(Illyasviel's POV)
Scáthach's gaze cut through the distance between us like a sharp blade, slicing the air and making my heart race. I could feel the overwhelming pressure of her presence, a force that seemed to bend reality itself around her. I took a deep breath, summoning the strength of my Servant, SĂdon, who manifested around my body with a bluish glow, his pulsating energy merging with mine.
"Get ready," I whispered to Rin, Sakura, Seekvaira, and Medusa. Each of them was tense, their bodies poised to react to any movement, but the silence that followed was heavy, almost unbearable. It was as if time itself hesitated, unsure of what would come next.
The training field was enveloped in a strange stillness, a stark contrast to the fierce battle that had taken place moments before. The labored breaths of Rias, Sona, Akeno, and Medea were the only sounds echoing, mixing with the soft whisper of the wind that caressed the mountains of the underworld.
Scáthach stepped forward, the blade of her Gáe Bolg spear gleaming menacingly under the dim light. Rumix Phenex, by her side, remained silent, watching with a gaze that combined concern and unshakable calm. The energy around Scáthach seemed to vibrate, growing in intensity, as if the air around her was about to explode into flames.
"Now it's our turn," Medusa declared, her voice low but filled with cold determination. She stepped forward, positioning herself between us and the threatening figure before us. Her stance was firm, the chains of her Viper Stone Whip slithering across the ground with a sinister hiss. I knew Medusa was a force to be reckoned with, but even so, the challenge before us was daunting.
Sound of chains dragging on the ground, a threatening hiss echoing in the air.
"Don't underestimate this fight," Seekvaira murmured, her eyes fixed on Scáthach, as if trying to decipher every move, every intention. She adjusted her posture, the power of her time magic materializing around her like an aura of green energy. "We're dealing with a living legend, a warrior who transcends time."
Rin and Sakura exchanged a glance, a silent understanding passing between them. Both summoned their Servants, the energy flowing visibly, creating an aura that enveloped them like protective shields. They knew that despite their combined strengths, the confrontation with Scáthach would be a true trial by fire.
Sound of energy crackling, like static electricity in the air, accompanied by a low, growing hum.
Scáthach, for her part, remained still for a moment, her expression unchanged, but her eyes... there was something in her eyes, a depth that seemed unfathomable, as if she were measuring each of us, calculating the potential we carried and the dangers we posed.
Then, she moved. It was a subtle movement, almost imperceptible, but I felt the air around me grow denser, heavy with anticipation. My body reacted instinctively, muscles tensing in readiness, as SĂdon increased his presence around me, ready to defend.
CLANG!
Scáthach's spear cut through the air with a sharp whistle, colliding with Medusa's chains in a clash of forces that made the ground tremble beneath our feet. Sparks flew, illuminating Medusa's face with a momentary glow as she resisted the attack with superhuman strength.
"Don't let your guard down!" Medusa shouted, her voice full of urgency but also fierce determination. I didn't need her to tell me that. Every fiber of my being was on high alert, my senses picking up every nuance of the battlefield.
Sound of metal colliding, a strong and clear resonance, followed by sparks crackling in the air.
Rin and Sakura advanced, their Servants close behind, ready to intercept any attack directed at them. The battlefield exploded in a series of quick and precise movements, a true spectacle of skill and power. Scáthach's attacks were like a storm — fast, relentless, each strike seemed destined to take down anyone who dared face her.
But Medusa, with supernatural grace, moved like water, flowing around Scáthach's attacks with a precision that was almost hypnotic. Her chains whirled, whipping through the air with a force that left deep grooves in the stone ground. It was as if she were an extension of the environment itself, a natural force in its purest form.
I moved to support Medusa, SĂdon responding to my command with a roar of energy that resonated across the field. My Servant attacked, his lance of light cutting through the air with a blinding glow, but Scáthach was prepared. She deflected the attack with a quick and elegant movement, her spear moving as if it were an extension of her own body.
