Chapter 158: At the limit
Covered in dozens of thin cuts and cornered by Vesta's incredible speed, Davi was forced to risk everything by activating his <Limit Break> and finally managed to hit Vesta with everything he had.
As the girl flew away, Davi coughed up blood from having pushed his body too far. Left with no choice, he decided which Harem member he would take 100% of their powers from.
His first thought was naturally Haru as she was the strongest of them, or perhaps Morrigan, but he couldn't deny how broken Sophia's skill set was.
In terms of status, she was behind, but he made his choice. Then, at that moment, the blonde's profile appeared before his eyes for a brief moment:
Name: Sophia Belfort
Class: Divine healer Lvl 110
Skills:
Normal Healing Lvl 140
Mana manipulation Lvl 100
Advanced healing Lvl 101
Revive Lvl max
Divine shield Lvl 60
Blessing Lvl 40
Mana absorption Lvl 51
Regeneration Lvl 89
Stats amplifier Lvl 30
Divine realm Lvl 4
Stats:
Strength: 150
Defence: 200
Speed: 200
Stamina: 120
Intelligence: 1500
In particular, her near-infinite mana supply would be truly useful. Davi immediately activated <Regeneration> and used <Advanced Healing> on himself to ensure his body continued to function properly.
As long as he continued using the blonde's broken abilities to regenerate, he was likely able to hold out for much longer in this fight.
Vesta, having been sent flying by Davi's desperate <Limit Break> strike, landed lightly on her feet, skidding a few meters before digging her heels in.
Her snow-white hair, usually so pristine, was a wild halo around her face, and a thin trickle of blood ran from the corner of her mouth.
Her blue eyes, however, no longer just held anger. A slow smile, one she couldn't contain, spread across her face, and a spark of fierce desire ignited in her gaze.
It was the first time she'd had a chance to enjoy a real fight in a very long time.
She launched herself forward in a blur of motion, faster than Davi had anticipated, almost too fast for his enhanced senses to follow.
Davi met her charge, his sword a silver arc in the air. He parried a lightning-fast kick aimed at his head, the impact sending a jolt up his arm, and then twisted, bringing his blade around in a wide sweep.
Vesta ducked under it, her cat-like ears twitching, and her claws raked across his arm. The skin parted, a fresh line of red appearing.
The wound didn't slow Davi down for even a second, he charged forward, slicing through his opponent's thigh with a swift, precise swing of his sword.
The dance of death began in earnest. Vesta was a whirlwind of motion, her powerful legs delivering bone-jarring kicks that Davi deflected with his sword or dodged by a hair's breadth.
He, in turn, pressed his attacks with the sword, its keen edge forcing Vesta to weave and dodge, her incredible speed her only defense.
He aimed for her limbs, her torso, anywhere he could land a hit, and occasionally, his blade would connect, leaving a thin cut on her arm or a shallow slice across her thigh.
But just like him, Vesta seemed to shrug off the damage, her own innate resilience and her <regeneration> ability allowing her to recover almost as quickly.
The rhythm of the fight became a blur of strikes and parries, kicks and slashes.
"That's really good!" Vesta screamed, her expression wild with excitement, she seemed almost euphoric, completely immersed in the thrill of battle.
Vesta's movements grew more erratic, more feral. Her kicks gained more force, her claws became more relentless.
She was being pushed, truly pushed, for the first time in a long time.
But Davi couldn't allow this battle of attrition to drag on for long, especially when Vesta seemed to be evolving by the minute.
Because of that, he clenched his teeth and activated <Stats Amplification>, his eyes lighting up with a yellowish glow.
At the same time, he began channeling <Supernova> he needed an ability powerful enough to defeat that insane woman, no matter the cost.
Then he brandished his sword and charged toward Vesta, who immediately dodged with an exaggerated acrobatic twist.
"You're even faster now," she admitted, genuinely impressed.
Her eyes sparkled with hunger for the fight, and the mana around her trembled violently. In that instant, for the first time in a millennia, she leveled up.
The power inside her exploded, and her <warrior soul> ability activated on its own.
She moved like lightning.
In one fluid motion, she closed the distance and slashed with her clawed hand. Davi tried to block, but it was too late, her strike tore through his defense and cleaved off his left arm at the bicep, blood spraying into the air.
But even with the pain and the loss, Davi didn't stop. Gritting his teeth, he spun on his heel and landed a devastating counterblow: a perfect kick to her knee, bending it backward with a sickening crack and completely destroying her leg.
Then, spinning with flawless precision, he slashed across her torso with his sword. The blade cutting deep into her chest, slicing through flesh and cracking ribs, forcing her to stagger back with a snarl of pain.
"This is it," he growled, his remaining hand rising as searing heat surged in his palm.
Without hesitation, he drove his foot into her again, kicking her with all his strength and sending her crashing into the arena wall.
He hoped that would finally be enough to make her stay down.
But she didn't.
Despite the shattered leg, the gashed chest, and the blood dripping from her mouth, Vesta refused to surrender.
She was still trying to stand, but now, she was too injured to dodge what was coming next.
A blinding core of energy formed in the palm of his hand glowing like a miniature sun in his grasp. The <Supernova> was fully charged.
He launched it with a roar, the massive blast tearing through the air like a falling star, racing toward Vesta with apocalyptic force.
For a split second, time seemed to freeze, and then her instincts screamed louder than the pain or the exhaustion.
A violent surge of mana erupted from her feet as she kicked off the wall with her intact leg, throwing herself to the side in a desperate, ragged motion.
She managed to avoid total annihilation… but just barely.
The Supernova grazed her left side, and in that instant, fire consumed her. The shockwave hurled her across the arena like a ragdoll, her body crashing and rolling until she finally slammed into the ground.
Smoke rose from her skin. The entire left side of her body was scorched, her flesh blackened and blistered.
Her breathing was shallow, erratic, it was even hard to believe she was still alive.
She tried to stand… but her leg gave out.
Her vision blurred. The heat, the pain, the blood loss. She almost lost consciousness right there on the spot, her fingers twitching in the dust as the edges of her world flickered into darkness.
And yet, even broken and half-burned, she refused to yield.
Her eyes, dim but defiant, still searched for Davi.
That girl is crazy… Davi thought to himself.
