Running a Tavern as a Former Witch!

Chapter 12: Narrow

Vernon flashed a wide, almost theatrical grin, his eyes sparkling with a mixture of mischief and wisdom. "Well, well, well, if it isn't our fearless guild leader in the flesh. Always a pleasure to see someone of such impeccable taste and sharp instincts." He gave a small bow, his hand flourishing in the air.

Levi, on the other hand, remained calm and composed. His eyes scanned the room with a calculating gaze, lingering momentarily on the guild leader before shifting to me. "We gathered some interesting tidbits during our little reconnaissance," he said, his voice smooth and measured. "But first, introductions might be in order. I assume you've already met our charming host?"

The guild leader gave a curt nod, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the newcomers. "Indeed. And you are?"

"Vernon, at your service," he replied with a wink. "And this taciturn fellow here is Levi. We’ve been... shall we say, intimately involved in the recent surge of magical disturbances. Our paths seem to be converging quite conveniently, don't you think?"

Levi stepped forward, his expression softening slightly. "We understand the gravity of the situation, guild leader. Our intentions align with yours—we seek to ensure the orb's power doesn't fall into the wrong hands."

The guild leader's eyes flicked between Vernon and Levi, suspicion evident but tempered by curiosity. "If your intentions are true, then you understand why we need to secure the orb."

Vernon’s dramatic demeanor softened, a rare glimpse of sincerity showing through. "Oh, we do. But you see, the orb isn't just a simple artifact. It’s a puzzle piece in a much larger game, one that requires a delicate hand and a discerning mind."

Levi nodded, his eyes locking onto mine. "And our friend here has been thrust into the heart of it all. The orb is already in play, and we must be cautious in how we proceed. Hasty actions could spell disaster."

The guild leader took a deep breath, her gaze shifting to me once more. "If what they say is true, we need to work together. The orb's potential for harm is too great to risk. We must secure it and decide our next steps."

I nodded, feeling the weight of the orb in my pocket grow heavier with each passing moment. "Alright. Let's discuss our plan of action. We can't afford any mistakes."

Vernon clapped his hands together, his dramatic flair returning. "A coalition of minds and hearts! How delightful. Now, let’s get to work before more uninvited guests arrive."

Levi glanced towards the entrance, his eyes narrowing. "Agreed. We have no time to waste."

In the privacy of my quarters, all of us huddled closely. Our words uttered in quiet whispers as we all engaged in our abrupt meeting, keeping in mind that this could easily grow more difficult if we do not take it seriously and act clumsily.

Eamon and Sera took the lead, Levi chimes in once in a while to share his thoughts which proved very insightful. Vernon along with his dramatic way of speaking, shared more findings about the orb fragment. Sera's eyes quickly darted to Vernon, her eyes sharp with curiosity.

According to Vernon, the orb fragment as the way we call it suggests that it is a part of a whole artifact. A very powerful one that can absorb the power of the Heart of Ember if restored to it's original state.

The fact that this mere fragment could already do so much, just imagine what else it could do once it become united with the rest of its piece. The possibility it holds seems intimidating, but the things it could do... makes it so tempting.

Did I wanted to restore my power?
