Chapter 722: Each of their Stance (14)
Ruth looked at these soldiers and nodded.
She looked at her hand and then chuckled lightly.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
As she forcefully stuffed the meat into her mouth and swallowed, Ruth saw that there were more rank 7 magic beasts coming from the distance. She knew very well that even if these soldiers might be able to stop them or perhaps kill them through some ways, it would be a battle filled with sacrifice.
Ah…
She really didn't want to see it.
Feeling soft hearted, Ruth chuckled to herself.
Perhaps, she was too used to the cold blooded, indifferent, and selfish people in that world that she was unconsciously assimilated like them. That she forgot that on the Green Planet, there were still many people who cared for others and even if they thought that they could have a bright future, they would unconsciously sacrifice themselves.
'Why do I want to reach the peak?'
There were many people who wanted to reach the peak in that world and it was a dream for countless people. It was said that someone who had reached the peak could control other people's live and death. They could also life forever and have the most comfortable life.
It was filled with beautiful description that was hard to believe.
Ruth often listened to those things and also felt that some words made sense but some others didn't seem to be that way.
After coming back to the Green Planet, she followed the same steps as she used to be and trained hard.
Her goal?
To reach the peak.
But looking at the devastated planet and the people who were dying in front of her… Ruth felt that reaching the peak would be meaningless.
Could reaching the peak bring the deaths back to the living?
That's ridiculous.
Ruth looked at these people and then chuckled. Seeing that more rank 7 magic beasts had come closer, she simply stretched her bow as arrows formed once more.
Without the obsession to have the most perfect foundation… Ruth felt that she has been liberated.
Swish! Jleb! Jleb!
*roar!*
These rank 7 magic beasts fell down before they could come any closer and Ruth looked over indifferently. She coughed some blood and then simply stuffed more of the magic beasts' meat into her mouth.
Right now, she just wanted to recover her mana as much as possible so that she could deal with these magic beasts.
"Miss Ruth! Don't force yourself." The soldier nearby was distressed when he saw Ruth coughing up blood. They all knew that Ruth is a precious returnee and everyone valued her greatly.
So seeing her forcing herself like this, they felt that they should stop her before it reached the point of no return.
"I'm fine," Ruth replied calmly.
"But…"
"I have to deal with the rank 7 magic beasts," Ruth said calmly.
The soldiers looked at Ruth and then gritted his teeth. "But we can't hinder your advancement. This is the agreement that everyone has agreed to that at the most critical moment, your safety is the most important."
For Ruth to be allowed to stay in Continent Z, the higher ups had made the promise that they would keep Ruth save and will never force her to do anything that she didn't want to. Besides, Ruth herself had no interest of going back to Continent W, so not many people talked about this matter.
Ruth herself didn't care.
The people in Continent Z didn't mistreat her and if anything, they treated her like a little ancestor that she was a bit overwhelmed.
Only Dina was not giving her any good face but Ruth herself didn't have any good impression of the other party. The two of them were basically clashing against each other when they were in that world and this continued in this world.
Neither of the two cared too much about it.
And for the grievances between the returnees, the higher ups didn't have any intention of interfering with it. After all, they didn't know the details and didn't want to be dragged into a mess.
"No one is forcing me," Ruth said calmly as she looked at the soldier who was protecting her. "This is my decision."
The soldier frowned.
Before he could say anything else, Ruth continued, "Besides, I don't want to see people dying in front of me when I obviously have the chance to save them."
Just because she wanted to preserve herself, she watched these soldiers and other people die in front of her?
If this was that world where everyone was selfish and only care for themselves, then Ruth might not have much thoughts. Because it was the norm for them to sacrifice other people if it was possible to save themselves.
They didn't care about others.
Ruth herself didn't want to sacrifice others but would not say anything about their behavior.
But the Green Planet was clearly different. These soldiers were protecting her because they needed her to deal with the rank 7 magic beasts. Their motives might not be pure, but their willingness to sacrifice their own lives for the sake of the people behind them…
It would be a lie if Ruth said that she was not moved.
There were not many selfless people.
And facing these kind of people… Ruth just hoped that they would not have to trade their lives for her.
'Carrying the lives of others on our back is not easy.'
"That…" the soldier looked at loss and saw Ruth's determined expression. He could only nod solemnly. "Yes, but please don't hurt yourself."
"Don't worry, I know my limit." Ruth smiled and then stuffed more meat into her mouth. She had to recover as much mana and stamina as possible. After all, she didn't want to die just because she wanted to kill a few more rank 7 magic beasts.
It would not be worth it.
She wanted to live.
So even if she decided to fight with her all, she will definitely make sure that she could safely pass through this magic beasts' tide.
