at him, muttering something slowly.
"[Wave of Force]"
His body was covered into a veil of white-purple light, and not long after a blinding wave was released by the woman in front of him that attacked all the surrounding monsters, creating a chain reaction of agonizing screams of pain.
[You have dealt an AoE hit of 5004 damage triggering the effect 'Knockback']
[Passive Effect 'Taste of Magic' has been triggered, 10 target's will be stripped of a portion of their mana]
[You have recovered 560 MP]
.
Fayrene who received those combat notifications remained calm in the face of the 20 Nekketsu that roared at her with murderous intent, and those monsters immediately charged at this dangerous threat for their lives, the black clothed lady, acting mostly on their primal instincts.
"Be careful!" shouted the young warrior unsure if this woman was capable of fighting against the monsters.
"Don't worry about me, instead watch those two guys carefully. Ohh, and brace yourself because this platform might collapse."
The warrior in question was called Draevyn, a youngster similar in age to the two archers and immediately recognized the woman when she turned her face at him. It was the guest that came to their village with the letters sent by Elder Kerlian.
Draevyn could only do as Fayrene told him, and take Rainhud and Renwick into a stable hold, while their grunts of pain and shouts diminished a bit, as if they felt that someone was protecting them, and what followed next for the young warrior was to observe Fayrene fighting, making out a large ball of strong intensity that she released on the attacking Nekketsu.
'[Arcane Orb]'
Fayrene released her strongest spell to date where she was required to be concentrating of her energy that she was guiding to create this spell, and unlike her beginning attempts that resulted in her right arm being burnt and scarred, without recovering from the scars, she learned her lesson.
The spell released a spinning orb, as if it was an attempt at creating a mini-star, and in its departure with the intent of vaporizing the enemy.
The energy the spinning orb released was akin to the gravity waves that were visible to the naked eyes.
Draevyn was pushed back until he got to the wooden protection, stopping him from falling from the top.
"This is what magic is? Unbelievable!"
Saying that, he saw the orb touch the first target before it exploded capturing all the monsters in Fayrene surrounding, and lucky for him a strong shield enveloped him, stopping the repulsing force of the energy.
From the blinding energy that slowly died down, Draevyn heard the explosion sound along with the screams of pain the monsters released that could bring nightmares to any weak mind.
"It is over?" asked the young warrior, unsure what the conclusion was, but then a cold voice belonging to Fayrene replied.
"No, those monsters are quite resilient, it will require me to cast a second Orb."
Fayrene has a minute cooldown on her spell, but the monsters were wounded from the attacks of the villagers most having their health gauge at half percentage, making Fayrene's life easier as she casted her crowd control spell the 'Impactful Wave' blasting the monsters away from her, making some space to cast another spell, starting her 'Arcane Missile' assault unbothered about her large mana expenditure, only wishing to end this fight faster.
*Shriek*
The monsters pushed ahead, getting closer to Fayrene and almost clawing at her, but from her hands she casted another layer of defense that proved devastating against the low intelligence monsters.
"[Fireflies]"
Just as the spell name implied, she created using her arcane magic fireflies that were flying around her like drones protecting their queen, and as a consequence to the brainless action of the monsters who approached Fayrene they began being burnt, getting their limbs that were reading to harm Fayrene severed by the defending fireflies.
It was a scene never seen by Draevyn who remained silent watching the woman in front of him put on a display of power and courage while fighting the relentless monsters that pushed toward her, until she once again released the exploding orb that at last settled down the confrontation at the walls against the monsters.
"Draev, what is happening? Where are we?" asked with a weak voice, one of the archers that the warrior was protecting from the shockwave of the magic attacks.
"Rain, you finally woke up from that curse of the monster. Can you move?"
"I think so, but what happened, are we alive?"
Draevyn shook his head, and allowed Rainhud to see Fayrene in all her splendor shining with a dignifying white-purple aura while around her the monsters they struggled to kill were turning into gray-ash scattering in the air.
"It is her, she didn't abandon us." remarked Rainhud who was shocked to see Fayrene give off such a dignified aura about herself.
"She didn't."
The boys, even Renwick who woke up from the hypnosis slightly later than his other friend, hear the young warriors explain how they got into this situation, with the leader's orders to give up on them, but lucky for him Fayrene was there to protect him.
Yet in the time the boys were talking Fayrene turned to look down the wall, seeing the monsters climb with aggression especially when they saw Fayrene look at them from the higher ground.
*Scoff* "[Arcane Barrage]"
"[Arcane Missile]"
"[Impactful Wave]
"[Arcane Orb]"
She started spending all her mana into vaporizing the monsters that as a result the ground began shaking with marks of the arcane projectiles painting the ground into the war marks that will decay only with time.
"Arghh."
"Miss! What is wrong?" asked Draevyn, who noticed Fayrene release a cry of pain, even though she wasn't harmed by the monsters.
Fayrene after seeing the part of monsters attacking the walls killed, dropped on her knees and began holding her head that was giving her a head splitting headache that she couldn't control.
Even Rainhud went to her, looking worried and he could see that Fayrene clothes on her arms were burnt, revealing on her right arm a large scar running from her shoulder down her forearm that was pulsing with a dark-purple light.
He was shocked to see such a large scar on a woman so delicate and gorgeous, which made him look at Fayrene differently, and as they asked her about her well, with her eyes shining with the arcane lights and a pained voice. she replied.
"I will be fine. I just overcharged my body with too much mana. For now the trouble with the smaller monsters has been solved. My friend is facing the Fiends."
"Miss, will you be okay? Tell us, can we do something to help you right now?" asked Draevyn, while looking at Fayrene struggling on the floor, gripping her small fists to handle the pain she suffered.
"No, but if you could tell me the situation on the ground level, you might be of help."
"Of course. Leave it to us. Also my apologies for not defending you when the leader bad mouthed you. We have never seen mages, so it would be easy to deem you weak, unable to help."
"Don't worry I haven't taken those words personally. Now stop talking with me, I try not to think about anything."
Saying that, she requested for silence but the sound of people fighting, screaming and shouting was hard to clear out, and she was trying to find a way to clear her mind, until the image of a black-haired young man resurfaced in her mind, telling her with a warm smile.
[Whenever you have a headache, simply breathe in a clean form, not rushed, stable. Take deep breaths and exhale the same way, stable, balanced. You have to oxygenate your brain, this is how I made it easy for me when I explore the Inner Mind.]
'I am trying, darling, but it doesn't work. My head hurts so badly'
Inhaling and exhaling, as she thought of Mathias, she felt him closer to him as she tried to touch the earrings she was wearing, and slowly she felt her Mana Core calm down, beginning showing signs of clearing her headache.
'Darling, I hope you are well. Your Fairy will also be alright, just a bit more and those people will also be fine.'