Sound of an explosion of light, followed by a dull impact as the energy dissipates.
The sound of battles around us seemed to grow louder, mixing with the sound of our own fight, creating a cacophony that echoed through the mountains of the underworld. It was as if the environment itself was vibrating with the intensity of the confrontation.
Scáthach, with an ease that bordered on the supernatural, managed to create a breach in our defense. With a fluid movement, she disarmed Medusa, sending her chains flying away before advancing on me.
I felt time slow as she approached. Each beat of my heart seemed to echo like a drum, and for a brief moment, a wave of fear washed over me. But I couldn't retreat. Not now.
Sound of heavy breathing, time slowing down, followed by the muffled sound of one's own heartbeat.
I raised my blade, feeling SĂdon's strength flowing through me, and blocked Scáthach's strike at the last second. The force of the impact pushed me back, my feet dragging across the ground as I fought to keep my balance.
"She's stronger than I thought," I murmured, panting, my eyes locked on hers. Scáthach smiled, but it wasn't a cruel smile; it was the smile of someone who appreciated the challenge, who saw beauty in battle.
"You have potential," she said, her voice low, almost a whisper. "But you're far from ready."
With a quick movement, she knocked my blade aside, disarming me with unsettling ease. Before I could react, I felt the tip of her spear gently pressing against my chest. One move, one simple move, and I would be defeated.
Silence fell over the battlefield, the only sound being my heavy breathing. I looked at Scáthach, waiting for the final blow, but it never came. Instead, she lowered the spear, her eyes meeting mine with an intensity that made my heart skip a beat.
"You need to learn to trust in your power," she said, her voice soft but laden with authority. "Strength is not just a matter of skill, but of will. You have yet to claim this power as your own. And you still have a long way to go."
She stepped back, giving me a moment to catch my breath, and then turned to the rest of the group, her eyes analyzing each of us with cold precision.
"You have the potential to become great, but greatness is not achieved through power alone. It takes more than that. It requires determination, sacrifice, and an unwavering desire to grow."
Scáthach gave me one last look, and in that moment, I knew the training was far from over. She had tested us, challenged us, and though we had fought bravely, we were still only scratching the surface of our true potential.
As she walked away, accompanied by Rumix, I stood there, the weight of her words echoing in my mind. I knew she was right. The road ahead was long and full of challenges, but I was determined to walk it to the end.
I took a deep breath, feeling the fresh air fill my lungs, and prepared myself for what was to come. The journey had only just begun.
**
(Riser Phenex's POV)
I took a deep breath, absorbing the scene I had just witnessed. The air still vibrated with the residual energy of the confrontation, and the metallic smell of ozone lingered in the atmosphere. My eyes scanned the battlefield, carefully observing each participant as I mentally noted their strengths and weaknesses.
Illyasviel, still panting, had shown courage, but her hesitation was palpable. "Needs to trust herself more," I muttered, scribbling in my imaginary notebook.
Medusa, with her feline grace, had been impressive, but...
"Relies too much on agility. Needs to learn to counterattack," I noted mentally.
Rin and Sakura, the Tohsaka sisters, had fought in sync, but...
TAP TAP TAP
My fingers drummed on the side of my leg. "Lack individual initiative. Need to learn to separate strategically."
Seekvaira, with her time magic...
"Powerful, but slow in execution. Needs to speed up her spells."
I sighed, feeling the weight of responsibility on my shoulders. It was my turn now. I, Riser Phenex, could not afford to fail. Not after witnessing the raw potential of these girls.
WHOOSH! FWOOSH!
Flames danced around me, responding to my will. I stepped forward, feeling the familiar heat course through my veins.
"Riser," Scáthach's voice cut through the air like a sharp blade. "Are you ready?"
"I'm always ready, my dear instructor." Scáthach's eyes gleamed with a silent challenge.
"Then come," she said, her Gáe Bolg spear reflecting the light of my flames. "Show me what the super Phenex can do."
