Chapter 5: France
-July 26, Paris-
Paris is currently in turmoil, the price of bread is high, and there are criminals out in the streets.
Not to mention the protests.
The reason?
The standard of living of the average french citizen has decreased, food is more expensive. And charles X, the current ruler of france is trying to gain absolute power.
Dissolution of the chamber of deputies, rejection of the electorate in favor of the aristocracy and more.
Trampling on the liberal ideals the french citizens fought for in the french revolution.
"Honey, hows the situation outside?"
Asked the woman
"Very bad, the price of bread increased 2 times over, not to mention, there are criminals out there in the streets, its very dangerous at night"
"How long do you think this will last?"
"I don't know, but we will go protesting tomorrow"
-july 27-
"Brothers and sisters, the cruel aristocrats are back, they are trampling on the freedoms that we fought for in the napoleonic revolution, so come with me, rise up against the monarchy, VIVA LA REVOLUCIA!"
"REVOLUCIA!"
The entire country is on fire, there are protests everywhere.
"Your highness, the protests are getting out of control, you need to find a way to curb it before it gets worse."
Hearing this charles is troubled.
He could send in the army to get rid of the protestors, but it would radicalise the people even more, potentially toppoling the monarchy and establishing a republic.
So instead, he will wait and see, if it gets worse he will just abdicate the throne so that his son can inherit it.
-July 29-
"The situation has deteriorated beyond control your serene highness"
"Good, lets see what charles will do now, either abdicate or risk his head in a revolution, no matter which, The result will be the same."
On the dawn of july 29th
An event that sent shock waves through europe
Charles X announced his abdication, in favore of his son inheriting the throne.
But in another shocking turn of events, Louis-phillipe declared himself the king of france, having gathered the support of the nobility they supported his ascent, not to mention that he had a valid claim to the throne.
And with that the july revolution has come to an end, or as the french call it "3 glorious days"
The result being Louis-phillipe ascending to the king of fance and establishing a constitutional monarchy.
As the news of the success of the revolution spread, it encouraged other revolutionaries to also revolt.
-St.petersburg-
"Alexander, what do you think of the succes of the july revolution?"
Nicholas I asked Alexander, he had his own opinions but also wanted to see what his son had to offer.
"Father, I think we should be vigilant, there already were revolutionary forces in the russian empire, most significant of which are in poland, fighting to resrore and independent polish kingdom"
"There is no doubt that once the news reaches them, they will be filled with fervor and will become more bold in their actions"
On the international stage though, specificlly in the United Kingdom of the netherlands, there will be significant unrest.
Netherlands is divided between protestents to the east and catholics to the west, not to mention that the flemish and wallonians living there also don't get to see the fruits of their labor, being exploited by the dutch.
The july revolution will inspire revolts throughout europe."
Nicholas, having listened to his son is proud, he didn't excpect for him to provide such an excellent answer, especially at such a young age.
If he continues like that he may even consider letting Alexander attend meetings where the discussians about the future of the empire take place.
"Good. You have considered the overall situation, not only of the russian empire but also the international situation, you are now dismissed."
"Thanks father."
As alexander leaves the office there are many thoughts swirling in his mind.
He needs to look as competent as possible brfore his father, so that he could start influencing some decisions, maybe not in a major way but..., rome wasn't built in a day now was it?.
As usual, A servant leads Alexander to his room.
-November 29, Warsaw-
Currently In the military academy of the congress of poland there is a revolt, headed by polish officers, most prominent of which is Piotr Wysocki.
Taking control of the military academy, they wish to make poland independent and restore their glorius days.
"Gentleman, as planned with the military academy now under control we will start spreading the revolution, the french and the belgians succeded, so can we."
The tension in the room palpable, everyone here knows what the consequence of failure is, Death.
Peasents hate the aristocrats that rule over them, getting almost their entire harvest taxed, they are barely able to feed their families.
So when the oppurtunity is presented to them, to get rid of russian rule, they start revolting.
-December 4-
"Your majesty, the poles have started an armed rebellion.
Having heard the news Nicholas I is mad, he giving the poles autonomy in the first place was a mistake.
"Send in Ivan Paskevich to put down the rebellion."
"Wait.
Father, the 1st modern division is ready, I'm confident that they can put down the rebellion without a hitch."
Nicholas I then remembered, he wondered how the progress on that division was going, if it performs as well as his son said it would, then he might consider some limited reforms.
"You have my permission, and remember
stay safe."
Having been granted permission Alexander I is esctatic, so he leaves the room immediatly and calls for Dimitry.
Cause the first battle of the army will be soon.
