Chapter 213: The Consequences Are Grave
Police station parking garage.
When the back trunk door was opened, a pungent smell of blood instantly hit them.
A few officers who opened the door immediately couldn't help but bend over and retch.
Henry, whose face had been temporarily operated on and bandaged like a mummy, stood behind Sun Yan, looking at the bloody mess in the trunk with dread, his heart pounding.
The entire compartment was covered in red; window, door, roof, everywhere were pieces of flesh.
Dismembered limbs, every dead officer's face twisted into an expression of extreme terror, chilling to look at.
Thinking that if he hadn't been sitting in the passenger seat then, he would probably have ended up like those officers, dead at the hands of that monster.
Henry quivered as he asked, "What do you think, Mr. Jackson? Do you have a plan? If I hadn't carried the incense ash from the Earth Shrine with me, I probably wouldn't be here talking to you alive. That thing was too dangerous, too strong, far beyond any Evil Spirit cases I've handled before."
"You're quite smart, indeed." Sun Yan nodded.
The incense ash from the Earth Shrine held the power to counter these Evil Spirits, something Sun Yan greatly relied on. Even just a pinch could suppress such malevolent forces.
"About this Mother and Child Evil Spirits matter, I have gathered some clues. If we want to find and eliminate it, I'll need your help," Sun Yan said.
Henry quickly nodded, "Father Jackson, just say the word. Whatever you need, I'll do whatever it takes to help you."
Having witnessed the danger of the Mother and Child Evil Spirits firsthand, Henry was utterly repulsed by it now.
He would stop at nothing to eliminate this spirit.
"Here's the thing. Recently, is there a real estate group illegally demolishing properties at Saint Anna City's 13th District? I need you to investigate the identities of these people, especially the identity of their mysterious boss," Sun Yan said.
"This..."
Hearing that he needed to investigate the real estate group, Henry's expression turned somewhat troubled.
Everyone knew that in America, business groups wield substantial power, and those who could engage in real estate have untold numbers of officials backing them.
Getting into a conflict with them, even for a police chief like Henry, would inevitably cause trouble.
"Can't do it? Let me tell you, this is the most reliable method right now. If you don't find out the identity of that businessman, more people will die, and the situation will worsen. Don't blame me for not warning you," Sun Yan said calmly.
He didn't concern himself with the possibility of the Mother and Child Evil Spirits becoming harder to deal with through murder.
With three Tomb Guardians on his side, Sun Yan had long surpassed those Evil Spirits in strength, having embarked on the path to becoming a god through handling filth.
No matter how the Mother and Child Evil Spirits grew, they would die if spotted by Sun Yan.
No life spared under the Mountain-Cracking Axe.
Thus, Sun Yan wasn't concerned about whatever chaos the Mother and Child Evil Spirits would cause in Saint Anna City for revenge. He would handle it in due time.
The only difference would be the number of people who would perish at the hands of the Mother and Child Evil Spirits.
"Fine, I'll have someone investigate right away. Just give me some time." Henry said through gritted teeth.
Feeling the pain from his nose, Henry was filled with dread. He really didn't want to encounter that thing again in Saint Anna City.
Sun Yan had to act quickly to resolve the Mother and Child Evil Spirits to ensure Saint Anna City's safety.
...
Nighttime, 13th District.
As the oldest district in Saint Anna City, most of the buildings in the 13th District were old, generally not exceeding five stories.
A few months ago, local news spread that a real estate group named "Rekton" planned to acquire most of the houses in the 13th District.
Yet, it did not cause much reaction in Saint Anna City, and the residents of the 13th District were completely unfazed.
Simply because the compensation offered by the Rekton real estate was far too low, barely enough to buy a new house.
Thus, once the demolition agreement was signed, the residents would end up on the streets.
With not many willing to move out of the 13th District, a gang of thugs suddenly appeared half a month ago.
They forcibly smashed residents' doors and windows and brought excavators to demolish buildings, scaring off many residents.
The remaining residents quickly formed a resistance alliance, causing some trouble for the black forces.
From that day forward, strange things began to happen.
Residents in the 13th District started to disappear continuously, and the voices of resistance grew weaker.
Many were forced to leave the 13th District, aware that those who disappeared were truly gone from this world.
Outside a collapsed residential building, an excavator with an iron ball was clearing the remaining intact stairs.
A few big men stood nearby, smoking, and said, "Another one bites the dust. Lately, those tenants aren't resisting much. The progress is picking up; at this rate, we should be able to demolish the entire district in a month."
"What's the boss planning, tearing down the whole 13th District at once?"
"We're not to question the top matters. The boss pays us, we get the job done according to the rules."
"Yeah, don't look for trouble. You don't want to end up disappearing because you know too much, right?"
The group of thugs laughed together.
Tat-tat-tat.
Just then, footsteps sounded from a distance, making the thugs turn their heads.
A staggering figure approached; a thug impatiently shouted, "Construction here, get lost."
He brandished his taser, sparking with electricity.
However, the person didn't retreat, continuing to walk toward them.
The thugs sensed danger and, in unison, pulled out guns from their pockets, aiming at the shadow.
As the shadow got closer, under the lights, a pale face became visible.
Seeing the face, terror immediately crossed the thugs' faces.
Before they could react, something emerged from the woman's abdomen and pounced on one of them.
"Ah!"
A fountain of blood erupted as the thug hadn't even the time to react, his throat torn by a malformed, formless baby with only a mouth.
The umbilical cord wrapped around the man's throat, tightening.
Within mere breaths, his neck snapped, his head flying off.
"Monster!" The others exclaimed, startled, and began shooting at the baby, but to no avail.
Bullets pierced the baby without causing any harm.
Swish!
The baby moved like the wind, swiftly chomping through the thugs' throats, leaving them collapsed in blood, a sinister smile forming.
The thug in the excavator was completely unaware of the outside happenings.
Focused on his work, a pale face materialized outside the window; glass shattered, and the female corpse reached in to detach his head.
"Not him, not him, I have to find him, find him... kill him..."
The voice gradually faded, leaving only blood and bodies behind, no trace of the Mother and Child Evil Spirits.