I didn't hesitate. With a battle cry, I launched myself forward, my body engulfed in a whirlwind of fire.
The flames danced around me, responding to my will as if they were extensions of my own body. I lunged at Scáthach, my right fist enveloped in a whirlwind of fire that illuminated the battlefield with an intense glow.
CRACK! BOOM!
The impact of my blow against Scáthach's spear reverberated through the air, shockwaves spreading in all directions. She had blocked my attack with millimeter precision, her eyes fixed on mine, filled with an intensity that would make anyone else retreat.
But I'm not just anyone. I'm Riser Phenex, and I don't back down from anything.
"Impressive, Riser," she murmured, a slight smile playing on her lips. "But it's still not enough."
With a fluid movement, she spun the spear, forcing me to jump back. I barely had time to land when she was already upon me again, her spear slicing through the air with a threatening whistle.
SWISH! SWISH!
I narrowly dodged, feeling the wind from the blade brush my face. My heart raced, a mix of adrenaline and excitement coursing through my veins. This was what I sought - a real challenge, someone who could push me to the limit.
"You're fast, Scáthach," I said, allowing myself a confident smile. "But let's see how you handle this!"
I focused, channeling my power. The air around me began to tremble with intense heat, and then...
FWOOSH! ROAR!
An explosion of flames erupted from my body, forming a fiery vortex that expanded in all directions. I saw Scáthach's eyes widen for a moment - ah, the sweet satisfaction of surprising someone so powerful!
But she wasn't known as the Queen of the Land of Shadows for nothing. With superhuman speed, she traced symbols in the air - runes, I realized with a mix of admiration and envy. A shield of bluish energy materialized in front of her, repelling my flames.
SIZZLE! HISS!
The clash between my fire and her runic magic created a cacophony of sounds, sparks flying everywhere. For a moment, we stood there, locked in a stalemate, neither of us willing to give in.
"Your flames are powerful, Riser," Scáthach spoke, her voice calm despite the evident effort on her face. "But true power comes from control, not just brute strength."
I gritted my teeth, irritated by the lesson in the middle of the battle. Who did she think she was to give me advice? I was Riser Phenex, after all!
But... a small part of me, the one that always sought improvement, couldn't help but notice the truth in her words. I watched, fascinated, as the runes she had conjured glowed with complex and elegant patterns. There was an efficiency there that my flames, as powerful as they were, did not possess.
CRACK! BOOM!
Our powers finally gave way, the resulting explosion throwing us both back. I landed gracefully, my feet sliding across the ground as I regained my balance. Scáthach quickly recovered as well, her posture as impeccable as ever.
We stood there, staring at each other for a long moment. I could feel the exhaustion beginning to weigh on my muscles, but I refused to show any sign of weakness. And, to my surprise and a certain pride, I saw that Scáthach also showed signs of exhaustion - subtle, true, but they were there.
"I think we can call this a draw, don't you?" she finally said, lowering her spear.
Part of me wanted to protest. I knew, deep down, that I was stronger than her. With my regeneration powers, I could continue fighting for much longer. But... there was something more important here.
"A fair draw," I agreed, allowing my flames to extinguish. "But don't think this is over, Scáthach. I still have much to prove."
She laughed, a surprisingly melodious sound coming from such a fierce warrior. "I wouldn't expect anything less from you, Riser. And you're right, this is far from over. There is much I can still teach you."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? And what will the great Scáthach teach me?"
Her eyes gleamed with ancient knowledge. "The Primordial Runes, Riser. The oldest and most powerful magic that exists. Imagine combining that with your flames..."
I felt a shiver of excitement run down my spine. The Primordial Runes... I had heard stories, legends about their power. And now, the chance to learn them...
"Very well, Scáthach," I said, allowing myself a genuine smile. "You have my attention. When do we start?"
She smiled back, a smile that promised challenges and discoveries. "Right now, if you're ready."
