Chapter 55: Wasn't My Horde Enough?
Dante was covered in blood as he walked through the streets of Blackharbor. His wounds still linger, but he ignores them now. He made his way toward the harbor, where he was hoping Amara the Dark Elf was there to ferry him to Dawnfen. When he arrived at the docks, a smile crept across his face.
''Looks like she didn't lie,'' he muttered.
There was a massive ship sitting in the harbor, guarded by a dozen Dark Elves, but the undead ignored them, thanks to hunting the humans. When Dante approached the plank, the sailors tried to stop him. That's when Luna appeared and went to strike the man until she stopped as she heard his voice. ''Don't kill him, he's one of the men sailing us to the other continents.''
The brown-skinned woman glanced at him. Blood covered her fists. She calmed down and nodded. ''Sorry about that, master. Bloodlust overtook me thanks to all the death happening.''
When the Dark Elf man heard this, his grey skin paled just as a velvety voice hit his ears. ''Looks like you made it, Death. Where are the other two? And who is this new beauty beside you?''
''Enough with the questions,'' he snapped. ''It doesn't matter anymore. Can you still take me to Dawnfen?''
''If we leave today, yes,'' Amara answered. ''We can beat the storm that's about to hit Nemaorth. I'll be able to outrun it.''
''No you won't,'' Luna suddenly said. ''The sea is a dangerous realm, I've watched massive fleets sink to the bottom.''
The Dark Elf beauty turned to the wolf, her eyebrow arched. ''Yes, but I am the best captain this side of Eldoria. All the kingdoms hunt me but yet they haven't caught me? Have they?''
Amara spun on her heels, glancing back at Dante. ''Meet here by sunset, handsome. We'll be leaving then. Been here a few days waiting for you.''
''Okay,'' he answered.
Dante turned to a group of Wendigos who were busy eating some people and ordered. ''Throw the bodies into the Domain and go steal all the wealth from this city. We have half a day to loot everything.''
When Luna heard this, she giggled. ''Always thinking about gold, wasn't my horde enough?''
''More than enough actually,'' he replied. ''I just don't want the Darkmoore Kingdom to have it when they eventually take back part of the city.''
''What's the point of us doing this?''
Dante pointed his hand at a group of corpses and spoke. ''Arise.''
Seconds later, the dead human began turning into Death Ghouls, springing up like jack-in-the-boxes before sprinting off to hunt. When the older woman saw this, her blue eyes widened in horror as she muttered. ''You can turn them into normal undead?''
''They are Death Ghouls, stronger than the normal ones thanks to my magic,'' he answered.
Following that, Dante let out a yawn and looked around only to spot a fancy-looking in just outside the port. He made his way there, and Luna trailed behind. ''Why are we coming here? Why not the treehouse in the Domain?''
''It smells rotten in there,'' he answered, stepping inside the empty building.
Blood-stained covered most things as random limbs lay on the floor. Dante trudged upstairs only to reach the best room, which was the cleanest among the ones he'd seen. Once he reached the bed, he collapsed down, letting out a happy sigh as the older woman joined him, laying her head on his shoulder.
Moments later, Dante fell asleep as screams echoed through Blackharbor, and fires burnt down its once pristine buildings. About a thousand surviving humans held up in the City Lords caste but were besieged by the Death Giants that rammed the gate like a siege machine, the Ghouls scaled the wall and slashed at the soldiers above.
All this was happening while he and Luna were fast asleep, but by the time the undead were pushed back for the last time, the human mages destroyed many. He was woken up by the Death Lions' deep voice echoing in his mind. 'Master, we're having problems getting past the human mages; they are destroying many Zombies and Ghouls.'
When Dante heard this, he sighed before pulling up the Death Camp total and other information.
[Death Camp Capacity: 6000/6000]
[Upgrade Capacity by 1000: 500 Death Points]
He spent seven thousand points to increase the capacity to 20,000 so he could convert more dead into monsters he could use. Dante felt the power increase, and three notifications popped up.
