Chapter 72: It's My Battlefield and I'll Die if I Want To

I tried to conjure any magic, anything. Tried to will even [Infernal] magic into existence, it lived shortly, but it didn't last long within the palm of my hand.

All those flames dispersed instantly, and the ground shook. Weight began to fall on me twice more. Even if there was nothing there, I felt my own body being squeezed towards the ground.

Cloudjumper held out her hand, the gauntlet one, in a clawed position. [Basic Gravity Manipulation], of course. Just right when I wanted to drop my guard too…

"In 55 seconds, your spine and most of your bones will be crushed by my amplifying gravity. Within 25 seconds, your eardrums will burst and the clenching of your own teeth will shatter," She says.

"You have 10 seconds to show me truly, if you are the Sovereign of Strife and Ruin."

Are we serious? She's not wrong, the gravity being pushed against me is gradually increasing, and picking up as well. I didn't even know she was capable of [Gravity] magic, that's…insane. Her magic prowess just becomes more impressive the more I fight her.

Then…that also explains why my [Inferno Bind] spell vanquished earlier, she was going to trap me with her [Basic Gravity Manipulation] right then and there! Still, as of now, all of the weight was on me. Just like my [Touch of Lightning] spell, it wasn't global, it was enemy-tracked.

But still…that much pressure from such a basic tier move? I would've mistook it for an Advanced or Mastered variation had I not seen her hand motion. No, exactly—she has to be amplifying it somehow.

Redirecting all of the flow into a simple manipulation spell, how far are her mana reserves to continuously pour mana into this? It must be both extensive and deep. Both impressive, and another time where I couldn't help but underestimate Cloudjumper.

I outstretched my arm, tried to move my legs, but I couldn't, I simply couldn't. The pressure was too great. The ground shook, and at this rate it felt as if I might be pulled down to the core of the planet.

I'm stuck, but I could barely see Cloudjumper's face. She might be disappointed, that I'm not giving her what she wants. She wanted to see real Sovereign power, but even at this stage I can't show you, I'm sorry…

Should I use my True Name, right now? Could I? Vaniti doesn't even know, she's still occupied with Koga. What fi she's struggling just as I am right now? What if?

"Go ahead! Speak!" Cloudjumper called out again, but even her voice sounded muffled. I wouldn't dare chant the True Name now…I wouldn't gain anything from it. Surrender control to him, and absolutely nothing would happen.

Plus…I don't even know if I would retain full control. As of now, there's nobody in the island strong enough to be my failsafe if things go wrong. If they were hiding right now…it still wouldn't be a risk I want to take.

I try to move my jaw, but with the amplified gravity it's almost like it's sewn shut. There goes half of my spells that need it. Chanting focuses the intent and helps shape the mana. Words, I know, but it stabilizes the outcome of it.

Without that, spells would get really, really chaotic. I don't need that right now when I'm literally trying to hold myself back. And not to mention I can't perform any notions or gestures subtitituing for the vocal incantation…it would just get worse.

I could use a spell multiplier…but it just won't work without the incantation, forget the mental intent of it.

But I don't have enough time…! That's the thing! In mere seconds, I could be crushed and my guts would be all over the ground!

Sorry Cloudjumper! But I don't want to die here! Please, forgive me!

Trying to move my jaw, my fingers, I quickly spike my mana long enough. Pouring more mana did I ever did into this one spell before. It's going to be chaotic as ever, but I sincerely don't have a choice! Here it comes!

[Lightning Magic: Storm's Fang Supercharged!]

It took a little moment for the spell to activate, but sooner or later. It came. Cloudjumper never noticed the long wind-up for the Supercharged spell, maybe because she was far too invested into me.

But then, we both heard it. The cracking sound of thunder.

The skies became dark, gray. Usually this move would've been different, but with no other accessway. Nature had to bow down to my call.

Cloudjumper looked up, and he grip on the spell lessened. I could slowly get up, but then she looked right down back at me.

"What…what are you trying to pull of…?! Huh?!" She extended her arm again, about to use the same spell again, before we both heard it again.

The screech of a dragon.

From above in the dark clouds, white lightning coursed throughout. I slowly moved my arm around, and then, I could slowly feel stands of my hair being lifted.

Then, Cloudjumper's jagged hair as well. She noticed it before I could say anything. Because in reality, there's no way we could dodge it, perhaps I could, but I'm still suffering under the effects of her gravity spell.

She lessened the pressure, not removed it entirely.

And before I knew it, we happened to both look up, and see a white dragon—made purely out of lightning descend upon us. In such a flash, my [Dragon's Authority] proc'd. But I couldn't move out, no. It was already too late.

Cloudjumper could only look up in shock, and realize this was made purely out of desperation. Even I wasn't sure how we would survive, much less her. She barely managed to survive my earlier spell, what could she do against a Supercharged variant?

Nothing, I suppose.

Hearing it screech again felt like the sound of death calling out to the both of us. And when it landed, it came with sudden impact and with a large bang, accompanied with a large great flash.
