Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 196: Fierce Battle Against the Corpse Dog Pack (Part 7)

Can you imagine a scene where a person is repeatedly bombarded by "shells"? The zombie dog seemed intent on targeting Wang Daguo, constantly launching collision attacks against him, now to the left, then to the right, tirelessly.

Although this approach couldn't cause Wang Daguo substantial harm, the psychological impact was immense.

Furthermore, the continued attacks from the corpse dog left Wang Daguo unable to let down his defenses for even a moment. Over time, he felt his right hand was nearly failing, the congested blood vessels were bright red, some even ruptured and seeped through to the surface.

Wang Daguo struggled to defend himself, even though he did nothing, the depletion of his endurance was comparable to running a five-kilometer cross-country trek, his heavy panting was loud like a bellows brimming with air, constantly emitting "wheezing" sounds.

In contrast, the zombie dog was like a perpetual motion machine, not only showing no signs of fatigue or dizziness, but instead, after completing this series of running, jumping, and turning motions, it became even more excited.

With its relentless efforts akin to a "Little Qiang," the cardboard Wang Daguo used to guard his body was rapidly diminishing at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Almost every time the corpse dog struck, it was accompanied by scenes of flying paper scraps.

Looking at the shredded paper powder floating in the air, Wang Daguo knew the time left for him was limited; he had to do something. If the shield broke, he'd be no different from a lamb waiting for slaughter.

But the corpse dog didn't intend to give him any opportunity to think, perhaps sensing the thinning of the "shield" thickness, its attack frequency increased significantly.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Wang Daguo was tossed left and right like a punching bag. Fortunately, he had built a sturdy physique from frequent fieldwork, otherwise, just the corpse dog's nearly "steel awl" impact would be enough to crack his skin and bones.

Undoubtedly, Wang Daguo still had no chance to counterattack, but the continuous impact fanned a spark of anger within him.

After all, he was a person! An adult! An adult with blood and flesh and personality!

Although fear, dread, and various negative factors suppressed his supposed "manly" courage within, as the zombie dog unabashedly toyed and teased him as a plaything, his courage was successfully triggered.

Once a person's courage is triggered, it means they will move from one extreme to another.

Adrenaline began to significantly mobilize all sensory nerves in the body, making him become more alert and responsive than usual.

All these reactions manifested in reality as Wang Daguo's attention became highly focused, no longer disturbed by external influences, his numb and swollen arms seemed reborn and returned to normal.

Of course, Wang Daguo, who had farmed for many years with little education, didn't understand what these changes happening to him meant.

However, his mind was clearer and calmer than ever before.

He kept his eyes closely following the zombie dog's rapid movements, and when it lunged to collide with the cardboard, every move appeared slowed, like being subjected to a slow-motion button.

It's beyond doubt that these slow-motion scenes weren't because the zombie dog's movements truly slowed down, but rather a false impression from Wang Daguo's intensely focused vision.

Thanks to this "false perception," after a couple more continuous repetitions, Wang Daguo basically grasped the corpse dog's movement trajectory and its strike landing points.

As a predator, the corpse dog's thinking was fairly simple; its half-hour of antics had only one aim: to shred the brown "armor" before its prey.

With the thinning thickness of the upper armor as seen now, its plan was about to succeed, perhaps its next attack would fully break through the "armor's" defenses, thereby tearing the flesh of the prey beneath.

However, Wang Daguo had already seen through its strategies, and not only that, his fast-acting brain had decided on measures to counter them.

A full 7, 8 minutes since the fight started, this was the first time Wang Daguo had the thought of counterattack, and it came at this critical juncture concerning life and death.

His eyes subconsciously glanced at the weakest area of the "shield," where the frequent attacks from the corpse dog had torn away and scratched, leaving only a thin sheet of paper.

And it was this thin sheet of paper that led Wang Daguo to be certain the corpse dog's next attack would most likely target it.

Though using a sheet of paper as a 'Gate of Yin Yang' concerning life and death with the dog seemed less appropriate, in reality, the ensuing contact between the two sides definitely was...

Wang Daguo gripped a piece of steel rod tightly; it was a tool he personally honed and crafted after returning from the village. During the previous battle, he found rigid objects were even more useful than blades, prompting him to grind a slender steel rod into a spike to serve as a self-defense weapon for this mission.

There's no doubt now was the time to test the utility of this weapon.

Under the blazing sun, the corpse dog once again charged wildly toward Wang Daguo. Its previous attack had shown it that the prey's "armor" was about to break, it seemed to have caught the scent of the delicious flesh encased within the armor.

The bloodthirsty nature spurred it faster and faster, and in a blink, it was at Wang Daguo's front.

Jump! Leap!

With the corpse dog's strong hindlegs pushing, its entire body lunged forth like a marlin leaping from water.

The speed was so fast, the force so fierce, even the wind from its swift pressure could be heard.

It's coming! Wang Daguo's eyes squinted together, his whole body's neurons all entered combat readiness, waiting for the brain's command to attack.

30 centimeters, 20 centimeters, 10 centimeters, as the corpse head enlarged before him, Wang Daguo firmly maintained his defensive posture; finally, at the moment the corpse paw tore through the cardboard and penetrated in, Wang Daguo's prepared left hand finally acted.

Grip the Steel Awl horizontally, with a mighty force like thunder, Wang Daguo almost brushed the top of the corpse paw as he thrust it out fiercely.

Time seemed to freeze at this moment!

A person, a corpse;

A hand, a paw;

Beside a thoroughly pierced shield;

Both sides exerted all their might, life and death were decided.

A large pool of blood oozed down, positioned at the other side of the field, Wang Qiang just turned around and happened to witness the standoff between man and dog.

He could clearly see the continuously flowing and dripping blood, but he couldn't tell whether it came from the human or the dog, because...