[Create 200 Feeders from the dead humans]
[Create 200 Twitchers from the dead humans]
[Create 1 Death Brute from 1000 dead humans]
When Dante saw the last one, his wicked smile grew wider, but that would have to wait as he replied to the Death Lion. 'I'll pull the undead, I have a few more monsters to try out.'
Following that, they left the inn when he woke up the sleeping wolf woman. The duo was now walking down a quiet main street that looked like it came straight from a survival horror novel. Blood covered the ground, shop windows were broken, and dead humans were slumped over stuff.
The scene didn't bother Dante as he passed by a family that was crushed by the Death Trolls or some other monster. Luna glanced around, noticing the slaughter that was unfolding as survivors were being found all over the city. The older woman grabbed his arm, asking. ''How many humans are left?''
''A few thousand,'' he revealed, an evil spark blazed in his red eyes. ''They're being located by the Wendigos.''
When saying that, Raegar remembered the flying monster she had mentioned and questioned. ''What happened to the second creatures you brought up?''
''It fled from the Death Gorgon, but it doesn't matter because it was B Rank and wouldn't grow any stronger,'' Luna explained.
''Alright, now let's go deal with the survivors,'' Dante said before making his way toward the City Lords' castle.
He felt the monsters filling up the Death Camp until the Domain was used; once most bodies were inside, more notifications popped up.
[250,000 human bodies waiting to be used]
[Undead list you can utilize on your adventure - Will expand when you grow even stronger, my Chosen, have fun!]
[Rotlings]
[Creepers]
[Zombies]
[Ghouls]
[Feeders]
[Brutes]
[Twitchers]
When Dante's eyes gleamed with twisted curiosity, he summoned a Brute, eager to witness its grotesque nature. As his death magic surged uncontrollably, they stepped into one of the city's desolate squares. Luna recoiled as a portal tore open the air, and something unspeakable emerged.
[Death Brute - A Rank]
It was a towering abomination, a monstrous colossus of writhing muscle and sinew, looming over ten feet tall. Its body was a nightmarish fusion of human bodies, warped and melded into a hulking humanoid that pulsed with unholy strength that radiated Death Magic thanks to being created by him.
Dante noticed the creature's crimson skin crawled as though alive, veins throbbing beneath it'd festering surface that oozed with a sickly sheen, sending shivers of dread through his core. Its gaze locked onto the older woman, and it unleashed a guttural, bone-rattling growl that seemed to claw at the air itself before something cut it short.
''Oi! Don't be doing that!'' He ordered. ''She's mine, not food! There's the food!''
Dante pointed at the City Lords' castle gate that stood at the end of the road. When the Death Brute saw this, its dead eyes lit up as he continued talking. ''Destroy that and eat any humans you find. I'm still gathering more bodies.''
Following his words, the walking nightmare started sprinting toward the City Lord's gate, causing the ground to shake. He was fascinated as the Brute turned to its side so it could ram the fortification, and when it hit, a loud boom echoed out as the metal was torn open at the cost of its life.
Without hesitation, Dante unleashed a horde of Feeders, his death magic spiraling into a frenzied crescendo. When they materialized, a chill gripped him. These humanoid horrors, standing six feet tall, were skeletal monstrosities, their parchment-thin skin stretched taut over jagged bones, as if life itself had been sucked dry.
Their claws, dripping with a viscous, black ichor. Sunken, hollow eyes burned with a predatory hunger, and their gaping mouths revealed rows of needle-like teeth, twisting their emaciated faces into a vision of pure terror. Luna stiffened at the sight as the creatures rushed toward the castle.
Rotlings, Zombies, and Ghouls followed behind as the wolf woman finally spoke. ''What the fuck are you creating, master? These things are different compared to the Necromancers we used to fight.''
''Because they're different,'' he responded. ''My Death Magic comes from the Goddess, who is in control of death, which is just as important as life, and she wields untold powers. Now I'm getting a taste of it thanks to this system.''
When Luna saw the happiness on his face, she calmed down just as the Feeders and other monsters reached the humans. Horror-filled screams echoed out, signalling the downfall of Blackharbor.
