Roar of the Anjanath

Chapter 16: Volcanic activity

It has been over a year, and Astera is expecting the arrival of the newly formed fifth fleet. The excitement in the air is palpable for rumor has spread amongst the experienced hunters that the next generation of monster slayers have all made it on the A-list, a feat not many newbies can achieve.

On the seas within the new world we see a fleet of ships, bustling with activity as a new journey awaits. The new recruits laugh and feast, while the palicos bustle about to keep everything in high spirits.

"This will be great! we have a once in a lifetime opportunity Infront of us!"

"Yeah, our names will go down in history!"

"Hahaha, maybe we'll make elder dragons cower before us!"

The hunters laugh at the prospect of making a living catastrophe run away from them. An elder dragon? scared? the chance of that is slim to none.

As they continue to daydream of the fame and fortunes that await them, the ship suddenly jerks, causing many to stumble. "HEY, what's going on?" one of the rookies asks, covered in his drink due to the sudden motion. Then, to the panic of many, the ship begins to tilt to the side. Food and palicos alike fly about, some colliding with other people, causing them to fall as well. Many attempt to hold onto furniture that was nailed down to the floorboards, while others make their way to the windows to see what's going on.

"Hang tight! try not to get flung overboard!"

"Hey is it me, or is it getting hotter?"

"Yeah, now that you mention it it is pretty hot"

"Good Lord, where's the ocean!?"

Many of the hunters, now gaining some semblance of order, begin to believe they had crashed into the side of a really large sea volcano. Noting the lack of water nearby, many panic once more.

Suddenly, one of the other A-listers pulls out a horn and blows. The somewhat frenzied wyvern wrestlers all stop to see where the noise came from. "Everyone, RELAX! we will get through this as long as we keep calm. Lets from teams to deal with the problem. Team 1-"

As the now leading A-lister was giving directions, the boat began moving again, however it seemed to be going... up?, confused, the hunters were about to head back to the windows, when they heard a sound that froze them in place. It was a mix between an explosion and a siren, a unexpectedly elegant yet still chilling sound. The worse part is that the sound seem to come from right below them.

A hunter rushes down from the top deck, face drained of all of its color. "This is BAD! the boat didn't get stuck on a volcano, its on the head of ZORAH MAGDAROS!" The shout made many break out into a cold sweat.

The commission had briefed all on this soon to be target, but they still couldn't help but shiver with how close they are now to the living volcano. As if Zorah has had enough with the makeshift hat, its forelimbs lifts, causing the boat to begin teetering off the side of it's molten shell. The boat, to the horror of the inexperienced A-listers, falls towards the ocean, speed increasing towards terminal velocity.

To their fortune, the boat manages to not topside, keeping them afloat for the time being. The waves churn as the ship bobs up and down, attempting to stay stabilized within the chaotic sea. The A-listers, now sure they wont be shipwrecked for the time being, watch as Zorah Magdaros begins to make landfall.

(Ancient forrest, Evans)

For an entire year, Evans has decided to stay low, betting that the commission would turn its focus elsewhere. Sure enough, his gamble paid off as not a single hunter has come by to intentionally bother him in his abode above the clouds. Evans wasn't sure at first about taking this nest, as it had once belonged to a red rat in the sky, however, after giving it a try, he could see why the Rathalos chose this place. Great view, lots of sun, and Even enough Foliage to hide himself when a hunter comes by.

The hunters that decided to stick around for too long met 'unfortunate accidents' as they fell from the top of the Grand tree. Today, Evans was out on his usual patrols, gathering food and warding off annoyances as usual, when he spots two things. The first, to his amusement, was the kulu-ya-Ku form the Wildspire waste. It was still mostly featherless, but some have begun to to grow back, leaving a mostly spotted bird covered in leaves and fuzz. Seeing Evans, the egg-thief lets out an alarmed chirp before dashing off, not wanting to deal with another roar to the beak. Letting it run, Evans makes his way in further to then spot a pukei-pukei. This one seemed different though for it had poison dripping from its maw, and agitated feathers springing up. Evans head rearing up into its sight probably didn't help either, as the creature, uncharacteristically brave, shot five poisonous globs at the [Hell ignitor].

Curious, Evans sidesteps the shots, watching as they corrode the ground nearby. "Strange...usually these things fly off when they see me." as he was contemplating the strange act, the poison spitter swung its tail, attempting to bring Evans down. However, due to being half the size of Evans, the best it could do without taking to the skies was hitting his leg. The pukei-pukei hisses as its tail recoils from Evans, unaffected and now bored of the wyvern. "You should, rest, its not good for your feathers if your this agitated." Not understanding what Evans is saying, it rushes forward, only to be slammed into the ground by Evans' foot, unconscious yet still alive. "Well that was...something." As Evans was getting ready to head home, he hears it. The roar. Sulfur raining from the air. And to top it off, a bright red light in the distance. "Finally here huh? GOOD." If any were to see Evans face now, they would have thought they saw the face of a demon, as, with a malicious, toothy grin, Evans slipped away right under the commission's nose towards the great Ravine.
