Chapter 2: Hunting
"Sure enough, when I first arrived in this world, this chip came with me!"
Aoki's voice was calm, but his mind raced with excitement. In his previous life, this chip had been the cornerstone of his rise to near-Elite Trainer status. It was no exaggeration to say that without it, his accomplishments would have been impossible.
Back then, the chip had activated by accident. He had been far from prepared, and even with its capabilities, catching up to others had been a Herculean task. But now, things were different.
"Chip, scan!" he commanded, trying to suppress the surge of anticipation in his chest as he glanced at the Dark Crow perched nearby.
Almost instantly, a crisp sound rang out:
"Drip!"
Before him, a vivid three-dimensional image materialized, and detailed data flooded his vision:

Tutor Moves:
Snatch: (Dark, Status, steals the effect of the opponent's next move) Tailwind: (Flying, Status, boosts the team's Speed for 4 turns)
As Aoki absorbed the data, his eyes gleamed with newfound determination.
Detailed stats! Unlike in his previous life, where the chip had started as a blank slate, requiring painstaking research to unlock such intricate information, this time it came fully equipped. Aoki remembered the lengths he had gone to—hacking Rocket databases, bypassing security protocols, and even accessing parts of the Pokémon Alliance database—all to compile the knowledge stored in this chip.
As a civilian trainer, Aoki had learned that knowledge was power. Only through precise understanding could he harness his Pokémon's potential to the fullest. And now, he held a significant advantage.
The green indicator next to the Dark Crow's name signified its talent level. In this world, talent was categorized as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple—green being a rare and solid mid-tier qualification. Wild Pokémon were typically red or orange, and a yellow-tier Pokémon was already highly sought after. For the Rockets to assign green-tier Pokémon during recruitment was almost unheard of.
In his past life, Aoki had barely survived the trial island, relying solely on his Dark Crow's talents. His abilities as a trainer hardly played a factor. But this time...
Taking a deep breath, Aoki steadied himself.
"This time," he vowed silently, "I i am not staying weak! Not again. Weakness is a crime!"
The trial island's sole rule was clear: the strong survive and the weak perish. If he wanted to emerge victorious, his first priority was to build up the strength of his Dark Crow.
Normal Dark Crows grew to about half a meter tall, but his was noticeably stunted at around forty centimeters. Restoring its health and vitality would be critical to unlocking its full potential.
"Let's go, Dark Crow! Time to find some food." Aoki motioned for the bird to perch on his shoulder.
The Dark Crow hesitated briefly, eyeing its trainer. Aoki, malnourished from years of hardship, didn't resemble a typical fifteen-year-old boy. But after a moment, the bird flapped its wings and landed on his shoulder.
The added weight pressed into Aoki's frail body, leaving deeper footprints in the sand as he trudged into the forest.
Field survival was second nature to Aoki, having learned it the hard way in his previous life. He knew which berries were safe to eat, which were poisonous, and which could restore stamina or cure ailments.
He handed a few ripe, orange-colored berries to the Dark Crow and bit into a slightly green, sour one himself. The sharp juice stung his mouth, but he chewed slowly and swallowed. In the wild, such fruits were the most accessible way to regain energy, even if they were unpleasant to eat.
"Ga!" The Dark Crow chirped after finishing its meal, glancing at the sour fruit in Aoki's hands. A flicker of warmth crossed its eyes—an unfamiliar feeling. Though they had only met a day ago, Aoki had given the best food to the bird while taking the less desirable ones for himself.
"This is all we have for now. I know you prefer meat, but this will have to do." Aoki's voice carried a note of apology.
"Ga..." The Dark Crow gently nudged Aoki's cheek with its beak, signaling that it understood.
Smiling faintly, Aoki felt a bond forming—a connection he hadn't experienced in his previous life. Slowly, he let that emotion seep into his heart, vowing to nurture it.
Walking deeper into the forest, Aoki's keen eyes scanned his surroundings. Finally, he stopped in front of a dense bush. Based on his experience, small animals or even Pokémon often hid in such places.
Sure enough, with a sudden rustle, a gray hare darted out of the bushes.
"It seems we've found tonight's dinner," Aoki muttered, a sly grin forming. "Dark Crow, Peck!"
The Dark Crow launched itself without hesitation, delivering a precise blow with its beak. The hare collapsed instantly, unable to withstand the attack.
But before they could celebrate, a flash of purple streaked across the ground, snatching the hare's lifeless body.
Aoki's smile faded as his eyes narrowed. "Looks like we have company."
