Chapter 176: Desperate Rescue (Part 1)
"Xiaoquan! What are you planning to do?" Seeing his brother's anxious and panicked appearance, Wang Qiang was a bit baffled!
"It's like this, if I'm not mistaken, Brother Hu is planning to charge in to rescue us," Tang Xiaoquan replied.
"What? Charge in?" Wang Qiang raised an eyebrow, clearly finding it unbelievable.
After all, the main entrance was currently surrounded by a dense pack of zombies, not to mention, there was a large iron gate standing there. If Brother Hu just charges in, wouldn't it...
Before Wang Qiang could think it through, Wang Daguo impatiently interjected, "Then let's hurry down and guard the place, so we can open the door for them!"
"Exactly! Exactly!" Hearing that Daguo voiced what he was thinking, Wang Qiang quickly agreed.
"No! There's no time!" Tang Xiaoquan resolutely refused, not hesitating for even a second.
Of course, the truth was, Tang Xiaoquan had considered Wang Daguo's proposal, but given the urgent situation, and the truck's current speed, it would probably have charged in before everyone could get downstairs.
So they absolutely couldn't let opening the door slow down the truck, as doing so would reduce its ramming advantage, thus putting Brother Hu and the others in danger.
"Then what do you say we should do!" Seeing his suggestion flatly rejected, Wang Daguo became somewhat anxious.
But it was understandable for him to react this way, as anyone would be prone to losing their composure in a life-or-death moment.
Tang Xiaoquan didn't care about the other's emotions. To be honest, he had no time for that right now. After estimating the general height from the rooftop to the ground at the main entrance, he responded expressionlessly, "In a moment, we'll jump down from here!"
"Damn! Jump down?" Wang Qiang's eyes widened like saucers.
"Yes! Jump down!" Tang Xiaoquan remained indifferent, and just as he finished surveying the terrain, Hu Xiaodong's booming voice suddenly cut through the air.
"Xiao Tang, stay at that position! We're charging in to get you!" Even as he spoke, Hu Xiaodong vigorously slapped the truck's roof, indicating to Zhao Yunhai inside that they were ready!
Instinctively tightening the seatbelt across his chest, Zhao Yunhai kept his eyes forward as he said to the person next to him, "Xiao Cheng, get ready! We're going to crash through!"
Indeed! The swarm of zombies ahead was less than a hundred meters away and would be reached in no time.
Zhao Yunhai was no stranger to such insane acts. Before becoming a college professor, he had done many wild things, but for a near-suicidal charge like today, it was definitely his first time.
As the speed continued to climb, Ah Cheng's face turned increasingly pale, his back pressing tightly against the seat, his eyes filling with panicked emptiness.
To think he was about to crash headlong into a mob of undead; Zhao Yunhai could only lament how fate toyed with people. Normally, he wouldn't even run a red light, but now...
For his comrades! For his family! For that so-called "hope of survival"! He had no choice!
Resolutely flooring the gas pedal, Zhao Yunhai concentrated to his utmost, prepared for the "battle" that lay ahead.
Ten seconds later, with a loud "bang," the first unlucky "soul" at the front was predictably hit by the truck's powerful momentum, sent flying off the ground.
With the flight of that "unlucky soul," the truck began its rampage.
Like an enraged bull, the iron-cast truck roared as it rampaged through the horde of zombies.
The zombies barely had time to react before flying and crashing under the fearsome impact that tore through their brittle bodies.
In an instant, the long zombie line turned into a purgatorial killing field, with the truck paving a bloody, gruesome path.
Shattered limbs, exploded skulls, and various viscous liquids quickly splattered across the windshield.
Driving under such harsh conditions, Zhao Yunhai's visibility was undoubtedly challenged to the utmost.
Fortunately, Zhao Yunhai kept his nerves tightly wound, eyes locked forward. So as the truck approached the small building, he decisively slammed on the brakes, jerking the steering wheel left.
"Screech!" From extreme motion to a sudden stop, the abrupt inertia sent the truck skidding in place, leaving a terrifying arc as its nearly-bald tires raised a huge cloud of dust from the emergency braking.
In the dust, dozens of zombies standing dumbly were flung meters away by the swerving truck body, and even those few "lucky ones" farther from the vehicle couldn't escape the stones kicked up by the tires.
It wasn't easy for Hu Xiaodong at the back, either, as he felt like a lone boat in the ocean; despite preparing extensively for the impact and grabbing the truck railing with max effort, he was helpless against nature's centrifugal force.
His body was violently slammed against the railing, and Dazhuang didn't fare much better; however, thanks to his frequent experience riding this type of vehicle, he didn't end up like Hu Xiaodong, who was thrown to the ground.
Struggling to get up, Hu Xiaodong likely felt this was his most embarrassing moment; he never thought he'd lose to brute force, but today, nature had taught him a harsh lesson.
Head spinning, Hu Xiaodong managed to stand, but before he could stabilize, a fiercer impact hit.
"Boom!" With a massive noise, the tightly shut iron gate was smashed wide open, and Zhao Yunhai could clearly see the windshield fracturing like a spiderweb under the immense force.
He and Ah Cheng were simultaneously hurled forward by the inertia, painfully slamming their backs.
Dizzy, Zhao Yunhai felt he was on the verge of dying, the swaying nearly knocking him out cold.
Holding back intense pain, Zhao Yunhai frantically yanked the handbrake at the last moment, fortunately preventing the truck from crashing into the building.
The truck came to a halt, and Hu Xiaodong and Dazhuang, groggily shaking their battered bodies, slowly stood up from the back. But before they could catch their breath, the regrouped, fearless zombie horde was closing in again.
Another race against time had arrived!!
